I remember the tabloid press trying to paint a picture of Mayhew and other masked actors in the original film somehow getting screwed over by not getting a chunk of the movie’s success, but Peter simply went back to his day job working at a hospital when production was over. He had only done Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger prior to Star Wars. I don’t think he ever said a bad word about Star Wars or anyone associated with it.

I haven’t been able to find a video of it online, but there’s a promo airing on Turner Classic Movies for the upcoming TCM/Bonhams movie memorabilia auction featuring an original ESB Darth Vader costume. The actor who wore the suit for promotional appearances back in the day tells a great story about the one and only time he ever broke character in costume. 😃
