Star Wars Galaxies controversy...
Time
So it continues, the dumbing down and doing the complete opposite of what the hardcore fanbase wants to appease the wider, more causal Star Wars fan.

It's the same thing with Viz DBZ Graphic Novel (if you're a Dragonball fan, you know what I mean). All these changes to make kids and parents happy, and the "reach a wider audience" thing again. Even though, I believe the hardcore fans are buying each and ever comic and DVD to have a complete series. How many parents are willing to buy, what, 291 episodes worth on DVD. And kids interest are always changing onto the next, new, latest ... AND BIG THING!!!

I'm afraid that's the trend, selling out creativity and integrity for the all mighty dollar. And who really knows if it'll even work in the long run.

GameFAQ Star Wars Poll

On a side note, today on the Jim Rome Show he quoted what Steven Spielberg said about the end of Star Wars,"I'll admit it, I cried at the end of Star Wars: ROTS."

Jim Rome's response was, "You might not want to admit that, Spielberg" and then added, "Although ... personally, I know a few people who cried at end of Star Wars ... they cried because they just paid $10.00 to see this peice of crap!"

Does he talk much of the speed racers in Jedi? I'd be kind of curious to know what he said about it.

A little off topic, but I've got this cool Empire sketchbook by Joe Johnston, Ralp McQuarrie & Nilo Rodis-Jamero. It's really amazing the amount of detail that goes into the sketches, and I'm sure research. I should scan a few and share them sometime.

And ... Hey! I liked "The Color of Money".

You know, I was thinking the other day, no one ever seems to talk about the music in the prequels. So I'm curious, do you at least like new music by John Williams, is it the only thing good about them? I don't really watch the first two, nothing really motivates me, but I did like the tune in PT where they fight Darth Maul. Nothing else really stands out at the moment, not saying it's bad, but I can't think of anything else I really liked.

It's official, George is really losing it (claims more changes to the OT to come...)
Time
I've always felt the prequels should of been what "Lord of the Rings" is. What made them great was story, there are other sides to making a film great, but the foundation was Tolkien's tale of adventure, and his characters.

George Lucas had how long to work on the prequels, to correct plot holes, bring in other writers to add to his ideas ... or come up with new ones, work on dialouge and interaction. I don't know, sometimes I just feel like the effort wasn't all there to really bang out the best possible story/screenplay. Especially if only George Lucas was working on the meat and potatoes of it all, which I believe is story. Two heads is better than one, and then some, by throwing out ideas and keeping/eliminating the things that do and don't work.

Call me crazy ... or naive, because I'm not in the know when it comes how things work in the film industry. But when did Lucas actually start to really work on the screenplay and story side of his prequels? A year or two before the release of PT (I seriously don't know)?

*edit*

By the way, what did you use to take that screenshot? I only use PowerDVD, but it doesn't look as clear, or as sharp.

Anyone Remember These Star Wars Commercials?
Time
Wow, you're a youngin'.

I was born in '76, and have trouble remembering Star Wars, of course, and Empire ... I was 4 years old. I only remember Jedi, really.

If I only knew how much Star Wars figures and their accessories would be worth now. How much were the figures back then, $1.75 maybe? I wonder how much the Millenium Falcon was back then. I remember the walkers from Empire, they were HUGE, and probably a pretty penny in those days.

*EDIT*
I don't know what's up with the first picture. It WAS working just fine ... maybe they don't want you linking to their site?

These are just a few original Star Wars commercials from the 70's-80's. I was a little too young to remember them, but they're still neat to see. I wish I could find more, actually. You can watch them streaming or download them.

By the way, the site has G.I. Joe, Transformers, He-Man, Thundercats ... it all takes me back.

Good times.

Can someone explain to me Star Wars: Galaxies?
Time
I think it'd be perfect to have GTA:SA's landscape, the mountains are a blast, and the sheer mass of it all, but with GTA: VC's theme. I pop in Vice, and the landscape is boring to ride around on compared to San Andreas, no hills, it's all flat.

I like the GTA games, but the targeting system still sucks after three tries, it seriously needs an overhaul. If any of you have played "The Warriors," they need add some of it into the GTA series: the fighting system, breaking into cars, smash and grabs, drug dealing. It all seems to fit into the theme of GTA. Also, using the ability to take cover from fire and return fire would also be nice, ala "Man Hunt".

With the next consoles right here, and around the corner, should be pretty fun to see what they come up with ... although, the series is getting a little old.

I use to think Natalie Portman was a bad actress/wooden when I saw the first two prequels (I hadn't seen here in much else before then). I've since changed my opinion seeing her in Closer, Garden State ... and a few other movies she was in, she's actually really good. I think you're only as good as what you have to work with. Lucas is a cheesy romantic, obviously ... and couldn't write his way out of wet paper bag. I put the blame on the dialogue itself, more than the actors.

Sometimes do you feel like you should give up on the cause?
Time
I'm afraid we're stuck in a sequel/prequel era where all original ideas have gone by the wayside and movie companies milk franchises for all they're worth. The true art of storytelling, and rather filmaking as an "art" altogether, is no longer relevant. Unfortunately, we take what we can get. All the studios want to see is the money. The numbers speak louder than a whole hill of criticism. The only way to plead with our film companies of making something that can actually be called "good" is to stop seeing what can only be referred to as "bad."

And this thread reminds me ... I need to get in contact with Rikter to get Cowclops LD transfers. I'm still on 56k, can't download them, $17.00 isn't bad, though.
