Thanks for the heads up! Time to get my Betamax behemoth out of mothballs!

But you don’t seem to like anime?
I’m going to presume you were at an anime con unwillingly?
So is Star Wars fandom as of late. Your point?
Just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not an art form.
Prequels and SE notwithstanding, this is the only time we saw vaporators near or in a dwelling.

Would be cool to see more of these things, whatever they are?
Exhaust vents?
I do like the idea of abandoned structures out in the desert. There could be entire ghost towns on Tatooine for all we know.
It’s not as bad as some of the pointless action in the prequels or Rogue One, but I’d put the Endor shield generator stuff in a list of worst sequences in all of Star Wars. It’s definitely the most unwatchable part of the OT (OOT that is).
I don’t think that magazine article in the 90’s that kickstarted the whole ROTJ sucks thing even mentioned that part.
Parts of the prequels hardly qualify as a live action film though. 😉

Super 8 film. Not quite dead yet!

Original U-matic resolution specs lie somewhere between VHS and S-VHS in quality anyway. Later refinements like SP improved on it, but that wasn’t available in the late 70’s.
She’s probably a droid who was damaged and abandoned by a previous owner and modified and repaired themselves. Not much of a stretch as we’ve seen a droid who went into the bounty hunter business. None of this backstory may even make it into the movie. Did we take all the cantina alien bios as gospel?
The name could be a play on LUH-3417 who was THX’s roomate in THX-1138.
Vuffi Ra would have been a nice nod to the Lando novels though.
I’m a little dubious about that auction. Why a stock photo and not a pic of the actual tapes? It also says the commercials have been edited out. If that’s true, it’s a second generation tape presuming the original recording was even on U-Matic to begin with. Also possible it simply has breaks where commercials would go.
Without more information, there’s no way to tell if this was an off air recording or a dub off a broadcast master.
For the kind of money they’re asking, some screenshots would be nice.
My new smartphone is constantly restarting itself every few minutes. I fear I’ve got a lemon on my hands. 😕
I think the days of one guy painting the poster image are long gone, sadly.
Kubrick personally signed off on the Criterion Laserdisc master though.
If it was in line with other masters at the time, he may have been fine with it not quite looking like film; the limited color space of NTSC didn’t give colorists a lot of flexibility. And we don’t know how much he cared about getting the color spot-on for home viewing. Maybe he wasn’t as picky about color as he was about framing.
Actually, we might find out very soon. 😉

Impressive work! Even the Special Edition version.
LOL! Perfect! And I wish I’d thought of that!
Hello there! What did I miss?
Hi Leo! You picked a fine time to pop in. 😉
Which is probably why that secret cave chock full of extra lives was left in. I doubt I could have finished the game without it.
Was that before or after you talked about how you fantasized about ripping some of our faces off or whatever it was you said?
After.
And it was throats, not faces. 😃Have you ever seen the movie Road House?
Actually can’t say I have. Is it about steak? I could get down on that
No, you’re thinking of the Black Angus movie. 😛
The OT moderator coffee break room has a poster of Dalton on the wall. 😃
I actually did completely forget. It’s not ringing any bells and I played that game a lot.
It’s the first boss.
It’s a decent game but it’s frustrating for the wrong reasons at times.
You have to know which cliff to jump off of is all. 😉
Any progress?
Here is a clip off of YouTube that shows the cut.
That’s a nasty cut once you’ve seen the original. Even in the 80’s they could have optically blurred the number out. Grease has had the coke signs in the Frosty Palace scenes blurred out since 1978. I’ve been told the 40th anniversary version has digitally inserted Pepsi signs since Paramount is apparently still too cheap to just cut Coca Cola a check.
