Sure you are going to do something for that :D

I hope always with some more modern panels for the snow speeders.

Also i dont know if you noticed some jerky dusty edges in some particular scenes like this.

The most safe way to eliminate them is to zoom a bit...

Angel, you never cease to amaze me with your great ideas and great mock ups! And look at the matte lines on the AT AT legs on the bottom right.

Ady I was curious to what you are doing for the large building behind the Falcon's Cloud city platform? TI'm talking about the tall building seen immediately before the falcon lands in the SE flythrough. It looks like that building is on the far right of your screenshots showing the Falcon on the platform. It's cool if you found a way to move it and keep the fly through.

ady, a couple questions for ya:

1) how exactly did the added TIE fighter lasers cause problems in the asteroid chase sequence?

2) where'd you get the 2 "yes's" from for the Emperor's new dialogue? Sounds great.

As for the Star Destroyer bridge pit continuity issue, is it possible to simply "cut and paste" previous shots of the pit into other shots? If not, I'm happy thinking that maybe the consoles just pivot and can be moved around.

Yes, if he could just change/remove the Imperial officer leaning to look at the monitor with the sittinong officer that would help in variation.

These are my examples of how, if a certain building is re-used in same shots or different shots, it doesn't coincidently look exactly the same, differing window light patterns, not all the same lights are off or on. This breaks up the monotony and makes things not look so cloned. Something to consider. All 4 of these are different. This was quickly done to suit my point.

I don't mean to be a repeater but anyone agree with this post above I pasted from earlier?

check again because there is nothing wrong with them.

Few points i feel i must bring up is that the Hoth battle, the ATATs at the back look a little too fake, mostly due to lighting, i mean the front ones shadows are a light grey whereas the ones at the back are very dark.

actually the rear AT-AT's are the same as the front ones only timed different so they don't look the same. They have been brightened and have a black level of 16 instead of 0 like the front ones so the shadows on the rear ones are indeed lighter. Guess it must be an optical illusion or video set-up that's making them look darker to you.

I d love to keep the lasers that the TIES firing at MF at the asteroid chase( adds more color to the scene)

I was surprised at that too. Hope it makes it into the final cut, as I was really impressed with it.

sorry, but the lasers are gone for good. After i added them there was just something wrong with the sequence that i just couldn't put my finger on at first. it was the lasers. i tried removing them just from the shot where the TIE blows up but that didn't work so they had to go.

luke's lightsaber still seems to be transparent as i can still see vader's lightsaber in it.

not sure what you mean by the first thing because none of the sabers are transparent

I would ask that if you decide to remix the music... when you go to do that... maybe pen me a quick letter... there's a lot I can tell you about where to go to get what...and for what reasons. The SE will be your undoing if you simply cut and paste it into the film as it's horribly wrong.

i'll certainly be giving you a shout when i get to the audio side of things.

BarBar Jinkx said:

but there is one thing that stands out to me & unfortunatly it is something that I do not think that can be fixed

the glow of the sabers should be visible in his eyes

actually you wouldn't see the glow at all. the most you would see is a point of light. i may add the point of light but only if i can do it convincingly.

My question for Ady is how is he going to do officers pit part without it looking repeated? I see it's using the part from where Needa and the other guy are on the bridge when the falcon flies so close to the bridge. All those officers are posed the same way as in the earlier shot, so how is he going to stop it from looking like reused shot?

The star Wars films have many reused shots in it. In ANH there is the shot of Tarkin reused before the DS explodes, ESB its Leia on the command centre to name just 2.

Now the layout of the pits on the executor changes in ESB. Look at the shot at the end f the movie when Piette orders the officer to "ready the tractor beam". its actually the avenger bridge pit. no one seems to have been bothered by this before so i'm not too bothered about it now. And in ROTJ the bridge is completely different again.

vaderios said:

In fact... The buildings have the correct perpespective but it should have a blue shadow tint because of the sky reflection :)

you really do have a blue fetish don't you Angel. are you sure you didn't do the recolouring for the 2004 DVD's? lol

i'm not sure why the new fad is that everything outdoors in daylight has to have a blue tint to the shadowing. its a recent misconception and seems to be a rule with many CG & photoshop artists, which is one reason that a lot of CG looks fake. different lighting conditions & atmospherics are what affects the environment, the clouds in the new matte have a yellow tint because of the time of day so the buildings would also be affected by this.

