All Things Star Trek
Time

As I’ve said in the past, the 2009 film got new fans into Trek. I overheard a phone conversation in a restaurant around the time the movie premiered, and this woman was going on about what a positive view of the future it was. Trek was this shiny new thing to her. I was thankful she didn’t drop any spoilers as I hadn’t seen the movie yet.

In Defense of the Ewoks

I wish the Ewoks weren’t used for scenes of cute humour. I would have given them an even darker edge than what is seen in RETURN OF THE JEDI (the heroes about to be roasted on a spit).

Mr Lucas missed a golden opportunity with the SE of JEDI. I would have included shots of Ewoks feasting on cooked Imperial flesh - huge close-ups - DAWN OF THE DEAD (1978) style.

Perhaps even a shot of a baby Ewok tasting it’s first Biker Scout?

This is Star Wars, not a video nasty!

They probably did. I can’t recall exactly how long though. There wasn’t any blacking out catalog and cardback images like they did for Jabba and the Ewoks in 1983, so he probably wasn’t in the first ESB wave. I would think Yoda made his plastic debut in time for Christmas.

Flash forward to 2017, where even if I stayed off the forum and cut my internet, I still would see Porgs plastered on the doors of my local Target. I’m staying the hell away from the toy aisle until I see TLJ. :p

It’s a little disturbing when somebody suddenly erases themselves from a forum, (not here) and nukes everything else connected with their posts, (flickr & twitter) and there wasn’t the slightest hint of any trouble. It’s one thing when a troll tries to erase themselves, but this sort of disappearance without any warning makes me think witness protection program.

Yeah, they certainly didn’t want to give away what the new characters looked like until the movie had been out a while. I received a textless version of that poster from the original SW fan club around 1981. I think that was the first time I ever noticed a poster variation as a kid.
I don’t think Yoda was added until much much later.

In answer to a question oojason asked elsewhere, indeed, Warbler has been treated pretty harshly by other posters here: Darth Id and ABC are two examples. Others, even if not cruel to him, have been allowed to get away with obnoxious behavior or more generally belligerent, if not specifically to Warbler. Moderation on this whole forum has been very light since I’ve been a member here, particularly in Off Topic. I’m not saying you are wrong or that a little more moderation isn’t a good thing. I just know that Warbler feels like it’s been a double standard after what little action has been taken in the past, and now a sudden and proportionally drastic increase which affected him.

I feel Warbler could use a break, but more for his own sake than for what “trouble” he may be causing for anyone else. I don’t mind the new level of moderation; I just want it to be applied evenly among all patrons of this website. Truthfully, some of the jerks we’ve had here should have been ejected long ago. In the fairly short time I’ve interacted with oojason, I’ve known him to be level-headed and good-hearted, so I have no doubt his fairness will be universal. I hope Warbler takes the opportunity to relax instead of becoming more upset. In a couple of weeks, no one will even remember this incident.

You’re a good guy, Warbler. We look forward to having you back!

How much of that was before off topic was officially moderated less than a year ago?

Id is currently banned. I don’t think he’s coming back. Can’t recall ABC?

I didn’t even know what you guys were talking about with Orville. Now that you mentioned Seth Mcwhatever, I realized it’s that show I keep seeing commercials for that looks like an awful ripoff of Galaxy Quest. Also it has Seth Mcwhatever sitting in a captain’s chair.

I seem to remember someone claiming that it’s much better than the commercials would lead you to believe, but I’m too old and (therefore) too close to death to waste time on anything Seth Mcwhatever is involved in.

I totally get where you’re coming from. They’re showing it on FX late on weekends and I stumbled into it. Sometimes you have to check your biases at the door.

I’d give Discovery a fair shake if I could see more of it for free. As it stands, I’m not sold and my net speeds range from suck to blow.

And you’re not as close to death as I am. 😛

My concern is the 2.40:1 is the aspect ratio of the already released cut that is on there and the full frame is the previously unreleased extended cut. Why else include the words Full Frame?

It’s 2.40:1 as stated on blu-ray.com forum. Damn, do the research and scroll up to JayArgonauts post for the complete information. OAR and in DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 to boot.

Try being a little nicer when you post.

20% or 40% or 60% or 80%?

I did see JayArgonauts post, and I looked at the link. I appreciate him posting it. The issue is the link he posted has some slight differences from the link for the preorder, namely his link lists 16x9 letterbox, while the order page lists 16x9 FULL FRAME. It’s an odd choice to list is as full frame, and considering the International Cut was only ever shown on TV in fullframe as opposed to widescreen or letterbox leads to the question. I have done the research and checked it out. Not sure where the anger is coming from considering I haven’t asked anything out of lack of research. The same question has been brought up on other boards, where some people have actually reached out to WB for clarification.

As an aside, I have loved being a part of this community for quite some time. This is the first time I have ever had such a response. Oh well, have a great day! I hope it is in widescreen.

It’s the same with Amazon and other sites which don’t have completed disc specifications. Cull all information from what you can gather and then get the stuff for thing for the complete details.
Personally, I learned about this release with the Latest News section on the front page of Blu-ray.com

Try 100% and check the attitude at the door.

"Now...what shall we talk about?" The All-Inclusive Indiana Jones Thread

It was still PG the last time I caught it at a revival screening several years back. It and Gremlins led to the PG-13 rating being created though. Parents still drop their kids off at a PG-13 without a second thought.
The whole controversy was quite laughable considering all the smart kids knew which theaters would let them into R rated horror films unchallenged. Even Fangoria magazine offered tips on how to see really scary movies without your parents.

The MPAA changes it’s mind on what one can get away with in a PG film more than most people change their socks. I don’t think the UK has a R rating.
