In an effort to keep us all sane and civil to one another can we please drop all references to PT in this thread. Let us talk about the glory that is The Empire Strikes Back.

Adywan, not sure if you saw this suggestion before... At the very end of the Luke vs Vader duel Vader's de-ignition of his lightsaber is not seen on screen and the sound of it is very subdued. Could you make the sound much more pronounced?

My two cents...

Not to mention there is that shot in the same scene where the saber looks way too short before he turns it off.

Hey Ady, I know you've done some work to try and help improve the realism of the Tauntauns. The other day I stumbled upon this video and was really impressed with the fluidity of his work. I decided to look around and found a video that explains some of his process. You can see here he uses a special plugin. Thought you might be interested. =)

hmmm, if there are larger star wars figures out there of a good enough quality, i wonder if this technology could be used to make extra snow troopers and stop motion battledroids?

I'd like to see a few snow speederbikes, I think you could pull those off in the distance with action figures.

I'm dying to write a rebuttal of Ady's prequel synopsis but I won't, unless someone else starts in. The accent complaint is something I've never heard before. Just because I disagree with him in certains ways, does not mean I don't like what he has done with ANHR and now ESBR.

^^ YES! I too am really looking forward to Ady's take on the Wampa. I'm wondering if the new wampa will be a cross between the other wampa designs or something a bit more out there?

Nice to hear that the wobble is gone! Sorry to hear it was such a task though. Also, I'm very glad to hear we'll be seeing a little saber glow on Luke.

"I am betting we see all the movies released on blu ray by the end of 2011, including the TPM with CG Yoda."

^^ Not to sound anti-GL, but I spent years hoping they'd get around to adding a CG Yoda into TpM but in the end all we got was another re-release with the same puppet and some teasing of a CG Yoda in the special features of RoTS (which I still don't get) Anyway - my point is I have almost NO hope GL or ILM will make any effort to improve Yoda's appearance...or a number of other issues in the Saga.

Sadly, there just aren't enough people like Ady out there who actually care enough to make these movies the best that they can be.

It was already said they replaced the TPM Yoda with the CG version, we can already see a short clip of it on the ROTS DVD, Pablo Hildalgo said in the SW insider it would be on a release someday but didn't know when, and I am betting it will be on the blu-ray set.

And to your comment "there just aren't enough people like Ady out there who actually care enough to make these movies the best that they can be"

The same goes for any movie ever made can have several things corrected, people aren't as obsessive compulsive as we are on films. Any film can be put thru the ringer and many things corrected in it technically. The film industry doesn't have endless non deadline times to work on things.

It's like with anything. I am sure there are people more obsessed with every detail in a Stephen King novel than Mr King was himself. Same goes for George Lucas and SW, he isn't as quite obsessive compusive with these films as we are. Same goes for just about any director and their films.

I didn't see this mention in Ady's list of to do things and I thought I'd mention it. There are still matte boxes around the spaceships in certain scenes, some were cleaned up for the DVDs some were not, like the establishing shot of The Executor and another SD moving beside it before Piett walks in on Vader unmasked.  You can see the matte box moving on the SD.

They already improved that scene a lot, originally it looked like Luke was a falling ghost, but with the SE they better color corrected him. Maybe a bit more could be done though.

well yeah, i noticed that too. i personally would like to see a PT that has been retrofied to have the same feel as the OT. not saying the PT was bad, just not the PT i wanted.

Retrofied? No Coruscant? It would never had the exact feel unless it was made and first watched by us around the time we watched to originals the first time.

We had a Tantive IV, Lars Homestead, Star Destroyer bridge and other things that look just like the OT, seriously what did you want? The prequels were set on mostly heavily populated planets, the OT was set on mostly low populated planets. 10,000 SW fans want the movies 10,000 of different ways, a movie can't be made custom for all.

did my opinion upset you or something? i loved coruscant.

I think the point ben_danger was making is that the PT doesn't have the same visual feel as the OT. Yes, part of that is due to having populated settings vs. unpopulated ones, but part of it too is that the PT seemed to be missing that used universe feel. I know their exist popular explanations for this (it was before the Empire, Naboo was a rich, artisitic planet, etc.), but when it comes right down to it, a lot of the environments in the PT didn't feel lived in like they did in the OT. I could believe Luke spent hours in his garage. I could believe Han and Chewie clocked hours upon hours in the Falcon. I could believe the rebel bases on Yavin and Hoth were working structures. Naboo, Kamino, and many parts of Coruscant, however, look pristine and unused, and hence unrealistic.

The PT weren't about smugglers and farmboys with piece of junk looking ships like the OT was. They made things look used in the PT when they were needed. Why would you want all the Naboo ships to looked scuffed up when they probably had not even yet been used anyway? I can point out a lot of things on Tatooine in the prequels that have scuffs and dirt, and wear on them. The main point, as I said was these enviroments (besides Tatooine) were not the same ones as in the OT therefore that would not be the same. They even had the same Lar's garage built for AOTC did you forget that? As I recall it didn't exactly look clean & pristine either. Naboo looked just as used as Italy does, would you really want it to be dirty everywhere? Kamino was supposed to be pristine. Why would you want senatorial offices on Coruscant to be dirty and used looking? Did you see the back streets behind the Nightclub scene (Zam interrogation), they were filthy. I think there is more wear and dirt in the prequels than you think.

The OT consisted of rebels on the run to mostly one climate low populated backwater planets. Hoth, Dagobah, Tatooine, Moon of Endor. Yavin IV., Pretty much Cloud City was most like the prequels.

Being there is about a 20 year gap between movies, it makes sense of the differences.

