Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, this looks really interesting! Love seeing different versions of ROTS. Could I please have a link to see it? Thanks!
Hey Siliconmaster, could I get a link to your film please?
I’m really interested in seeing it before Jedi Fallen Order 😉
Sent a PM your way 😃
Agreed, nice work! And yeah, it was just flipped from AotC, I don’t think I did any color correction to it since it matched the time of day for my purpose.
Hey I’m interested in checking this out, could I get a link please?
Edit: New account, realized I could pm as well, sorry if cluttering comments. Not sure how to delete.
No worries, PM sent!
Where can I actually watch the film? I can’t find a link
PM the editor and he’ll give you the link.
DarthOmeir, sent you a PM!

I like the cut from “Are you threatening me, Master Jedi?” to “Not yet.” It ties into Windu being made to appear to Anakin as truly about to execute him in the next scene, rather than arresting him.
It’s a nice line, and has plenty of meme magic behind it, but this edit is from an alternate universe, after all. Midichlorian jokes you see in things don’t compute with my edits either, y’know.
I love that edit, and borrowed it for my own. Sometimes I miss the original “I am the Senate!” line, but for the same reasons Hal mentioned, skipping the line works great in this context. Windu should be super arrogant and sure of himself, rather than hiding behind the law. Hal, you mentioned in your commentary that the non-existant ideal version of the movie would have Windu charge off to Palpatine by himself to cement this side of his character. Since we can’t do that, making him a quippy douchebag is close enough.
I actually think it’d be interesting if after IX came out, a group of editors did a little podcast and discussed ideas for edits in the context of all nine films.
I would listen to that.
Sent a pm over to you too!
Sure, sent you a pm!
Hm, that’s the first I’ve heard about artifacts in the lower-bitrate files, but I also encoded those last, admittedly as an afterthought for those who wanted smaller versions. I did most of my H264 vs MPEG-2 tests on the 30 GB file, which would explain why that one looks the best. Apologies to anyone who downloaded the smaller files and thought my video quality was crap, whoops. I’ll be hosting VaderLovesU’s considerably higher-quality file alongside my own for those who are able to watch H.265 files on their AV systems - mine can’t, so I’d never seriously considered it before.
I’ve also updated the folder names on google drive, so they now reference the format and relative quality.
I’m glad you liked the edit! And it’s fun to hear that you watched it with your kids! My goal was to make a version of the movie that I would be happy to watch with friends or on my own, and it sounds like that has translated well to others’ enjoyment 😃
Mpeg-2. It’s the same video stream as the 30 GB MKV file, but in a shiny package. I did some tests and found the fine picture details seemed better with Mpeg-2,at least out of Adobe Media Encoder. H264 smoothed out a little more than I wanted for the level of quality I was aiming toward.
Haha glad you like my version. That, the council scene, and the prophecy removal from the Yoda/Obi-Wan/Windu ship flight were probably the most complex edits of the whole project (not including the problematic transitions that took ages to get right). Sent you a pm!
A pm with links is in your inbox
Sure, sent one to you as well!
Hi there, sent you a pm!
I did all my editing at 1080p, but I didn’t have as many effects changes. It’s really up to what your source materials are. If you have all 1080p sources, there’s no reason to downscale other than perhaps render times. You’d still need to mask out pieces the same way, and having more pixels to work with will actually make that easier since you can see more detail.
If you’re doing a lot of zooming, it depends on how drastic the shifts are. If you go really far in, then yeah, I could see the justification for lowering the rest of the movie to match better. If it’s only like a 10-15% zoom you might be able to get away with it on a 1080p sequence by using an unsharp mask filter or something similar.
That being said, I know Adywan is editing at 720p so that he can integrate lower-resolution sources like the GOUT and whatnot, so that’s a perfectly valid reason to do so.
Fantastic work! It’s fascinating to see the idea become reality.
I notice that in the wide shot, the lights on the sides of the wall struts are a grey color, while they’re closer to pure white in close ups. Are you planning to brighten them up slightly in the wide shot to match? I think it would really make those struts pop.
I’ve sent Hal links to all relevant scenes and audio. Happy to contribute!
Thanks, I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Edit: Whoops, thought this was a PM response, didn’t mean to post the actual link here. I’ll PM you directly.
As for the Chosen One stuff, that is a good point. I don’t have edits of Episodes I and II and I can’t say I’m sure which other edits might have done similar things. Perhaps looking on the IFDB at fanedit.org might give you some options. Personally, I made the change because it felt silly and contrived within this single film’s storyline.
Sure, I’ve sent you a private message.
Unfortunately I’ve been informed that the rogue audio clip that I removed in v1.2 has made a sneaky return. Until I can fix and reupload, be aware that there’s a music clip at around 36:11 that does not belong. Apologies, and thanks for understanding.
Edit: This has been fixed in v1.4.
RotS:Rebalanced has been approved by the IFDB! Its public listing should go live this Sunday. In the meanwhile I’ve sent you a pm with the link to the edit.
