I saw ROTS in two different theaters, so I presume two different prints. It looked like film. Only saw AOTC once, and it looked fuzzy and washed out to me, like a bad video to film transfer. Maybe they had poor quality control on the prints made in 2002?

I've seen bad 16mm(?) film transfers of tv shows originally shot on video, so I do have a frame of reference.

Are you sure it's the original version? The differences can be subtle if you haven't seen both cuts.

Time and technology marches on. One one of the ROTS commentaries, there is mention of some doubt at ILM that they could plug in the Episode One model of Boss Nass into the software they were using at the time. That's only about a six year span.

Data files can get lost or even wiped. Just ask Pixar. ;)

It's possible In The Beginning was made as a sort of cliff's notes on the show for the benefit of new viewers once the show moved to TNT?

It's a darn shame the original broadcast version of the pilot hasn't been released on DVD. I think there was talk of preserving the Japanese LD of it that didn't go anywhere.

It would be a miracle if they saved all the files for the effects after all these years.

Maybe they can just scan a unused film print of those two? ROTS looked pretty good on 35mm. AOTC not so much.

Not releasing the OOT after all the overtures they've been making to the "old school" fans would be a slap in the face, and generate bad press.

There's more awareness of the issue now than when Lucas could evade the question, or have his spin doctors brush it off.

They did mention using a special lens for the shot. It took a couple tries to get the shot as fog would roll in before sunset.

I've pretty much pinpointed the site, based on which direction they had to shoot in face the sun. All the development in the area hasn't affected the breakwater, although it may have had more rocks added since 1970.

It's a matter of finding someone to go out there with me at this point, and be there around sunset. The only way to get there is a beach road that isn't always open to traffic, (may be seasonal) and it's a bit of a walk if it's closed. Hard to be incognito lugging a camera tripod.

That would be a masterstroke, so long as the media doesn't spot fans leaving before the movie starts. ;)

 Weird, I didn't get the impression they were very close at all. I thought it was Quill's mother dying that had brought them together, (since somebody had to look after Peter) along with whoever all those other people were in the hospital room. Presumably all relatives.

I just think it's bit of a tease to tell us these scenes exist, and then tell us they aren't going to be included. Not like there isn't room on the disc for this stuff.

Of course, there will probably be ten minutes of promos and crap unrelated to the actual movie at the beginning, that we have to manually skip over either way.
