The "EditDroid" Trilogy DVD Info and Feedback Thread (Released)
Time
For those who have acquired the EditDroid ESB and Jedi...

When you play the disc(s), does the movie start right away without going to the main menu first? My Star Wars starts with the menu, but ESB and Jedi start with the movie. Just wondering if it's a problem or if the DVDs were just authored that way.

Still, great transfers and presentation!

Just viewed the Mysterious Mysteries "A New Hope." It may not have the PCM audio of the TR47 version or the commentary and anamorphic widescreen of Dr. Gonzo's version, but the overall presentation, isolated music score, and extra goodies bring this disc to the top of my list of single layered favorites. The picture quality is right up there with the TR47 version, too. It makes me more excited that others on this board are going to do even better!

I hope you'll all excuse the n00b question, but after much lurking, reading and LOTS of d/l'ding, I have found myself more pleased with the visual quality of the Farsight transfer (which I know makes me a bit of an oddity).

As I recall the only true defect is the missing Leai welding scene.

Can anyone give me specifics as to WHAT that scene is, about how long, and maybe a time-frame in the movie? I'd like to see it for myself to decide how important it is to me (I have the TR47 version as well, just don't want to sit through the whole film to find the scene not knowing what I'm looking for.)...

The scene is at about 50 min and 30 seconds into the movie. It's only about 3 seconds of Leia welding after Han tells Chewie, "I think we'd better replace the negative power coupling." If you have the TR47 version with no title menu screen, the scene comes right after a 3 second portion of blank screen. If the version you have has a title menu screen that says, "The Original Theatrical Version," there is no 3 seconds of blank screen.

It's the droids on "Sesame Street"...now I was 7 when Star Wars came out so I had moved on to "The Electric Company" by then, but does anyone have this or know where to direct me to find it? For nostalgia's sake.

I've got it, Darth. The quality is just OK, but it's great for the nostalgia. All of the scenes are basically raw takes of the droids segments filmed in 1979 and shown in 1980 after TESB was released. I'm considering adding a clip from it to my TESB supplements disc. If you or anyone else is interested in it, just PM me.

Nope. The TOD doc was never released to video. I recorded it in the 80's, too (on Betamax no less), but the tape is pretty much shot now. Any chance I can get a copy from you, Silverwook? PM me (That's PRIVATE MESSAGE, Red2 ) if possible. Thanks.

Info Wanted: 'Troops' on the Total Movie DVD

It's excecution is just not as good. RowMan's audio just sounded positively awesome at 384 kbits as opposed to the 196 of the Total Movie, not to mention the original song. I lifted that and synched it to the total movie video, and for me it's a perfect way of watching Troops...

My version of TROOPS not only has the original Bad Boys theme, but also the mixed in Star Wars sound effects that go with the video of the title sequence like stormtrooper cross-talk and blaster sounds.

Info Wanted: What other LDs are you all transferring?

Doing a transfer of Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind is a great idea! RowMan, will you use seamless branching to offer both the theatrical cut and the special edition of CE3K on your DVD? The existing DVD has a new (and better, imho) cut of this movie. Also you should consider transferring the extras of the Criterion LD too, a lot of them aren't on the commercial DVD.

Well, with my skill level, equipment, and expertise I'll just be doing the original theatrical on one disc and the extras on the other.

Info Wanted: Bonus Material not offered by the major bootleggers

...Also, one other question about your four disc set that TR47 is offering in his 7 disc set: one of the discs is identical to the 4th disc in TR47's 4 disc set, right? Otherwise there would be 8 discs. I'm I right on this or just very confused? I understood the 4th TR47 disc to be the Definitive Collection bonus material, and the other 3 discs in the 7 disc set to be additional bonus material. If I'm wrong about this I'd appreciate you clearing that up. Thanks.

It's not the same, but similiar. I made 4 bonus discs specifically to compliment the TR47 trilogy. My fourth bonus disc differs from the one TR47 was originally distributing (but he has it now). His original supplemental fourth disc was meant to go with the Dr. Gonzo trilogy that has the commentary track included on the movie discs. This bonus disc included 9 trailers for all three films and all of the supplementary material from the Definitive Collection.

MY fourth disc has the same material, but omits the 9 trailers (as there 14 on my other 3 discs) and includes all of the commentary scenes from all three films that the TR47 trilogy did not include.

Here's the detailed list:

Disc 1 - Star Wars Bonus Material:
-The Making of Star Wars (1977) 50 min.
-4 SW trailers
-"The Moments We'll Always Remember" (30 sec. The Simpsons promo. Bart blows up the Death Star)
-2 deleted Biggs scenes
-Alternate Cantina scene
-3 original audition clips from 1975 featuring Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford
-Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia on Saturday Night Live clip (1978)
-TROOPS (featuring the original "Bad Boys" theme that is not on the Total Movie DVD)
-"That 70's Show" Star Wars episode

Disc 2 - The Empire Strikes Back Bonus Material:
-SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) 50 min.
-4 TESB trailers
-Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Billie Dee Williams interviews (1980)
-Underoos TV Commercial featuring Boba Fett 30 sec.
-THX demonstration short, "WOW!"
-THX sound editing demonstration short, "Soundtrack!"

Disc 3 - Return of the Jedi Bonus Material:
-Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi (1983) 50 min.
-From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga (1983) 65 min.
-6 ROTJ Trailers (including 2 for "Revenge of the Jedi")

Disc 4 - The Definitive Collection Archive
(All of the supplementary material from the Definitive laserdiscs)
- "War Stories" an interview with the saga creator, George Lucas
- "Sound Advice" an interview with sound designer, Ben Burtt
- "The ABC's of Jedi Effects" an interview with effects supervisor, Dennis Muren
- A guided tour through the Lucasfilm Archives
- "How the Walkers Walk" time-lapse presentation narrated by Dennis Muren
- "A Flight through the Asteroids" story boards to final shot comparison
- Return of the Jedi Videomatics, narrated by Ken Ralston
- The Max Rebo Band's "Lapti Nek" music video
- Concept art slideshow narrated by artist Ralph McQuarrie
- Over fifty scenes from the trilogy with audio commentary by George Lucas, Dennis Muren, Ken Ralston, Ralph McQuarrie, Ben Burtt, and Frank Oz
- Hundreds of behind the scenes and special effects production stills from all three films

Disc 5 - The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978)
GUARANTEED to be the best copy you'll ever see. It was mastered from an original (and WELL PRESERVED) VHS tape recording of the one-time airing in 1978 on CBS. Also included is a one-minute Star Wars toy commercial with the same audio and video quality.
