George Lucas says that the original versions of SW will probably be released on DVD
Time
10 million!

What exactlly does he need to do to remaster them, line the film with platinum and jewels? I don't know, that seems like a lot of money to clean them up, but what do I know. Maybe someone can shed some light on why he can't just remaster the parts that were cut, then re-edit them back into the film, replacing the Special Edtion scenes with the originals. It doesn't seem overly complicated, or all that exspensive, at least ... not $10 million dollars worth.

I'd be curious to see how much the 2004 trilogy on DVD made, total profits worldwide.

The Prequels - my personal opinion
Time
Well, if you mean "coming to their senses" by just excepting the films for what they are, fine. But if you think some miraculous epiphany has overcome Star Wars fans, thinking the prequels are wonderful films, well ... that's another story.

I liked episode III quite a bit, actually. The dialouge between Palpatine and Anakin, the conflict within Anakin being torn between the Republic and the Jedi Council, him thinking he's doing the right thing, and his love for Padme and wanting to save her life being the deciding factor. I thought it was all pulled off very well.

Anyway, I'm glad you like the film, Damon.

In the end that's all that matters, really. We can bitch, bitch and bitch some more, but the films are what they are. The debate seems never ending, get over it, and move on. Once people realize that, maybe we can all get back to enjoying Star Wars, fans of the orginals and prequels.

Most Powerful Quote in all the Star Wars films.
Time
"Mesa Jar-Jar Binks!"

No no ... Obviously, the line:

"No. I Am Your Father" is the most powerful line through out all of the Star Wars films.

Yoda: "Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter."

Luke: "All Right. I'll give it a try."

Yoda: "No! Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try."

Luke: I dont ... I don't believe it"

Yoda: "That is why you fail."

I don't know, there are so many.

Not the most convincing interview, but there is some hope we'll get nonrestored films ... yay. I don't know, with them not being restored, I can now pretend I'm back in '77, '80, and '83, I suppose.

Maybe I'm clueless, but over 90% of the original films have already been restored. Can't you just restore scenes that were taken out, then just re-edit them back into the original film? I don't get why it'd be so difficult.

I don't know, if they don't look any better than some of the projects going on ... I'm not going to be too motivatied to buy them.

Whatever, I'll guess we'll see what happens.

And isn't VHS pretty much obsolete, already. It's grainy, it's ugly, it wears out ... even Wal-Mart just announced they will no longer be getting VHS tapes in their stores. We have everything we need in DVD format, you can now even record right of the T.V. with DVD-RW/recorders.

Why Direct?
Time
I've never seen any information on why he directed, and untill I do, I guess I can only base my opinion I what I believe.

Someone with such a creative wit could never be stopped from exercising what they feel to believe their genious no matter how many people try to convince them they can't do it. Lucas established his influential powers early with the first Star Wars film and buddying up to other noted talents like Steven Spielberg. To do what Lucas wanted to do with Episodes I, II, and III, he strategically surrounded himself with a bunch of butt-kissing "yes" men. Those people gave him the liberty with 20th Century Fox he desired and was able to create a whole slew of crap without being hinged upon that was guaranteed success merely by name. He could have written the phonebook into either film, and they still would have grossed as well. They're "Star Wars" for crying out loud.

Discussion: Post your Star Wars Collection Pictures here - 56k warning tons of pics

That's what I was going to say, Darth Simon ... Is it REALLY necessary to quote someones photos.

Anyway, I was thinking of making a post like this, Rikter.

Pretty SWEET collection, guys. I only have a few Star Wars items now'a days, nothing really special other than my life size Bobba Fett ... and David Prowse autograph. Oh, and I got a tattoo of Boba Fett when I was in my early 20's, eh ... kind of regret that one. hah.

The term "Original Trilogy" has nothing to do within the time frames of the actual movies themselfs.

Well, when I say ORIGINAL trilogy, I'm mostly referring to the untouched versions of the film, no CGI and no added scenes, and there are three of them. They were the original trilogy, were they not? But the original trilogy doesn't exsist anymore, at least not on DVD, the Special Edtions do, however. Also, they WERE the original trilogy, based on the decade when they came out. I also sometimes call the prequels, "The New Trilogy" just based on the time period when they were released.

I'm not denying that there are now 6 episodes. I just think you guys misunderstoond my definition.

So why Define STAR WARS as OT OR PT?
Time
*EDIT*

Looks like Gaffer Tape already posted it. Just to make things clear, they are not ALL my opinions. They are also opinions and ideas I've collected over the years from Star Wars fans. I just happen to agree with them.

Tony, if you want my opinions on PT and AofC, go here:

http://www.originaltrilogy.com/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=2&threadid=987&STARTPAGE=24

People are now labeled "fan-boys" if they have an opinion on the prequels, and simply don't like them as films. Just like you're flooding us with your opinions, we do have our own. It's just that some people are over it already, like myself. This is all I'm going to say about it, quite honesly I'm sick of this prequels V.S. orignals debate, or how people would improve/do things different etc. etc. It just gets very old and tiresome.

Well, it's a tricky matter, you add too much music to a scene and it can take away, or vice versa. Take away the Jaws theme music, then you're left with an empty scene, use it too much and it looses its effectiveness.

Or for example, I'm a big fan of the Japanese version of DBZ, but the American dub has taken away some of the drama by playing music NONSTOP. Tense stare downs, where you hear only the russle of wind in the background, are now replaced and dimnished by nonstop synthesizers playing in the background, loosing the intense build up before a battle.

You have to find a happy balance.

I think the Star Wars music is just fine. John Williams in a friggin' genious.

I guess I'm not undersntading your point, here.

I define "The Orginal Trilogy" as just that, no CGI or added anything, 1977, 1980, and 1983. They were the orginal stories George Lucas came up with beofre the prequels. The prequels were nothing more than a ruff draft at the time, mostly just in the mind of George Lucas, nothing really on paper, not even a script. And from my understanding, the episode numbers weren't added till later.
