Does anyone besides internet geeks put that much stock in Rotten Tomatoes though? Comcast owns RT as well as Universal, so I’d take reviews there with a grain of salt. That is, if I gave a crap about RT. 😉

BOH will probably break even once it hits home video, streaming and cable. I’m sure Rifftrax is going to take a crack at it.

I would say studios care about RT scores, as well as audiences (they’ve become common in advertising). Not that I care all that much, but it is what it is: a review aggregator. And the general consensus was that Jurassic World was okay fun, and Book of Henry was just plain not fun at all.

Also the idea that Comcast is buying reviews there is pretty ridiculous. Who do you think made Book of Henry, after all?

I wasn’t aware Focus Features was owned by them. Too many subdivisions to keep track of these days.

You could also try rerecording it through a speakerphone or a walkie talkie? Of course the best way to get that true bootleg feel is to output the whole thing to a VCR and then copy the tape a few more times. Then mess with the tracking a bit when digitizing it again. 😃

I have a bootleg ROTS DVD stashed away somewhere, but I don’t know if the subs are what you’re looking for.

Your only as good as your last movie

Colins book of henry bombed at the box office…barely even making 4 million domestically does not reflect well on him.

It is not a question that book of henry was the one that did him in

Baloney.

The movie didn’t exactly have a wide release in a crowded summer market to begin with. According to Box Office Mojo, it played in exactly 579 theaters opening weekend. That’s not a lot compared to most movies. Not sure it even played in my area. Never saw any tv ads for it either. Kind of doubt it was even marketed at the demographic for JW or Star Wars.

Whatever the production budget, (BOM doesn’t say) it wasn’t Disney’s money at stake.

JEDIT:IMDB says ten million budget.

I absolutely LOATHED Safety Not Guaranteed, which is the one of his that people seem to like. I’m fine with this.

Agreed.

The name ‘Spielberg’ keeps floating through my head, I don’t know why. It won’t happen, but I can continue to dream…for now.

Isn’t he starting production on Indy 5 next year though?

You could always watch Frink’s edit. 😛

Henceforth, this shall be the only way I watch AOTC (pending the creation of a radically innovative, non-comedic fanedit).

I’d recommend not watching it. It’s so boring.

Only until the factory scene. Then the screaming starts.

Last time I tried to watch it (1-2 years ago) I couldn’t even make it halfway through before giving up.

I suppose the theory is true; if you can make it through Red Zone Cuba, you can make it through anything.

I couldn’t make it through Beast Of Yucca Flats unriffed. That movie drains my will to live. Not sure if Coleman Francis had a vision, but his movies are bleak and depressing on their own. And they all end with a sniper in an airplane taking out unarmed people suspected of a crime because arrest and trials take too much screen time.

3, … 2, … 1, theories incoming…

Theory 1: Disney liked Episode 8 so much that they want Johnson as director of Episode 9 as well.

disney done several unusual things for rian johnson…prepping him for greater responsibility while colin has been doing nothing but ruining his chances

1: they changed the release date at his behest, sacrificing a culturally advantageous release date(may was the 40th anniversary of star wars and would have given it a massive bump)…disney literally sacrificed a great release date for rian johnson

2: they gave him immense free rein…to the point that actors compared the film to a indie prodution

3: they changed the entire backstory of TFA to accommodate rian

4: they hired a critically acclaimed playwright to rewrite the script of episode 9 while last jedi was suffering no such rewrites…in fact he was given so much free rein that people on star wars fan forums and within lucasfilm were crowning him

5: book of henry was not only panned for a mean spirited tone but colin callled the film a “piece of art” after critics ripped it to shreds

6: several fans point out that colins first film was a short film about a man getting revenge on his ex girlfriend by sleeping with her old mother…this was picked up by major reporters

People aren’t supposed to defend their own movie? Even Ed Wood stuck up for his work.

George’s first film was chock full of nudity and an implied rape scene. Your point?

Oh yeah, Ron Howard’s first big hit was about two guys running a prostitution ring out of a city morgue. Can’t get more family friendly than that. Unless you count Splash. (And that was a Disney film under the Touchstone banner.) Pretty sure sex with a mermaid is going to offend somebody. 😉

kennedy: “i delivered the films that you requested…the fans now rule the universe the last 2 star wars films have high scores on rotten tomatoes and IMDB”

vader: “the franchises power to create problems has certainly been confirmed…han solo directors destroyed…colin leaving the production of episode 9”

Kennedy: it was colin who directed episode 9 and destroyed book of henry

vader: “you were not summoned here to make excuses kennedy”

Kennedy: no but…

vader: “there is no lucas to blame, fans has been informed that the film was being protected from colin, i expect you not to rest until you can assure the emperor, that colins firing will not compromise our reputation in anyway”

kennedy: “am i still in command…you will speak to the fans about this…”

she falls on the floor…grasping at her throat

Because he had one movie that some people didn’t like? Kershner made some turkeys too.

The long term damage if top tier directors pass on a SW film because they might see a few years of prep work flushed down the toilet, when they could be making something with fewer cooks breathing down their necks remains to be seen.

They were damned lucky Ron Howard was available to take over Han Solo.

Politics 2: Electric Boogaloo

Watching The Reagan Show on CNN last night reminded me that Trumpy can’t even coin his own slogan, he stole it from The Gipper.

Also amazing how in three decades people have gone from believing Russian spies were everywhere causing mischief to shrugging off the current scandal.

The montage of press coverage of Reagan’s Strategic Defense Initiative also reminded me how deeply ingrained Star Wars was in the public consciousness even in the lean years after ROTJ. Lucas must have pulled his hair out everytime the press called SDI Star Wars.
