Some episodes are crawling with dust though. One wonders if the animation house left a window open on a blustery day. The producers must have pulled their hair out when the footage came back from Japan.
The DS could probably blow up Yavin, but it would be like lighting off the galaxy’s biggest cherry bomb, and outrunning the shockwave would be a problem. The sequel to 2001 A Space Odyssey shows what happens when those pesky alien monoliths light a match to Jupiter.
Not sure if there’s a thread but a Blu Ray set is coming this year. (No specific date has been announced yet.) Apparently Mask Of The Phantasm sold very well.

I’m SO sick of loud advertisements! I’m watchin’ tv and have the volume set so that the show I’m watching is at a decent level. Then the damn ad’s start and it’s LOUD NOISES! AAAAHHH!!!
I’m generally not one to say things like this, but… the government (FCC) should regulate that.
They were supposed to once upon a time. I doubt they’ve actually ever done anything about it.

Think about the convieniece in the first movie. The driods just happen to get picked by Jawas that stop first at the Lars homestead. The one homestead with a connection to Kenobi. Any other would have done as far as R2 is concerned because Luke want part of his plan, but Luke is crutial to GL’s script. Star Wars has a lot of convenient plot points like that. Usually we don’t think about them.
MST3K has called such things Plot Convenience Playhouse. 😛
The Death Star is as big as a small moon. You probably want to jump in and out where you’re less likely to run into something. It might even tax the systems needed to power the superlaser. Even the second Death Star can’t pop off several shots at once.
There’s also the psychological terror aspect of seeing that indestructable sucker slowly coming at you. Everyone on Alderaan had plenty of time to contemplate their doom even if they didn’t know what the DS was going to do.
It seems like a lot of people have the idea that in order to enjoy a movie they have to like, defend, and justify every single aspect of it.
I don’t think so. I don’t love the idea of Star Destroyers entering atmospheres, the Evazan cameo, or the lack of Moroff screen time to name just a few. It’s not a perfect film at all, but it’s still a film that I really love.
And I really dig Vader in this movie and enjoy discussing and debating his appearance in it.
Vader should have said “Needa hand there, Captain?” to stay in character.
Yes. This is exactly the level the R1 pun is on. Vader didn’t talk like that.
I guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree. I don’t think Vader’s actual pun is nearly as lame as that. In fact, I think it sounds very much like something he’d have said in the OT (particularly reminiscent of “apology accepted” as he flipping KILLS the guy…) and have no problem with it.

I think the idea that a Star Destroyer can enter the atmosphere has been around a while. The old making of ESB paperback mentions a scene that never made the final cut where the Rebel troops on Hoth look up to see a SD overhead. And we’ve never seen exactly how Imperial Walkers are dispatched.
We haven’t, though in TLJ you can see walker transport ships in the hangar on the Supremacy.
As for a star destroyer in the atmosphere, I’m not sure I understand that complaint.
One of the IMPS fan films depicts an Aliens style drop off, only on a bigger scale.
I thought they were dispatched by hitting the little glowing box near their neck, or hitting any part of them approx. 1000 times.
Almost impossible on the Intellivision port of the game, IIRC. I blame sloppy programming. 😛

I was massively confused by that helmet’s existence as a kid. It’s bizarre how iconic that thing has become. Hardware Wars made good use of it. And it’s lived on in other forms.
I sometimes think it could be my long pined for Moderator hat. 😉
