The Last Jedi: Official Review and Opinions Thread ** SPOILERS **

I found the dark side cave scene interesting. It was a very different experience for Rey than what Luke had on Dagobah.
And if what Kylo said about Rey’s parents is actually true, what do we make of her childhood memory in TFA of looking up at a departing ship? Did Unkarr Plutt lie about what happened to them?

Also, it’s funny as heck that a Jedi who grew up on Tatooine regards Jakku as an even more desolate hole.

Nope, nothing wrong with being nice to animals. Only that it is a thing or a theme from OUR era. Not something that fits the era Star Wars is set in. From that point of view yes, it is political.

Once the USSR government made a El Quijote movie, refreshed with marxist themes. At some point it ceased to be El Quijote and was just an open alegory of those day’s debate. And then it just wasn’t a movie about a spanish hero anymore.

And you might ask me what era is star wars set in since it is basically escapism.

And that falls on everyone’s personal perspective. But as I said, to me SW is a fairy tale, a mostly traditional fairy tale. No one cared about animal’s rights back then.

It just felt off to me, just as the Ewoks, or the Opera scene in ROTS.

Well, we didn’t see anybody whipping the Taun Tauns in ESB either. 😛

Interesting, as Lucas did spend some time in Japan in the early 70’s and fans have speculated about the anime influence on Star Wars ever since. I certainly saw elements of Star Wars in Space Battleship Yamato when it reached American tv’s as Star Blazers.

What’s wrong with being nice to animals others are clearly abusing for their own pleasure and greed? Nothing political about that. ROTJ hung on being nice to teddy bears.

I think Rey is just modest about seeing her nemesis half naked. 😉

(2.5 is The Clone Wars; 3.9 is R1. I have not watched the Ewok films.)

Many people apparently actually like The Phantom Menace, but it is below AOTC for me because it can be entirely skipped from a SW marathon and no story would be missed. One might say the same for Rogue One, but I feel it adds to an already intesting story while TPM adds little more than fluff and nonsense to a backstory that’s just kind of okay.

Also, I only consider watching prequel edits that implement The Cutter’s idea of not-killing-Padme in 3 and edits of 1 and 2 that match up with said qualifying edits of 3. I don’t mix and match prequel editors’ projects, generally because there are nuances in the stories that don’t fit when you do that.

The Clone Wars film is at the bottom because I can’t stand the Ziro character (why doesn’t he speak Huttese; and why is his voice so annoying?) and the plot of rescuing Jabba’s baby is stupid.

The Truman Capote voice was George’s idea. 😛

I swear I’m the only one around here who likes Ziro. Pity that slutty Sy Snootles killed him. 😕

Luke did something we’ve never seen any other Jedi do before. He projected a solid version of himself across unimaginable distances and could interact with Leia and even Threepio. That had to come with a price. In the end, Luke saved the day one last time and went out a hero.

I didn’t get that from the movie at all. If that had been communicated more clearly to the audience it might not have felt so insulting to me.

You didn’t notice Luke had lost the gray? Jedi’s don’t stop to use Grecian Forumla. 😉

NASA has done research on exposure to vacuum. Stanley Kubrick consulted with them before making 2001 A Space Odyssey.

Contrary to popular belief, people do not swell up and pop like balloons when exposed to space.
I would argue Leia wasn’t dead, merely stunned. She does have the Force you know. Did people get bent out of shape over two similar sequences in Guardians Of The Galaxy?

You should ask for a refund next time. 😛

Slightly? It’s like night and day to me. I think the design of CPY was unfortunately a bit stiff and those subtle nuances of Frank’s puppetry were lost. All those little things that make Yoda Yoda were evident here.

Luke may have sunk his X-Wing to ensure he wouldn’t ever be tempted to leave. (And avoid detection if a ship ever passed by?) Dagobah swamp is one thing, I doubt it would be flyable after being in the ocean for too long.

Mark Hamill has been a seriously underrated actor for far too long. (Even though he’s probably the best incarnation of The Joker ever.) He played Mozart in Amadeus on Broadway, but likely wasn’t even considered for the film version because he’s forever identified with Luke in a way Harrison Ford doesn’t have to deal with having been both Han and Indy.

Mark just knocked it out of the park with this. I sincerely hope he gets an Oscar nomination. It would be a first for a Star Wars film?

I waited 34 years to see Luke back in action, and it was worth the wait.

No, Guiness got nominated for Obi-Wan in Star Wars for the 1978 Academy Awards.

Thanks for refreshing my memory. Let’s hope lightning strikes twice in this case.

What is a casino supposed to look like in the GFFA? The whole point was to show the decadence that’s taken root in the galaxy. In the prequels, slavery was going on in backwater worlds, much to Padme’s surprise. Here it’s happening on a nice clean civilized planet.

In movie elapsed time, the New Republic and billions of people were wiped out not that long ago, and it’s not affected business. Surprised the Hutts weren’t shown to be behind the whole operation. They’ve got to be running amok with nobody keeping them in check.

For all the references to money in past films, this is the first time we’ve seen currency. And Han Solo’s reward doesn’t count, as we never actually saw what was in those boxes.