Yeah that squealing MOUSE droid running away fast after Chewbacca growls at it was more sophisticated than the childish slapstick and toilet humour we saw in the PT and ROTJ.

In what way? Admitedly TPM was overkill, but I don't see why ROTJ gets such a bad rap: it balances the darkness of the Emperor scenes with the lighthearted forest battles with the Ewoks. Remember that in ANH the main characters don't take their mortal danger very seriously, and the Storm Troopers have never been able to shoot anything except Uncle Lars and Aunt Beru, even when our heros are right in front of them and not even moving (Luke after Obi Wan dies). To be honest I think TESB is the anomoly here. Anyway, these movies aren't meant to be overly serious but instead a timeless mythology with special effects and child-like humour.

I think some people have huge adult egos that when anything slapstick or childlike, their "I'm an ADULT and too sophisticated to enjoy that" ego prevents them from liking it.

Than being said, if you added up all the slapsticky moments in TPM they would likely take up less than 2 minutes screentime.

i just can't wait to get my hands on those PT moies so i can rip them to shreds.

gawd you depress me so much when you say things like that. I love ANHR and ESBR seems to be right on track as far as quality and vision goes. Yet your vision of the pequels seems to be the same as everyone elses and that means gutting them. With everything you've said that you are taking out of the prequels there doesnt seem to be enough material left for one movie, let alone three. Im just sad I wont have a revisited prequel trilogy to go along with the OTR.

I somewhat agree on this, if you hate the prequels so much ady what will there be left to show when you're done with them? lol

My main gripe about the prequels wasn't the plot(which I like) nor the special effects(with some exeptions like the cartoony characters in the podrace for example) but it was the VOICES and poor delivery of the lines. While all of the voices in the OT where PERFECT(from James Earl jones to Harrison Ford and Ian McDiarmid and so on) the PT voices are horrible like Natalie Portman(especially in TPM), Hayden, Pernilla August, Jake Lloyd and even Christopher Lee and Frank Oz. The only good ones were Ian McDiarmid(except when he turns to The Emperor) and Liam Neeson.

So a REDUB of of these characters would be what would help this trilogy the most :) mesa thinks ;)

Christopher Lee was bad? Blasphemy!!!

Now who woulda thought ILM would've been that lazy? Thanx for that Angel. I really gotta start paying attention. I obviously have never noticed that before.

So to annoy you guys more, why does Ady want this scene removed from the Revist edits?:

It doesnt detract from the pacing of the film.

The main reason he is cutting that one is because he is reinstating the "Bring my shuttle" line which most people think is better. Vader's shuttle is already there. I have lobbied to either have the shuttle painted or cropped out. It's just a 3 second shot &  I don't believe it hurts pacing, but others disagree with me.

Sorry to hear about the tooth incident, Ady. I'm actually in the process of letting the hole heal up where a molar was extracted around a month ago. The tooth was broken (for a long time), but then got infected. That is a whole different kind of pain! The morning I picked up the antibiotics, I felt like just crying right there in the pharmacy. Oh, and I had to wait nine days before it could get pulled! Fortunately, it only took around five of those days for the antibiotics to kill the infection. :p

Anyway, I can't wait to see what you do with the PT. I'd almost prefer you start on TPM rather than Jedi once ESB is done. (I know I'm talking long term, but y'know...) As radical as some of the TPM edits have been, they haven't had the Adywan form of radicalness applied, and that's just massively intriguing.

But Ady needs to wait to do TPM because of the CG Yoda that was added to TPM that has yet to be released, if he goes ahead and does ROTJ revisited it will be the end of 2011 when he's done with it at the earliest. I am betting we see all the movies released on blu ray by the end of 2011, including the TPM with CG Yoda.

i'm going to maybe add a faint saber glow on lukes face only in a couple of closeups. the whole glow issue seems to have been overdone a bit in the PT but the bit where they swing the sabers around their heads in AOTC is going anyway so the other glows are so quick you hardly notice them anyway

R2's jets are also going in the PT so they won't be added in the OT. I hate all the bloody EU explanations for everything which is why all that crap is staying out of Revisited.

The rotating room is an interesting idea but just wouldn't work. i've been looking over that scene again and the scale of things is all messed up. the cloud car is too big when it reaches the building. either that or the lift on the side of the building is for midgets only. maybe it was the ugnaught only lift. lol. it does need a new matte. i was thinking about shrinking the window a bit but leia needs to be the focal point of that shot so that may not work. plus the window needs to be higher up on the building because the interior ceiling is too low down. Is it worth all the extra work to try and sort out the continuity mess though? i'm not so sure at the moment.

i won't be changing the way the xwing sets down on dagobah when yoda lifts it out the water. i've never had a problem with that scene.

The duels were short in AOTC and you are cutting them further? But who knows, we'll wait and see how it turns out! Were are probably at least 5 years from AOTC REVISITED being done.

As far as seeing the sabers illuminating, I think if that should be done for just the darkest scenes. Like in the Carbonite Freezing chamber room, being the darkest. No need to worry about laser bolts from the guns because those are mostly in well lit enviroments and they quickly go by, unlike the lightsabers which have a steady glow. It doesn't have to be perfect, but some illumination in those darkest scenes would be very effective. Maybe experiment with it, see what happens. Just a thought.

The still above is just before the switch to the other side view of the building on the left and we see Leia walking in the window, this is a moving shot so could we assume Leia's new building design is on the the other side of the left building which was originally supposed to be hers. It's all with keeping this shot of the fly thru, would hate to see it gone.

In short, this new more accurate building could be put next to the old one here, without changing the moving fly thru shots, I believe.
