Good question! I know some smaller DVD labels have watermarked their transfers of PD titles because even smaller fly by night labels just rip them off. Collections of PD cartoons being an example. Purists hate the bug in the corner of the screen.

It would not surprise me if Criterion found a way to watermark their restoration in a way invisible to the eye and ear.

The recent Manos: The Hands of Fate restoration is copyrighted, but the Blu Ray provides an additional unrestored transfer from a different print with a fair use disclaimer.

Freud would have a field day with that poster! 😛

The MPAA can be confusing, but the first three original Planet of The Apes films got G ratings too. I guess the MPAA likes monkeys a lot?

How did the audio remix of TMP bump up the rating?

I kind of liked the Naboo pistols. They have a vintage Flash Gordon/Buck Rogers vibe to them.

They are plenty of reasons to make the weapons less “real” looking these days.

No idea. I still think miniatures have certain advantages over CGI. Explosions have a random element a computer really can’t recreate. At least not yet.

They’ve yet to recreate the incredibly proportioned women of Heavy Metal in real life. 😉

They’re probably about even more or less. People forget there was a lot of practical stuff in TPM.

Not sure. Bourne Identity was one of the free discs that came with my HD-DVD player. This was around 2008. They could still have talked about the sequel without giving that plot point away.

You might need a firmware update? Also wouldn’t surprise me if Disney did something that wasn’t kosher with the format specs and the Sony is hiccuping on it.
These things never happened with HD-DVD. 😛

I have the odd DVD or two that seem to spin faster than anything else I own, or at least they make the player really noisy to the point you think the disc is going to fly out of the machine and kill you. No idea what causes it.
