Was rather surprised by the NASA announcement about going back to the Moon and setting foot on Mars today. (Although it’s the 40th anniversary of the last time man was on the Moon.) Maybe I’ll live long enough to see someone walk on Mars after all!

I saw no signs of moderation, if they had moderators at all. It’s become little more than a shill for whatever is current in theaters now. Kind of sad, as I think first used it back when my dad had still had a dial up service like Compuserve in the early 90’s.

I’ve barely used it since they shut down their message boards. Sure, it was a troll infested wasteland, but occasionally there were informative posts.
I have both U.S. Laserdisc releases, but haven’t watched them in some time. I know there’s a slight dialog change in Battle For Endor from the tv version. The end credits in the tv version play out over the final shot, the movie version credits play out over black.
I preserved my 1985 off air recording of BFE several years back. It’s mostly complete, except where the family VCR backed up a second or two when paused around commercial breaks. I used to have a tv recording of The Ewok Adventure as well, but lost that along with all my Droids/Ewoks Adventure Hour recordings when I loaned the tapes out in the early 90’s and never got them back. 😕

What constitutes the original version gets kind of murky as both Ewok films played theatrically in Europe not long after they aired in the U.S. Or did they change them again for the DVD?

He did get paid Four Billion dollars to essentially walk away. Star Wars indirectly took a toll on his health and even his first marriage. I’d take a long powder too.

Have you heard Disney could own Fox by next week so then they would be allowed to rerelease the OUT although they have clearly restored them already cause remember at SWC 2017 they showed some deleted scenes and they also had to restore for R1 so they may have already restored them or have Mike Verta’s Legacy but can’t release them cause Fox owns rights to Star Wars, so if they buy Fox then they could announce it a while afterwards and maybe release it with Solo: A Star Wars Story, May 25th 2018 or release it in January at a stretch who knows anything is possible.

I can’t remember if I posted about this before but I believe the alternate print source used on the Criterion FRWL is the same as the one on the last Pan n Scan MGM disc. It has the same damage marks and looks very similar with the only difference being that it’s an older disc in CLV. The Connery Collection disc is either a new transfer of the same element cleaned up or with new elements mixed in.
I’m pretty positive that we can definitely say now that all three Criterions are print sourced due to all of them having cue marks, differing color to other releases and optical noise. On many occasions Criterion used fine grains or earlier generation show prints so this would fit.
And of course with their DN being the closest match to the IB…that’ll be the clincher.I wonder if all three are sleeper IB transfers like Criterion’s Wizard of Oz. They might very well be as I don’t think they had made archive prints on safety yet as MGM simply used and reused the same elements until starting the first video restorations in 1995.
And in other news a guy on the LD forever group found TWINE for two bucks…and plans to sell it for crazy money…argh!
How many people actually pay those crazy prices for those tail end of the format releases? It’s a fluke when one 16mm Star Wars print sells for more than a 35mm print, but everyone else jacks up their prices and they just sit there on ebay forever until the price slowly comes back down to reality.
I have a Japanese LD of Titan A.E. some sellers ask thousands for. I’ve never seen one sell for more than $400.

The only way they could make it more disturbing is if they digitally erased the offending body parts as was done for the most recent edited for tv version of The Shining, which made it look like Jack Nicholson was making out with a Barbie doll. 😉
