Indeed.

I finally caved and got a smart phone this year, but I don’t trust it to do anything beyond simple web browsing. I won’t even log into the forum with it.

…Why do you have it then? It’s just a small tablet that makes phone calls, and a tablet is just a laptop with no built-in physical keyboard. It’s a computer. Why do you have a computer if you’re too scared to use it?

Your wifi will not reenable itself (from being disabled) by itself, but it will connect if it is enabled and detects a wifi SSID you’ve connected to before (if you told it to). If you got a notification about connecting to wifi, it was probably because the business’ guest access point has a confirmation page (ie. “I’m not a robot”) you need to access before it will let you use the wifi.

Also, if your friend had an app that appeared to boot on its own, I’d bet money he has location sharing turned on, and some app (like Google Now) popped up a relevant notification for whatever business you were in at the time. You can turn off location sharing for specific apps, or altogether, if you don’t want your phone to do that.

Well, if you really must know, my previous dumb phone started going bad on me, (poor reception, being unable to send texts) but at least it had a text keypad. (My LG is the emergency back up phone and texts are a pain in the ass.) There don’t seem to be any current models out there with the little blackberry style QWERTY keyboard anymore, and this new phone was relatively cheap and on sale. I resisted a smartphone this long because I suck at touchscreens and have to use a stylus just to type.

And I’m not scared to use it. I’m merely cautious. I don’t have to my banking on the darn thing or update my social media status every two minutes. I’m also staring at this site for too many hours a day as it is. 😉

Your Razr still works? Tracfone obsoleted my trusty decade old Motorola flip phone when all the 2G networks were being phased out. They sent me a free LG flipper as a replacement, but I can’t do the Captain Kirk communicator flip with it.

I finally caved and got a smart phone this year, but I don’t trust it to do anything beyond simple web browsing. I won’t even log into the forum with it. I also freaked out the other day when it seemingly turned it’s wi-fi on all by itself and connected when I was at a restaurant where I used wi-fi before. The person I was dining with had an app on his iPhone seemingly start up by itself at the same time.

Stuff like this could make me really paranoid.

Don’t believe in ghosts. Don’t really understand that whole thing.

I will say my second cousin may or may not have been one of the cast members of the Syfy show Ghost Hunters at some point. Won’t say who because I don’t want someone to stalk and murder me.

Arthur C. Clarke once said he believed ghosts are as real as dreams. One episode of his Mysterious World series put a battery of high tech analysis of several famous ghost photos. All but one could be explained as double exposures or some other random malfunction of old school manually operated film cameras.

I find it interesting the current ghost hunter shows never seem to catch anything visual beyond “orbs”, which I presume are just dust particles catching the light. I have plenty of flash photos with orbs in them so I must be surrounded!

Criterion is gearing up to release the entire Showa Godzilla series (1954-1975. 15 films) on bluray.
I’m amazed. I can’t wait!

Whoa. I remember when they announced releasing some classic Godzilla back in the Laserdisc era. Those unfortunately never came out. I presume because Toho was and is notoriously difficult to work with.
Glad Criterion kept their eye on the King of all Monsters no matter how long it finally took.
