Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *

In this instance there’s no story. Abrams planted his ‘mystery boxes’ for the sheer heck of it and then left Rian to do whatever the hell he wanted (which he clearly did). By his own admission JJ went into episode 9 thinking “well, I’d better come up with a story…”

I’m not saying it won’t work - I’m really hoping it will - but the fact that these people didn’t think to at least write some kind of overall plot absolutely baffles me…

If you’d done your homework you would know that there has been a story/overarching plot that has been planned. However they have given each film the chance to change things for the sake of creative freedom. This is common knowledge idk where you get your facts. Look up interviews with Adam Driver and “Antichrist” Kennedy.

Okay, let’s not give anyone at Lucasfilm provocative nicknames. That doesn’t help at all.

The only possibility I think would be to have found a film back up or transfer copy to perhaps 16mm or something. They may have made ones for smaller or foreign markets in the case of reruns.

But I severely doubt even that.

Having seen tv shows that were shot on NTSC video transferred to film for airing in South America, I can vouch that they looked terrible.
There was a scammer who advertised an alleged HS film reel on Ebay about a decade ago. Someone here unfortunately won the auction. I never did find out if they got their money back.

Bit of a longshot, but has anybody got a collection of laserdisc audio rips of the original Star Trek TV series? As I understand it, the mono audio on the bluray sets has some changes here and there. I’d love to have a complete set of the original mixes (synced or unsynced) from the laserdiscs. Cheers! 😃

There has been occasional discussion on the subject here and elsewhere. The best source would be the Japanese TOS season box sets, as they are the only releases that have digital audio. The stumbling block is they are usually expensive as heck. The domestic versions are analog only, and AFAIK don’t even have CX noise reduction. If any studio was wildly inconsistent with it’s use of digital audio and CX, it was Paramount.

Cheers for your reply. Sounds like I’ll be sticking to the blurays then realistically, unless anybody happens to post that some/all of the discs are available with soundtracks already ripped. Frustrating that some of the bluray tracks aren’t 100% accurate. This is one of those ‘ignorance is bliss’ things - I wish I hadn’t read about the mono bluray track complaints. I need to build a device to slingshot around the sun & go back to a period in time before I’d read that! 😉

Some more modestly priced LD sets are on sale on Ebay at the moment. The entire series could be bought for around $300 at this point.

Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge (Disney Theme Park)
Time

I’ve seen video of Artoo hanging out somewhere in GE, so I take such reviews with a grain of salt. If they had made an exact replica of Mos Eisely, the aesthetic complaints would likely be the same. Most places in the saga aren’t really nice places to live in and there’s a lot of rusted out abandoned stuff on Tatooine last time I checked.
Until Rebels, no original elements of Star Tours ever appeared on screen either.

And what SW fan doesn’t want to try blue milk???

And since when does men’s magazine Esquire review theme parks? I didn’t even know they were still around.

I need to see that now. It sounds like the old reverse the film trick, the best example of which in Star Wars is the shot of the Tusken Raider holding his Gaffi stick over his head after attacking Luke.

And for those of you who need to find a shot from any of the films, https://starwarsscreencaps.com/ is a great resource.

Do you think the Sarlacc monster Force sensitive?

If we’re only relying on info from ROTJ and disregarding anything else that’s “canon”, I think it’s much more likely that what is said about the Sarlacc in the film is mostly false, comprised of legend and rumor. It’s not like there’s any reason to open it up and actually see how long it takes to be digested, so why not hype it up a bit? Surely it would make watching an execution-by-Sarlacc much more entertaining…

Watching others suffer seems to be Jabba’s favorite pastime, so why not turn it up to 11?

Has anyone ripped and synced The Shining’s original mono yet? It looks like it’s not gonna be on the new 4k (surprise surprise) and I’m hoping someone’s done it already.

Someone at fanres is supposed to be working on that. I sadly never bought the Laserdisc back in the day, because I thought a widescreen remaster would be announced the moment I did. Didn’t realize the movie was open matte back then. The original 1999 DVD release has the mono, but obviously the LD PCM would be the best source.

Great idea for a thread, Booman!

Those guys are officially called spacetroopers and have had action figures in recent years. I’ve seen behind the scenes photos of them being filmed, (back in the states just like the Cantina inserts) and the backpacks and airhoses were pretty much cobbled together as they were never going to be seen in closeup. (My Google Fu is failing me tonight, but the pics are out there.) The hoses just tuck in under the helmet. One of them was played by Joe Johnston.

Damn, I guess I still have a lot to learn. At least I managed to find that BTS shot you mentioned though! I did some more digging and found out that one of the cylindrical parts on the backpack also appears on the Death Star surface, which totally proves the “cobbled together” idea. I guess the person tasked with making the backpacks just saw that part sitting in the shop and said “eh, that looks good enough”.

Also while we’re on the topic of Mon Calamari…

This clueless background guy doesn’t get nearly enough recognition!

LOL! I think he was working on his dance moves for the Captain Eo audition.

Given the often breakneck pace of production, maybe that was the first time Caroline Blakiston really saw Ackbar fully working? Keep in mind she’s also seeing puppeteer Tim Rose squatting down out of sight below. Having dabbled in puppetry, I’ve know some people are weirded out by seeing you stick your arm up a creature’s backside! 😉
