Plot holes in the SW saga
Time
"Can you believe, I invited a couple of girls back to mine one night with my mate, thought I was getting somewhere, which I wasn't(Been there already, she was'nt too impressed the first time).....and they fucking leave and stole my lightsaber..."

Sorry if this sounds cynical, but I don't know if replica lightsabers are the best things to have lying around if you are trying to impress a girl...

"and also, in ESB, the empire saw that the millenium falcon was heading for bespin because they put a tracker on it. but when leia, lando and chewie escape they don't remove it (as far as I know) so the empire should have found them again after a while."

I know this was posted a while back, but here's a possible explanation anyway: The tracking beacon was being tracked by a specific tracking device which was on the Death Star. When the DS was destroyed, so was the device. OR they removed it after they landed. The whole tracking device thing is a bit stupid really, Leia KNEW they were being tracked but decided to lead the Empire straight to the rebel base anyway?!? Couldn't the have landed somewhere else and changed ships, or searched for the device and removed it, or rendevoused (sp?) with another rebel ship and transferred the plans to them and led the Imperials off in the wrong direction?!?

Ewok feature film bootlegs ('Caravan Of Courage' & 'Battle For Endor')
Time
I saw a movie called "Caravan of Courage" many, many years ago. In fact the title is about the only thing I can remember about it. Is that one of the films you're talking about? From memory (which as I said is vague at best) it was really a childrens film, and the "human" characters were adolescents. I wouldn't mind seeing bits of it again though, just for old times sake.

Star Wars...The TV series!!

Ricarleitte, if you have ever played the PC game "Xwing Alliance", the back story to that is the sort of thing I mean. I get what you're saying about it becoming a parody, but of it wasn't set during the movies it wouldn't really be Star Wars, at least to me... it would have to have Imperials in it I think. So even the prequels are out; but again, this is just what I personally would wan to see.

Okay, what did we LIKE about the Special Editions?
Time
"I believe that many people who are going to buy the sets don't even recall the original theatrical cuts."

I agree, many people may not. But I still think many others will. Mind, I am not saying the majority, or even a large percentage, but I think there will be more refunds than if it had been the OT, which will be what many are expecting. Anyway I could be wrong, it's jut a thought I had. Don't know if there will be any statistics released on such a thing so maybe we will never know.

George Lucas' explanation why the OT is obsolete to him

Crap works better, because you can put a little salt on a meal and it is still edible. But if you put even the tiniest little bit of "poop" (as you Americans call it) on a meal it is inconceivable that you would touch it with a barge pole. That's how I feel about the SE personally. I don't want to see even the shortest bit of new footage, I want it as it was. Now I know some people might think, surely 10 seconds of footage doesn't make any difference? But it's the fact that it's there, when it doesn't need to be. If it aint broke - don't fix it. IMO Star Wars aint broke. Maybe others feel differently.

What is wrong with Return of the Jedi?
Time
There is an episode that explains that fact. But this is a SW site, not ST so I won't bore you all with the details.

BTW HHG is -not- silly. Maybe you were talking about the TV series, which I agree was rather silly in places, but the book is pure brilliance. The way Douglas Adams could come up with a theory to prove that a spaceship could be powered by an italian resteraunt (if I recall correctly) that was thouroughly absurd, completely logical and utterly hilarious all at the same time... such a shame that he went before his time.

"I get the feeling there will be many sets on eBay."

Agreed, definitely. I really think that many, many people who buy/order the DVD's will assume they are the OT's. And when they discover they're not they won't want them much anymore. I think this would apply more to people who buy lots of DVD's more than fans, as most fans will know about the changes.

BOYCOTT (the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
"Man, if feels like we are fighting the empire!!!! What do you all think?"

I think I would rather watch my VCR version than something that has been messed with. So whether it has any effect or not I won't even buy the ultimate/special edition. For me it's more a principal thing than a protest thing, though it would be great if it did have an effect. I think the petition could have a real effect, but I don't think a boycott would be noticed to be honest. I will be interested to see if many people try to get a refund once they realise it is not the OT though. If you look on the official site they are promoting it as if it is the OT.

As for LOTR: I did know that stuff about the alterations, and the fact the Tolkien was extremely fussy about the "Elfs" and "Elves" stuff (which I thought was wonderful, I love slightly eccentric stuff like that). Actually it is about all I know, since I only got to read the introduction/prologue and half the first chapter before my copy was ruined

Sequel Trilogy? Say it's so!

"I know that will eventually happen just because of this site and fan complaints alone, but I do agree with the opinion, why make us wait?"

Actually I don't even mind the wait. The longer you wait for something the more you appreciate it. But the fact that he keeps saying it will NEVER happen is what angers me. I really do hope you guys are right, and he's just messign with our heads, or it's a marketing game or whatever... but i dunno...

Star Wars...The TV series!!
Time
If there was going to be a TV series, I would like to see it set in the period of ANH and ESB. As someone already suggested, it could focus on a family or group of families living in on near the outer rim (so they have no/minimal involvement with any of the characters or events from the movies) inside Imperial space, commanded by an ambitious Imperial officer. At the beginning it could follow how this group begins to recognise the true nature of the Empire, makes contact with the rebels, some decide to join the rebellion, some stay neutral etc. I think this idea could have alot of potential, but would be very surprised if it turned out well. I just can't envision it. But I would be over the moon if it did.
