STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I'm sure you've seen one of the snippet Darth Editous put up way back when for the Cloud City duel matte painting. The one with the establishing shot of the control room hanging over the pit (sorry, I don't know what this is called). Anyway, in the movie as is a matte painting was used with some added blinking lights. As the camera zooms in, there is no obvious perspective to the shot. It looks like someone's just zooming in on a painting. DE reworked it a bit and gave some perspective to the existing painting. I'll try to find that link in DE's thread...

edit: Ah, yes. It's the weather vane. That's what it's called. Oh well, the link is dead anyway and Ady commented on it so is aware of it's existence, so there you go.

Yeah, to make the static more of an issue, that line about 'moving the fleet so we can send a clear transmission' could be replaced. Dig this:

PIETT: The Emperor commands you make contact with him.

VADER: Ok.

Or in keeping with the PT dialog standards:

PIETT: The Emperor commands you make contact with him.

VADER: Okee-Dokee.

Darth Stewie,

Your idea certainly has merit and I know a few posters here would like to see the second Death Star incorporated into ESBR, but I'm not of that ilk. I am very much pro-keeping each DS in their respective films. I don't think the 'skeletal' DS should even be in ROTS. In the shot as is (In ROTS) there's no real perspective as to what Vader/Palpatine are even looking at so to me it serves no real purpose to even be included aside from a ham-fisted attempt to bridge III and IV. Once ANH rolls around, the viewer could put one and one together to get two, but the DS was already alluded to in AOTC and that seems enough to me.

As far as incorporation of DSII into ESB, I think it'd be more of the same unnecessary FX and introduction of a new weapon best left to the movie in which it's actually used. I do like allusion in general in serials such as Star Wars, but limited to off-hand comments by characters which we then get to actually see in a future chapter.

Skipping to ROTJ, the audience gets a nice reveal of a new, partially completed DS in the opening scene after being told of its existence in the opening crawl. After seeing what the first DS could do in ANH, the viewer can sense a definite ominous presence to the new DS. I would actually like to see a more elaborate reveal of the Death Star II in ROTJ to give it a bigger sense of scale. I don't know how this would be possible, but it's one of the things that I think could be done better in the film (that and the horrible explosion of Executor into the DSII's surface at the end. Could that shot look more like a model and not a frickin' huge spaceship?).

I'm also not a huge fan of post-credits bonus scenes. If the shot's integral to the story, leave it in the film. If it's not, leave it on the cutting room floor or in the deleted scenes section of the DVD.

But, to each his own. My taste for film as well as my taste for Star Wars continually changes and who knows how I'll feel about all this years from now.

Good ideas, though. This is what makes the ot.com such a great place to hear others' views and get their input on what they like, hate, or want to see in the films we love. It's also why it's impossible to please everyone since our tastes can vary so much.

Lookin' good, Ady.

Look! C3PO's not green anymore!

This will look fantastic just as ANHR does. The only fault I notice from being used to the '04 DVDs is the sky being less saturated, but the first pass does indeed look more like I think it should. Also, R2's dome loses some of its luster by taking out some of the blue, but not bad at all. At least the Falcon isn't blue and 3PO isn't green!

I'm thinking this whole "No really, I'm taking a break." has been a smokescreen from the beginning! :)

I don't know if this was ever addressed, but if it has, I've forgotten it already. Damn aging mind of mine.

What was the source of Luke's "Biggs! Biggs!" line during the Death Star battle? I'm assuming this is a new recording, and if so, who's the voice actor? It' sounds pretty much just like Mark Hamill after all.

Any collectors out there with 35mm archival prints from the original release? ;)

Seriously, I've got some first release Betamax copies lying around my folks' house. I could dig them out if you'd like. That is if you happen to have an NTSC Betamax unit to play them....

Ady did hold a conference on MSN for a few selected people last year for the Ep IV revisit.

I forgot all about that. I wasn't able to make it the last time, but did get the transcript as well as he clip he provided at the time. Good stuff, and I would imagine, helpful in the long run.

I'd love to get a bunch of us together on a conference call or rent out a ballroom at the airport Hilton or something and get a roundtable going on about likes/dislikes of the OT and PT. That would prove interesting and probably would've helped Lucas punch out a fine PT if he had accepted that kind of fan input from day one. He could take it or leave it, but at least he'd know the pulse of the Star Wars fan community, a perspective he lacks (or lacked).

I've been a proponent of axing Boba from ROTJ for quite some time. His presence does help give closure to the Han/Jabba/Boba angle, but leaves a cool-looking and engaging character (due mostly to the mystery and costume) an unsatisfactory demise. Of course, in the context of his 'father' Jango's rather quick demise I guess it works. They're both arrogant and get what's coming to them as a result. And, Han gets a small bit of revenge even if by accident.

