Did George Lucas take too much credit?
Time
In Hollywood, IDEAS are a dime a dozen, and it's the EXECUTION of those ideas, by a director, screenwriter, actors, cinematographer, cameramen, etc. that is the important factor. Lucas writes like a 4-year old and the only reason we're even having this conversation is because somehow he swindled the rights away from the studios.

If Lucas did not own the rights to the OT, he'd be way, way, way down the pecking order in terms of importance, somewhere between the gaffer and best boy.

OT.com is so loved....

What I want to know, is why is it automatically BAD to not like the Prequels, or the SE/2004 revisions of the OT?

I'm a movie fan, and my opinion is that these suck hard, but stating the opinion brands you as some sort of heretic from the Lucas faithful. It's quite amusing when these same people try and brand me as a fanboy. It's like they never look in the mirror or read what they post.

Stating a SW movie sucks does not mean the comment is wrong, or that the person who loves it is right.

Lucas fanboys, repeat that 10 times.

Changes in 2004 DVDs

Yeah Jimbo, inserting a younger Anakin would have made more sense... in your warped little universe where if Lucas digitally replaced Chewie with Jar Jar in the OT, you and your freaky little fanboys would conjure up some bizarre and illogical reason why it makes sense.

Jesus H Jimbo, do you not have a thought process that isn't controlled by Lucas?

Info Wanted: Which OT DVD Preservation Has the Best Video Quality?
Time
I'm looking at the Farsight Anamorphic edition of Star Wars right now, on a 21" LCD and it looks much better in terms of pixelization, with very little evident compared to the TR47 edition. Of course, this also looks to have a "softness" like that found on other anamorphic transfers...

I hate pixelization and would take image softness over it any day, so unless the TV performance differs greatly from my LCD viewing experience, the the Farsight edition looks like the best one I've viewed in terms of VIDEO quality.

What I don't get is that the TR47 states it has 2-4 Mbps (higher-end PCM audio), the Farsignt Ana has 4.5 Mbps (192 kbps AC3), while the new ISOMIX Ana edition states 5-8 Mbps and DUAL 448 Kbps audio tracks.

Are these ISOMIX specs whacked, or is there some uber-compression going on?

Info Wanted: Which OT DVD Preservation Has the Best Video Quality?
Time

I currently have the TR47 versions, and find that pixelization is a real issue, and am currently DL’ing the Farsight Animorphic set, and hope for a bit tighter quality due to the higher bitrate. I also may check out the new ISOMIX depending on how the 16x9 squish image quality of the FS Ani DVDRs looks on the 32" Wega.

I appreciate audio, but I’m much more of a visual fan, so if anyone could point me to the best visual representation of the OT, I’d appreciate it. I have many different TVs (HD and standard) so the actual base WS/ani format isn’t important, just the IQ.

Thanks!

Info Wanted: The laserdiscs vs. The best bootlegs

Compare that scene with the one from the 2004 DVD´s and your jaw will drop! It´s like night and day.

Sure, but then you have to put up with the mind-numbing story and character changes that Senile George has made, not only in the SE, but in the horrific SSE 2004 edition.

I'm a movie fan first and foremost, so I'd easily trade off some image quality, in return for the original, high-paced, consistent FX movies.

The intelligence of SW Fan boys....
Time
Sure, there are a lot of geeks, but FANBOY is a very specific term applying to an almost religious adulation of a CURRENT pop culture phenomenon. You follow the subculture, toe the company line, support the new media such as movies, books, games, etc., all while keeping the basic mantra of the Star Wars Fanboy:

Lucas is creating his vision!

If you're against the Special Editions, the Prequels and/or the 2004 SSE DVDs, then by definition you are not a Star Wars or Lucas fanboy.. more like a born-again Anti-Fanboy.

Which is very erroneous, but once again--most fanboys don't really WANT to know what they're talking about. They have more fun trading ignorant statements

You're really full of yourself aren't you pinbrain.

Now you REALLY don't believe the BS you just spouted about Lucas writing and directing all three movies, now do you? If so, then you should really do more research into the contributions of others (not even noted on the credits) and exactly what "Lucas direction" really is.

If you had a clue, you'd know that Lucas CANNOT write a screenplay to save his life. Everyone involved in the film industry knows this, just as they know that Star Wars was directed by committee, with Lucas calling in tons of favors from talented friends and cohorts. To say he directed and wrote ESB is a real joke, and you should be publicly flailed for even uttering this Lucas-Loving Fanboy crap.

So before spouting more GROSS INACCURACIES and TOTAL BULLSHIT on here, please do some research, talk to industry people, and even do some reading.

The above fanboy makes gross generalisations about fans of Star Wars. The above fanboy ignores the fact that many members here are involved in film to some degree or another and are horrified by revisions that cancel out the work of creative artisans and actors not to mention changes that serve to alter narrative and character. The above fanboy ignores the main cause of this campaign which is to preserve film history.

Well said, Regicidal, well said.

I really have no idea what these Lucas Loving Fanboys have against releasing the Original Trilogy Theatrical Version?

Are they afraid that fans, if given the choice, will flock to the superior OT over the crappy SSE 2004 drek? Or are the brain-dead Fanboys so enamored with Lucas that they adhere to a "it's his way or the highway" mentality, and kiss their Jar Jar doll every morning?

Info: OT Bootleg DVDs

And you guys laughed when I brought up the Ted Turner colorized classics....

The 2004 SSE versions exhibit colors that NEVER existed in real life, and never will no matter how many times Georgie Porgy changes his mind.

In my opinion, there is no reason to watch the horrible Prequels if you haven't first seen the Original Trilogy. After all, they're not movies, but an extended 6-hour backstory for Darth Vader, with virtually no plot, revelations or excitement.

If you don't know who Darth Vader is, why would you care?
