A digital wrinkle on an old hoodwink. How many quotes have you seen on a ad, or on a video box from some critic you’ve never heard of? I’m suspicious of those ads that use people coming out of the theater singing the praises of a film myself.

Being a savvy consumer is the best defense.

Sony got caught having used a fake movie critic to generate positive reviews back in 2000.

It’s believed by some the IMDB shut down it’s message boards to appease the studios.

The ABC cut of TSFS was an edited for tv massacre. Uhura’s scene with Mr. Adventure in the transporter room was sliced to the bone, as were other character moments that make the film. ABC would hardly air extra footage after cramming it into a two hour timeslot with commericals.

You’re forgetting the biggest crime, in the very beginning. Cut from Spock’s casket on Genesis and the main titles straight to the Klingon freighter scene, omitting the entire opening monologue by Kirk during the Enterprise’s limp home.

Well, it has been over 30 years since I saw that broadcast. 😉
Only reason it sticks in my mind at all is Starlog magazine commented on it at the time.

I hope somebody is studying this level of detachment from reality. It’s fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

Did Fox really have the power to have old DVD stock pulled from store shelves ahead of the first Blu Ray release? I did notice they suddenly vanished in at least one local store at the time, but can’t discount the possibility someone was buying them up to flip on Ebay.

A lot of sealed fullscreen copies turn up for sale with the UPC slashed and covered by a sticker, indicating they were given away to some charity.

ENEMY MINE (1985)

Finally was able to get a hold of a copy of this on blu-ray. Absolutely wonderful film! Everything came together just right for it. Outstanding writing, directing and performances from everyone involved. The transfer on this blu-ray is fantastic, sharp clear picture and good color. All of the effects by ILM still hold up very well. It’s such a shame that this film was never appreciated in its time and is mostly forgotten today. If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it!

I’d pay money to see footage from the original shoot with the first director, (who was fired) and the original Drac makeup. Lou Gossett Jr. said in an old Starlog interview it looked like an “Egyptian lizard”, but AFAIK, no photos have ever seen the light of day.

Historian Dan Snow has the best response to Fox News’ claim that London is ‘defeated and demoralised’:-

Fox said that?! Whose side are they on? Good thing they weren’t around during the Blitz!

It was Katie Hopkins, who is (if you don’t know) a kind of British Ann Coulter-wannabe. Except unlike with Coulter who has at least some limited support in her Country (as far as I’m aware), every last person in Britain hates Hopkins’ guts with a deep and abiding passion.

Dan Snow’s video and his other twitter responses to her ignorance are very funny but it’s best to just ignore people like her because offending nice people is how she makes a living.

So, another repulsive creature no man would touch, even if it meant saving the entire human race from extinction? Got it. 😉

Eh, if I’m being honest I’m sure I won’t stay gone, but I do think I need a break. It seems that the board is becoming more about hating most of Star Wars than liking any of it.

The name of the board is Original Trilogy. OT = 3 movies. That means 5/8 movies are not OT movies, which is more than half, and would constitute most.

Out of 8 movies that have been made, only 2 and half of them are any good. Eventually, there will be 15 or 20 Star Wars movies or more and they will almost all be terrible. Enjoy.

It’s not “Hate everything that isn’t the OT” either.

15 or 20 movies? Well, job security for you. 😉

Unless you can track down someone involved with the actual filming, or find some outtakes, it’s impossible to know for sure either way. It’s easy to believe a non American film crew would have little care for the fate of cute fuzzy animals.

There are scenes in the original 1963 The Incredible Journey where I wonder how the dogs (and cat) weren’t in real danger. There are stunts even in the original 1974 Benji movie that probably wouldn’t be allowed today.