I thought AOTC would've fared better with Boba being the main bounty hunter. No Jango, just Bob A. Fett. Up until AOTC there was no canonical story of Boba's origins. Is he human, alien, robot, what? It would have been nice to continue the mystery. Have him show up, kick ass, win, and leave; not to be seen again until ESB. Then, when the audience sees him again in ESB, there would be this realization that this guy's a badass and our heroes are in real trouble now. Boba then goes on to win and exit stage right yet again. Not appearing in ROTJ would leave more storylines open for him post-ROTJ (even though I fully realize he technically 'escaped' the Sarlacc in the EU). Star Wars is populated by species who live for hundreds, if not thousands, of years. Age shouldn't be a concern between the two time periods.

We could then be relieved of yet another "Star Wars Babies" storyline George seemed to love so much in the PT. (Nine year old Anakin? Nine year old Boba? Yoda with more hair and a "younger" appearance even though he's still over 800 years old? How much older could a being look between 860 and 900?)

But I digress. I'm very much pleased with the direction so far of ESBR. Restoring the original Boba's voice will be most welcome.

has anyone burned this successfully with a program other than Imgburn?

As I've said a few times, DiscJuggler worked fine for me with the existing non-fixed .iso. The media I used was in fact a 2.4x Memorex DVD+R DL. But now I've finally exhausted my supply of those, so the next discs to get will be Verbatim, the People's Choice in DVD+R DL. :)

The iso was in efect corrupt. It wouldn't matter what program you used....

Prior to the fix, it must have mattered what program was used. I did not do anything aside from unpacking the iso and burning it with a program other than imgburn and the DVD burned and played just fine for me.

Are we supposed to unpack the ISO with WINRAR before burning? Then follow the directions listed below? Please, if anyone successfully burned NTSC DVD-9, please post the directions you used. Thanks.

edit: I may have misunderstood your question. Do NOT run the .iso through winrar. Only use winrar to unpack the .rar files into the big .iso. Then burn as above.

From what I'm understanding from the posts prior to this, imgburn is what's having issues with burning this iso. Following Ady's fix may repair the .iso to one compatible with imgburn.

Alternatively, one could use DiscJuggler (padus.com). This is the program I use for any .iso's I need to burn. Unfortunately, the program costs $50 to enable full length DVD burning. As I said before, I made two copies of the NTSC DVD-9 yesterday without issue using this program.

Also, any edition of nero (nero.com) should be able to burn a .iso easily. They have a 15 day free trial set up, although I think most PC users would have a copy of the program floating around somewhere (It used to be included with most RW drives a while back). Here's a tutorial for nero:

http://wizardskeep.org/mainhall/tutor/neroiso.html

It's for an older version, but should work similarly on anything up through v.8

And, oh yeah, Happy Birthday Ady! How's the near vision doing? Need any bifocals yet? :)

I burned the NTSC DVD-9 (pre-fix) yesterday with Padus DiscJuggler with no issues whatsoever (in fact, I burned off two copies with no errors). Layer change occurs after Tarkin says "Terminate her immediately." No apparent issues. I did notice an audible 'hum' that went in and out in the background of the Obi-Wan's house scene while watching yesterday, but that may be do to my receiver and speaker set-up since I was tweaking it most of the night.

Thanks for the suggestions, but I'm never buying Epson again. I had an Epson a couple years ago and it was bar none the worst printer I have ever owned!

Well it looks like it would make more financial sense for me just to burn as usual and use labels. I have labeled tons of discs (CD and DVD - mostly Memorex, Taiyo Yuden, and Fuji) and haven't had any issues to this point. Of course, now that I've said that, every labeled disc I own will disintegrate! :)

Since last year though, I've been mainly burning labels onto Lightscribe media. If only they made Lightscribe DVD+R DL discs...

Has anyone had issues with Verbatim discs and sticky labels?

...your cover in its retro-ness works perfectly for me. The logo seems both different and graceful.

Thanks for the compliment; that is exactly why I chose the logo. I was getting a little tired of re-using the same Star Wars movie-style logo and felt it needed a change for this edit. I wouldn't say it's been a knock-down drag-out fight over the retro logo, but some have voiced their preference to the classic logo, which is understandable.

Not at all. Everything's pretty much fair game in this community. As long as no one rips off someone else's work and then tries to pass it off as their own, I'm good.

I'd be interested to see what you came up with. I'm guessing it's a logo change as that seems to be the one major point people take with my cover. PM me when you get a chance.

The cover I created oh so long ago was made as a "catch-all" cover. It's not made specifically for any one version, nor is it for PAL or NTSC. I specifically made it this way so as to encompass all available versions. That's part of the reason no special features list is included. Hell, I guess if someone preferred the spine, cover, or logo of someone else's work, it'd be an easy fix to paste those over my version, making that cover not locked down to any one version. (Not that I want anyone to do this and upload it. It's just a suggestion as a quick photoshop edit for those who have one or more different covers.)

And, Ady's cover will trump us all anyway, so the point may be moot. :)
