Yeah, there are some nice BTS photos in OUAG.
Yeah, there are some nice BTS photos in OUAG.
You’d think four bottles of booze would be enough.
I hope there’s an anniversary screening this year, if things ever get back to normal. I long to see and hear this on the big screen again.
To kick off:-
The Empire Strikes Back wrap party hosted by Meredith Kurtz (wife of producer Gary) - on the film stage of Dagobah…
Is this from my scan of Once Upon a Galaxy?
For context, they built a platform spanning the swamp so people wouldn’t have to wade into the muck and encounter any stray reptiles still running loose. 😉
I’ve seen Tarkin is his comfy slippers, but never seen that one! You’d think they would cheat that way more often! Some actors do feel like they can’t get into character unless they are wearing a complete outfit though.
That’s truly awesome, talk about a deep cut reference! When is beer gut/beret/scarf reflector guy going to get some love? 😛
One does wonder how George kept cool in that heat.
Just like everybody else who wants their favorite movie on the latest format? Golly, I’d love to have an early 2000’s anamorphic OOT DVD release I could bitch about being the only thing out there one could buy. Even the original cut of The Warriors got one.
Interesting idea! When CBS aired the movie in the late 80’s they inexplicably showed it as two one hour installments a week apart. (With a recap before part two.) I can’t for the life of me remember which scene they ended part one on.
At least all the crew got to have a proper celebration and private screening. They deserved it.
They’re kids movies first and foremost. They’re fun in that context. (The second one gets a bit dark, but that’s George for you.) Some people judged them harshly at the time possibly because they were expecting something on the level of a regular Star Wars film for tv, and there was still Ewok loathing around a year or two after ROTJ.
I’d be surprised if Disney doesn’t make an Ewok film for their streaming service. Lucas did say once there was going to be a third film, but it was getting too expensive. Cindel all grown up standing next to Wicket in TROS would have been a nice touch, even it if baffled casual fans. 😉
I don’t think phasers or photon torpedoes ever came out of the exact same spot on the Enterprise either. (If there was an actual port on the model in those spots at all.) It’s whatever looked good at the time?
I remember a comment from a few years ago on a video about DeSpecialized and the comment was basically along the lines of “I don’t understand why you would want to undo the new effects and reinsert those older cheesier effects” or whatever.
Just a few months ago a guy on Blu-ray.com was talking how the updated versions are better than with the outdated effects or whatever. I had to reiterate that he was stating an opinion. His response was “It’s not an opinion though. The original versions have dated special effects and are dated over all, the new versions look far superior, even though they have some admittedly already dated CGI. I do wish Lucas would have waited until CGI was as good as it is now“. I once again reiterated to him that this was his opinion, not fact.
I wish he had waited too! We might have gotten a decent OOT release in the meantime. That forum has had a long history of people who don’t get movie preservation. I wonder how good the CGI in the prequels looks to them now?
I always figured the cannons could be operated from the cockpit. There are situations where it’s better to have two people in the turrets and someone concentrating on doing the driving.
They did film rebel soldiers in the turrets for ROTJ though.
Motti is a younger man, who like Han Solo doesn’t believe in a bunch of simple tricks and nonsense. Hokey religions are no match for a good superlaser.
I think Admiral Motti pissing off Vader was more of mocking his belief in the Force, not knowledge of Vader’s history.
I think it’s a closed system, not being used to surf the web. As long as it’s not hooked up to the dental drills I guess? 😉
Anyway, maybe what I need is an older machine to do my writing on?

Presumably, Luke knows some galactic history and what clones looked like? If Ben isn’t a clone and he fought in the CW, he can’t be a Trade Federation guy either, as they were mostly non human.
Also, Ben is probably confident he knows Luke well enough to tell that he’s no Empire loving snitch. Even though Biggs only confided in Luke his plans to join the Rebellion, we don’t see evidence the local population likes the Empire all that much. Only one guy even bothered finding the nearest sand trooper after that little disturbance in the cantina.
Interestingly enough, there was speculation back in the 80’s that Obi Wan was a clone designation, possibly derived from OB1.
I think there might be a Jabba costume sketch in The Art Of Star Wars, but I don’t have my copy handy. 😕
Did Jabba’s henchmen ever get names, especially the Greedo twins? And please don’t tell me one of them is Anakin’s little Rhodian pal from TPM. 😉
Wow! Were they considering that or was that simply Levar’s look at the time?
They say that Geordi LaForge is one bad mutha’…
Interesting that Marvel didn’t use him and went with this guy…
Have there ever been any good images of Mulholland’s costume? I think I see a blaster hanging from his belt?
Also…NAKED CHEWIE! 😮
This makes me wonder if somebody recalled Baron Tagge in the old Marvel comics when the character of La Forge was being developed?
Interesting to contemplate, but that would have been a massive commitment for Lucas, who seemed a little burnt out on Star Wars after ROTJ. Would he have found directors up to the job? Would the Ewok movies have happened? Or Willow? Or the special editions?
Imagine a SW entry and The Last Crusade both coming out in summer 1989!
So, how long has this been a thing?
Or is it some clever Disney twitter ploy?
Maybe it goes hand in hand with the erroneous mindset that old movies don’t look good in HD?
