Mrs. Palpatine? š
Mrs. Palpatine? š
Do we really have to wait until 2142 though? š
https://youtu.be/98ma7eoR0N4Oh wow, Iād never seen that before. I had no idea what they began their broadcasts with but of course they played Star Wars first, haha. I knew that MTV started with Video Killed the Radio Star but I didnāt know there was a whole countdown and then a dedication to Asimov, and then STAR WARS as the beginning of the Sci-Fi Channel.
Such humble little beginnings for what would eventually become⦠whatever it is now, LOL! Thanks for posting that.
It was about two weeks of that countdown clock with trippy screensaver like graphics and random soundbites from across the genre. I was so thrilled my cable company had it from the ground floor. That dedication still brings a tear to my eye.

Excellent find! Although Yavin 4 is still at least still coming out from behind the gas giant in that shot. Nice that somebody back in '77 gave it a little more thought given the breakneck pace of post production.
How the heck did someone smuggle a big ass video camera and portable recorder into a 1980 screening?
And yes, it weighs a @#$%^@! ton.
Maybe the crowd was just more of these guys?
Or else I think itās just his personal army of Torgos. ;P
Who exactly are those guys? Anyone know?
IIRC, they were supposed to be his advisors, so pretty much like all the flunkies he kept around in the prequels only less alien.
I donāt think Iāve ever spotted the conehead one in the movie.
What was Kenner thinking making one of these guys an action figure when we never even got a Wedge?
Poor chap never even got a proper name at the time.

Rob Zombie would be cool as a bounty hunter or something in The Mandalorian.
One of the main reasons DVD took off had a lot to do with the easily observable visual leap from VHS. When the prices started dropping from āLaserdiscā enthusiast level down to the $200 range, electronics stores (hah, remember those!) were basically shoveling the things out the door by simply connecting a VCR and a DVD player to the same TV and pushing a button on a switcher.
DVD killed Laserdisc and VHS because it looked better than both formats, was cheap, and didnāt have any of the handling problems (getting up to flip the disc over, having to pay for an expensive disc-flipping player, worrying about rewinding and tape-eating).
My back aches when I think of all the times I had to get off my butt to turn the disc over. Not! š
I still recall where the side breaks occurred in many of my favorite films and marvel when thereās no interruption on the DVD. And then my Blu Ray player takes itās sweet time on a layer change. š
Wow, never noticed him in ESB. As Leia seems to be using the Captain is the last man to abandon ship protocol on Hoth, I could see other rebel leaders waiting until the last ship goes out even though that increases the chances of not escaping. I once read someplace that Rieekan was supposed to have died in ESB, (which left Leia running things when Han shows up to get her) but was that ever filmed?
A lot of rebels donāt survive past one reel of each movie though. Even being Lukeās snowspeeder gunner is not a safe gig.
Whoās the one radio guy?
Iām surprised he hasnāt messed with his USC student films at this point. š
A lot of LD fans spat on DVD early on, at least thatās how I recall it. There were fears it would be just VHS on a shiny disc, no widescreen options or extras. And since the powers that be seemed to be doing everything to nudge LD off a cliff rather than let it quietly fade away, that made some die hard fans even more pissed off.
Pioneer did make a few combo players that could handle both formats.
Itās interesting there never was a full frame version of The Matrix on DVD that I know of, yet the sequels got separate fullscreen editions.
Since Dodonna did appear in the Marvel comic past the movie adaptation, I was wondering where he was in ESB. Also possible the actors wanted more money?
How come the opening crawl says that Luke Skywalker is the leader of a group of freedom fighters? He only gets lost and abandons them whenever he feels like it.
He only got lost after nearly being killed and eaten by The Bumble, hardly his fault. Heās earned the rank of Commander, and leads the Rogue squadron against the Imperial Walkers, that makes him a leader if not the leader.
Luke doesnāt set off on his Dagobah quest until after Hoth has been evacuated. Arguably the fleet can manage without him for a while after that.
Han apparently remains a Captain, but gets a promotion to General in ROTJ just for getting thawed out.
I think major theatrical reissues were tapering off by the end of the 1970ās, except for revival theaters. Disney was reissuing their classics (every seven years) well into the 1990ās though. That is probably the model George wanted to emulate.
Star Wars was too much of a license to print money for Fox to ever make such a threat, especially if they wanted to distribute the sequels. The home video market was barely in existence when Lucas was quoted circa 1978. By 1982 it was already a considerable new revenue stream for the studios, and George has never been allergic to making money.
Holy Bantha Poodoo! I never picked up on that before. š®
Another deliberate creative decision Iām sureā¦
Not sure Iāve seen those air anywhere since the late 1980ās. I never saw them with the Galen intros. There might have been a run on the SciFi channel in the 90ās. 16mm prints do exist though.

JEDIT: Old Starlog article

Aside from too many aliens with drool and slime problems, (We get it George, theyāre evil!) I enjoyed Jabbaās palace.
What some people donāt realize with Lynch is how close he came. He was actually Lucasās number one choice ahead of Marquand but ended up pulling out.
Wouldnāt the massive falling out George had with the DGA have affected either pick? IIRC, Lynch and Cronenberg had done at least one major Hollywood film at that point.
Youāre not automatically added if youāve done a big film like some guilds. Lynch wasnāt a member at the time and would have directed the film he hadnāt said no.
What Iāve not been able to figure out is how Spielberg could keep working on the Indy movies in the meantime, but allegedly couldnāt direct a prequel?
The Indy movies had proper opening credits, so the DGA couldnāt nail Lucas on those. With the prequels, pretty much all of Lucasās buddies said he should just do them himself.
Ah, thanks for the explanation. š
Iām amazed that Jabba doing a Pizza Hutt ad hasnāt happened yet.

It does seem weird, though, that she doesnāt know Han is in charge of the Endor mission until itās mentioned in the briefing.
Not every member of the military, ranking or not, knows the doings of the entire operation.
Han was keeping it from her because he knew sheād be upset & worried. This is before Han forgets that theyāre in love. That stupidity happens later in the film.
Amnesia is apparently a side effect of the freezing process. Han evidently recovers pretty quickly from hibernation sickness otherwise. š
I donāt read any of the expanded universe stuff or the tie-in novels or comics, so these are just thoughts/questions I had while watching the 4K blu-ray of ROTJ earlier today.
Was Leia demoted within the Rebel Alliance or something? Sheās seen barking orders in ESB. In ROTJ, she has no clue whatās going on and that Han was put in command of leading the assault on the shield generator. Somehow known traitors, gamblers, mercenaries and smugglers were advanced within the Rebel ranks ahead of her. Is she considered a general at this time?
What kind of training did Luke get between ESB and ROTJ? Iāve heard some say he couldāve easily visited Yoda to finish his training between the films, but itās clear that this is his first time speaking to Yoda and Obi-Wan since the events of ESB. Maybe he did some practice and learned how to build a lightsaber, but is that all you need to be a Jedi?
Obi-Wan is pretty sure Luke has to straight up murder Darth Vader. Heās pretty upset when Luke tells him he canāt.
Interesting point. Did the other leaders frown on what was essentially a personally motivated rescue mission? Jabba could have potentially sold Leia off to the Empire if he wasnāt so stoned/horny. And when did Lando get made a general, before or after they got back with Han? Mind you, it seems like the fleet was laying low until the big gathering could take place and they got the intel from the Bothan spies, and decided what to do next.
Yeah, people had to go out of their way to read the novelization to find whatever obscure junk lies within. āEwokā was everywhere, especially considering how strong the toy line was.
Not to mention the closing credits. š
