Last year for Christmas I gave my then 2.5 year old (now 3.5 year old) an AT-AT. Note the clever wrapping job above. (Don’t note the poor focus of the photo). Since then, he’s lovingly referred to it as his ‘robot puppy’ and he plays with it on a fairly regular basis. It was the one toy he took with him to our Thanksgiving party.

This weekend we watched Ady’s ESB Theatrical Reconstruction (which was awesome!) and I was really excited about him seeing his robot puppy larger than life on the big screen. When they finally appeared, the other kids got really excited for him and started yelling. At first he was silent as he watched it in awe… then he jumped up and down and cheered for the robot puppies… and then the rebels brought down the first one.

He burst into tears.

He was quite upset. A lot of things can make a 3.5 year old upset, so at first I wasn’t sure what had him twisted up. But through the sobs, he told us that he didn’t like them hurting the robot puppies and it made him sad. My oldest tried to explain to him that the robot puppies were the bad guys… but that didn’t help.

Not one bit.

It was kind of awesome.

Watched ESB:R with the fam this weekend. My now 8 year old was still really sad about the death of the Robot Puppies. For the remainder of the flick, he badmouthed Luke, called him a puppy killer, and otherwise cheered on his failures.

Great kid! Either I’m going to spank him or I’m beginning to like him!

Have the AT-AT’s called Robot Puppies. They growl and bark as they attack the rebels, and they Yipe! when brought down.

Info: Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan - ABC cut
Time

Funny this gets bumped as I was backing up my DVD-R of my original recording. Weird the DVD-R has gone bad yet my DVD-RW still plays fine. The DVD-R was still readable by my PC drive though.

sardonyx, if you can’t find it online somewhere shoot me a PM, and I’ll see about sending you a copy. I would love to see a hybrid restoration finally happen with this.

Too bad the version that aired on ThisTv hasn’t popped up on any other channel.

An awful lot of great, historical stuff was built by slaves. Rome, the pyramids, etc. And what about the working conditions of people who built the Golden Gate bridge? Of course we should remember all of that, but I’m not sure that such examples continue to taint us somehow. Perhaps as symbolism, I’d buy that. But I don’t think I’m Euro-privileged when I walk on the pyramids… my privileges as a white male in America are much more concrete than that and have vanishingly little to do with the fact that slaves built the pyramids.

Actually slaves building the pyramids is a misconception created by the ancient Greeks that’s been reinforced by the movies.

As for the White House, the things that have happened there since it was built ought to balance out the negatives. Seriously, was anyone even harping on this before Obama? The ugly comments I saw on social media about the restoration work being done on the mansion speak volumes.

Dealing with People Selling Fan Projects
Time

JohnStewart said:

You people crack me up. You F* around with copyrighted material then you cry when you see people selling the s*! Just stop, ok you make yourselves look stupid. Maybe if you made the “free” versions easier to get the masses out there would not resort to paying for them. Not to mention it might not be wise to keep brining undo attention to this site as well. I had no problem getting these but to your average non computer person its a pretty difficult task.

“You people”? That’s odd coming from someone who’s been on the site for several years and was recently praising Harmy.

I wouldn’t mind if someone was only charging for the material costs of making a copy. MST3K fans have done this for years with the unreleased episodes. And tape traders since before the internets only asked you send them a blank tape or something they were looking for in return. But that guy on Ebay cleared around 4k in a month doing this. Not cool.

I haven’t downloaded that much in the way of projects, since the people I’ve partnered with are good about mailing me a copy, but it’s a lot easier now than 16 years ago when I was trying to download a movie off of usenet. Finding that one missing file that didn’t propagate to the newsserver you were on was sheer joy.

If you have suggestions as to how to make projects easier for the computer novices out there to find, by all means fire away. But a friendlier attitude might be nice too.

HAGÅTÑA, Guam — If there’s one thing that Guam does not have to worry about while the tiny island is in the nuclear cross hairs of North Korea, it’s tourism, President Trump told the island’s governor in a phone call made public on Saturday.

The threat by North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong-un, to create “an enveloping fire” around the tiny United States territory in the Western Pacific will boost Guam tourism “tenfold,” Mr. Trump said in the recorded conversation with Gov. Eddie Calvo.

The recording was put on the Republican governor’s Facebook page and other social media accounts.

Mr. Trump said: “I have to tell you, you have become extremely famous all over the world. They are talking about Guam; and they’re talking about you.” And when it comes to tourism, he added, “I can say this: You’re going to go up, like, tenfold with the expenditure of no money.”

Virginia’s governor has declared a state of emergency amid violent clashes between hundreds of protestors in Charlottesville, Va.

The move comes ahead of a white nationalist rally planned in the small town to protest plans to remove a statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee from a city park. Saturday morning, protesters and counter-protesters faced off and kicked and punched, hurled water bottles and deployed chemical sprays against each other.

The declaration by Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe was made in order to “aid state response to violence” at the rally in the city about 120 miles southwest of Washington, D.C. The city’s manager also declared a local emergency and police ordered people to disperse from the area around the statue, according to The Associated Press.

The “Unite the Right” rally is expected to draw a lot of people from out of town. It follows last month’s Ku Klux Klan rally that drew about 50 Klan members and about 1,000 counter-protesters.

After the violent outbursts, politicians tweeted their disdain at the events in Charlottesville. House Speaker Paul Ryan called the views of the white nationalists “repugnant,” and called for Americans to unite against “this kind of vile bigotry.”

Guam, come for the beautiful beaches and clear blue waters.

Stay for the impending nuclear strikes.

I hate to say, I am sure I am going to get called crazy, but I think if that nut fires a nuke anywere near Guam, I think it is time to nuke N. Korea, especially wherever the nut is located.

The problem is South Korea is right next door, along with our military. Nuclear fallout doesn’t respect borders.

Yeah they’ve invested alot of money as a company into improving security, including cameras and secret shoppers. They have heat sensing cameras that can watch you through shelves now, and stealth cameras disguised as shelves. It’s not the same as the early 2000s.

Good to know. I won’t be trying on any clothing in a Walmart any time soon. 😉

If half the security cameras actually worked they could figure out who did it.

Oh they do, and I, as certain as I could possibly be considering I don’t work at that particular store, Say they absolutely know who did it. The fact that they aren’t saying who it was most likely means it was a customer that hasn’t come back into the store so that aren’t going to spend the time or money to go after them. But is better publicity to pretend they don’t know than it is to say that know but aren’t going to do anything about it.

-Possessed, lower level manager at Wal-Mart.

My Mom got her wallet lifted at the local Walmart in the early 2000’s by two crooks working as a a team. (One engages you in conversation while the other goes for the grab.) The employees were about as helpful and understanding as a dead moose. They acted as if there wasn’t video of the incident. If it wasn’t for the fact it was the only place in the area carrying the nutricional supplement my Dad liked, (he was battling cancer at the time) she never would have shopped there ever again.
