Lost Original Trilogy footage... at blueharvest.net
Time
Too bad the "lost cut" will never be released unless someone breaks into the "Ranch" and steals it from there. I wouldn't mind taking a look at it, if only to see that repulsive scene of Han Solo making it out with a sleazy space hooker...

Anyway, the Prowse, the Prowse! Why isn't any "lost footage" site mentioning the original dialogue track with Prowse's very own goofy "Vader voice" (and the "Obi Wan killed your father" line...)? I want to hear it...

With all the fan edits and remasters, we now only need a fan remastering of that horrible "Turkish Star Wars" travesty ...

(If I just gave someone an idea, for the love of God, DON'T... I've only seen snippets of this, and I'd rather watch a two hour footage of Ahmed Best, Hayden Christensen and Jake Lloyd making fart noises with their armpits and stupidly giggling "Peeyoosa!" at one another. Calling that "film" horrible would be glorifying it...)

Can you describe the version you have? I know the one I've got on DVD-R isn't the "Angrysun" thing Rikter has, so I wonder if it's the same... I would post a screenshot of mine, but my crappy old DVD-ROM doesn't read DVD-Rs... Anyway, here are some characteristics of mine:

- it starts with R/G/B bars visible for about 1/3 second; then, after about two seconds of blackness, the Falcon blasting off into space, with some visible distortion and a few seconds of "wobbling" sound. A huge video player PLAY is visible and disappears as Chewie starts roaring.

- when the transvestite robot cook is shown in closeup, "her" dress is pink; when it's smaller, it looks washed out and is rather like pale violet.

- in the virual porn sequence, just before the naked "angel" sings "How can we lose this minute", or something like that, the zoomed image of her face sort of jumps-jumps-jumps, like a game with very low framerate... I don't know if it's this transfer, or something intentional?

- the "radioactive" instruments held by the gay rock band that the Imperial officer watches are very blurred in many shots and look more like bright pink blobs.

- when the beatnik band plays and one of the Stormtroopers elbows another, a white line "cuts" them for about a second.

- when the dolt pretending to be Tarkin-lite announces a curfew, the picture goes to hell for about a second; there's noise, lines, his face becomes a red blob. It returns to normal as he says "all inhabitants".

- it ends with 20th Century Fox TV logo

Where did the rumor of Kevin Smith being the author of the "MagnoliaFan" edits originate, and how? Is there anything supporting this idea, or is it just a wild guess? (And are they named "MagnoliaFan" because KS is the suspected creator, or is that name the reason why he is the suspect?) Seriously, I wonder if there is any shred of a proof or clue that KS did these, since I really doubt he'd risk colossal fines and possible imprisonment...

Stupidest Prequal complaints
Time
"Too much politics" and "not enough action" are the two dumbest complaints that annoy me the most. "Too much politics", perhaps - if you are an imbecile with the brain and attention span of a below-average 5 year old kid. "Not enough action" - if you want to watch a bunch of ruffians beating one another's faces for two hours, watch a Michael Bay, Ronny Yu or John Woo flick... sheesh.

However, it should be pointed out that the worst and stupidest complaints certainly do not come from "fanboys" but from the indifferent crowd, often quite ignorant as far as the SW universe is concerned.

Of course, as far as AotC goes, I find defending it considerably more difficult, because it's so much worse than TPM (and, hopefully, Ep. III - although if the idiotic rumors of Palpatine actually becoming a pathetic clown who physically fights with a saber are true, then I'm losing hope).

Info: OT Bootleg DVDs
Time
A few weeks ago, when visiting a local electronics flea market, I peeked at the stands with the, ahem, "unofficial" DVDs, etc., and, to my surprise, saw the SW trilogy on a single, DVD-9 (pressed), with a hologram on cover (!)... as it turned out, most pirates had them. I got them from the first one who had them, and he assured me these were the original versions, not the SEs. The disc cost the same as all pressed pirate DVDs with new films cost there, which is about the equivalent of 5 USD, but in case anyone comes across it anywhere, even for 1 cent or the equivalent in any currency... STAY AWAY. Not only are these *not* the original versions, but - even though they're anamorphic widescreen, in Dolby Digital 5.1, all text in the films - including the crawls and even the titles - is in, of all things - ugh! - German. Yuk! Horrible. I wanted to throw the thing away, but ended up giving the disc to my nephew.

Here's what it looks like, so that you know what to avoid - the cover says "3 in 1 - Star Wars Trilogy" - and has Vader's mask on a golden background, with a hologram in the corner. The disc itself says "Star Wars" and has Luke, Han and Leia, with Vader and others in the background. Amusingly enough, it bears the standard "unauthorised copying prohibited" line around the edge. It's R0, PAL, and it's crap.
