When has bad child acting ever made George cut a scene? ;)

I believe the scene humanizes SEN a bit more than George may have wanted. Without it, SEN is more of a selfish person who wants THX for his new roommate, (his old roomate's death might even be a tad suspicious) and has the computer skills to get what he wants.

Either version suggests this society pretty much raises kids via machines, and adults don't interact with them much.

I was under the assumption that SEN was trying to press THX into bunking up partially using the fact that his roommate died due to THX's negligence/error. I figured he was that pile of waste being carted out of the disaster area on the monitor.

I have yet to actually watch the bluray version of the long SEN/THX conversation about roommates. It looks to be quite different.

Interesting idea, but I don't think that was the area THX worked in. Isn't there a voiceover telling the workers how they are ahead of the other sector in having less fatalities?

So I take it the majority of the differences are rearrangement of scenes, and not added or deleted footage?

I'm not familiar with THX, I'm mainly curious and from a preservation standpoint.

Between 1971 and 1978 yes, it would seem so. And those changes all (if I recall) occur in the second half of the film, after the arrest. The exception (footage not present at all in the 1978 cut) being about 30 seconds of the SEN + kids scene, which was almost certainly removed due to bad child acting and really bad voice dubs.

I'll have my "Unspecialized" reconstruction on spleen sometime tonight if anyone is interested. It would be up, but my computer crashed mysteriously during the encode.

When I enter "brooke shields young" in Google Images, why the hell do photos of her as a prepubescent girl -- naked and in heavy makeup -- show up in the results? God, why do those photos even exist?

It's because of one of her early films, (in which she played a prostitute) which could never get made in Hollywood today.

The Shining - 35mm print opportunity (a WIP)
Time

Poita has found a faded original 1980 release print. Besides my obsession with the film, I thought it might be useful for the original mono soundtrack, and seeing the full aperture of the film.

I’ve read an account in a Kubrick fan group from someone who saw a 35mm screening that was unmatted. Besides the infamous helicopter shadow, microphones and other film gear can be allegedly seen. More stuff for the conspiracy theory crowd to chew on. 😉

The asking price is $280 plus shipping. (The seller is in the U.S.) Anyone interested in helping out in getting this? The only thing holding me back at the moment is the latest round of home improvements I need to pay for this summer.

I seriously doubt the legendary lost ending is there, but I can dream!

Here's one I've not seen before. A test disc to calibrate a theater for The Phantom Menace.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DTS-THX-TEST-DISC-FOR-STAR-WARS-EPISODE-1-PHANTOM-MENACE-35mm-FILM-MEMORABILIA-/141681749984

As far as I know, I do have a copy of this, from a theater guy I know.

If Threepio says more than "left channel, right channel" etc., it could be of use in fan edits.

Easiest way would be to output the Bluray via composite video and capture that, or run the composite video into an old VCR and record it, then capture *that*.

The 'hardware' downgrading will do most of the work for you.

That's a brilliant idea.

I read somewhere that all the monitor displays in the recent game Alien: Isolation were given that 1979 look via a similar technique. :)

Is there a computer doctor in the house?
Time

Thanks for the reply!

I tried that several days ago, it didn't work. I uninstalled my anti virus, (which lately has seemed to be getting bloated and slowing the system down) and things finally slowly corrected themselves last night. Installed the anti virus I use at home, which does the job with a minimum of fuss. :)

Windows 7 did decide to go update happy, and downloaded all the optional stuff as well, but I'm not complaining. ;)