Siliconmaster482 said:

Curiously Ady, why did you move Obi-Wan's head closer to the center?

well this was down to the new background. because i had made Obi-Wan more transparent, like he is in ROTJ, the background had an unwanted effect on Obi-Wan's face in his original position so moving him more to the centre showed off the transparency better without making his face look weird.

nice posters by the way savage and fredstar

in the asteriod chase the tie fighter on the far rigth, below the other 3 seems to jerk a bit.

vaderios said:

Also there is an FX glitch in the laser firing when the ties are hunting the MF in the new Star destroyer shot. ( when the up right TIE shoots near the end the laser isnt moving properly and overlap the tie itself. Its not ady's fault)

Ady, are you going to be working on the edges of the rebel ships in the hoth battle? They've got shadows around them.

Sluggo said:

Ady, could you look at the 'levatating' boxes and rocks on Dagobah? Most of the time, the effect works pretty well, but sometimes it seems more like props on string in some shots.

Also, the trick the stage hands used to lift R2 looks bad. It just looks like he is being lifted up by a platform on a jack. I guess I think it ought to look like everything is floating on a space station, just bobbing up and down and not so static.

So, no one else noticed the bad compositing/outlines of Lando, Leia and Chewie on the balcony? I'm sure it's ILM's fault and not Ady's, but is there any way to fix it? It sticks out.

these are all problems with the original elements. there isn't much i can do without having all the separate elements and re-composite them i'm afraid.as for vaders saber at least its not as thick as it is on the GOUT. my god that saber is like the ROTJ ones.

i've added annotations to the trailer in my youtube account so you can see what's changed while watching the video

Now Adys posted the trailer, its going to be quieter around here now hes making his props, so let him focus on the frustration of that insted of nit picking every frame of Empire that may add to his workload at the moment.

yes, now the trailer is done the video work has stopped. i'm now concentrating on the models and sets. i'm not too happy with the guy i purchased the Millennium Falcon model off ebay as i still haven't received the model. his first excuse was that he had been in hospital and was sending it out last Wednesday but after that he has stopped replying to my emails so i have had to raise a dispute. how the hell can it take so long for a model to get to me when its in the UK but others i have ordered since this one from around the world got to me in no time at all. not a happy chappy at the moment

Oh man, the old ebay seller "I was in the hospital." excuse. Even the ones with great feedback can go bad when they are going thru harder times.

A late Happy Birthday to you, Adywan!

In which currency would you like donations?

Great trailer! I seem to have missed the discussion of why the cityscape seen at the end of the corridor (when Luke had just landed on Cloud City) needed to be changed.

Is it just me, or ... does that Imperial Tech in the middle look a lot like Zachary Quinto? Coincidence?

My question for Ady is how is he going to do officers pit part without it looking repeated? I'll just say "No problem" for everyone. I love playing detective, and finding the right frames and what had been changed was fun! Glad I had the extra time to do it though, it did take a while.

EDIT: Don't want to make two posts in a row, so here's my mockup of the side view of the Emperor hologram:

I think that shows too much of his neck and chest area, which isn't seen in the face point of view.

One change I didn't get was removing the Ronto from the tail end of "Not the droids you're looking for." exchange scene. All the dialogue was done with, & it it was perfect the way the Stormtrooper stepped back to reveal the Ronto coming around the corner of the buildings. I understand why the probe droid was removed from the background during the exchange though.

this was discussed in this thread when i was working on this scene. the Ronto is not coming around the building at all. It is just stationary and appears from nowhere so stuck out like a sore thumb.

Hey I'm not making big ol' fuss, just merely commenting an opinion. It was a 3 second shot, not even enough to see if the Ronto was really moving or walking much anyway, as for it being out of nowhere, we didn't see that angle for a while before seeing it  then, so it could have been coming around the corner. You did what you did, I can live with it.

While we are talking about Vader's chestplate, while it's great to see the lights that Ady added I'm not sure if the right colour tones were used and they may require correction (the same goes for Artoo's light the blue light seems to be too green and not blue enough).

I would like to see the AOTC display lights added to the garage and (if the area appears in the film, which I'm not sure about) it would be nice if the family graveyard was put in as a little reminder of Anakin's mum and presumably his stepfather.

I thought those Lars garage lights were simply not on or burnt out. And there is no shot in ANH where you would see the tombstone where they were in AOTC, there is a wide shot next to the sandcrawler that comes close, but not quite.

They could easily use Jurassic Park's CG to make these whatever alien dinos.

If you look closely, even to Ady's R, version when luke says the javas to get away, see the dino in the back. In one part it pop ups of the ground because of bad tracking ;)

-Angel

I've read those Rontos were modified Brontos from Jurassic Park. I understand you guys saying Ady used GOUT or another source for the scene in question, but he could have cut between those shots scenes to keep that last Ronto. But what's done is done.
