Help: looking for... TESB Definitive DVDR fix
Time
I used the fix shown here...

http://users.tpg.com.au/adsl5hum/index.htm

...to take out the 4 seconds of blank space in TR47's The Empire Strikes Back. TMPG DVD Author can only edit on certain key frames. This means I had to lose about 10 frames of the welding scene (around a third of a second). Other than that... flawless! I can much better accept losing 10 frames than seeing a 4 second gap. I'm happy with it.

Thanks for then tip!!!

Hey, Bizzle.

Why don't you put all the work into your own version and letting the rest of us be the judge? Right or wrong, I have so far appreciated EVERYONE's efforts in their DVD creation of the original trilogy and would not want to alienate anyone doing so. Let's all keep it to suggestions and comments instead of clogging up the thread with bickering that is not getting a new transfer closer to us any faster.

I have never seen those menus before. It's possible that someone did their own version from scratch or they just added their own menus to a previously done version found here.

On this site, the two versions most widely available right now are the TR47 and Dr. Gonzo versions, but some promising others are on the way. The original TR47 is barebones with no menus. This was originally done to dedicate all of the disc space to the audio and video only. It is standard 4:3 widescreen with the original PCM audio from the laserdiscs. The original Dr. Gonzo version has more bells and whistles like anamorphic 16:9 widescreen, full (and very professional looking) menus, an additional audio commentary track, and even an easter egg. But because of the extra stuff, video quality suffers slightly, and audio quality is a little degraded. It's a trade-off.

Still, other versions are coming down the pike that may improve on these two previous efforts, but the TR47 and Dr. Gonzo versions are generally the best ones to date.

MeBeJedi's ANH disc is different from the TR47 version because it not only carries the original PCM audio, but also an AC3 Dolby Digital 5.1 mix (from the PCM), an AC3 Dolby Digital 2.0 commentary track, along with menus for audio and chapter selection. I'm skeptical on how all that stuff could be crammed in on a single disc without sacrificing picture quality, but I'm game. I'd love to check it out.

I have created four DVDs to compliment the TR47 trilogy. Three of them contain exactly what you're looking for and more. They are meant to go accompany the TR47 films in their respective cases. You can contact either me or TR47 to get them. Rikter will have the set soon.

Exact content details of the DVDs and a brief review can be found here...

Enjoy!

Hey Rowman, thanks for the information. Sorry I didn't realize that my IM was turned off. I guess this explains why no one has returned my PM's. Stupid me.

I have them because I want the complete collection, too.

Hey, it seems the PM system is down. Email me at rwafford1 at yahoo dot com (format the address correctly, of course) and I'll get you the info on the SE dual layered set.

A friend of mine just told me he heard or read that the very first asteriod that passes by the Millenium Falcon in the shot from the POV of the cockpit window after Leia says, "What are you doing?" is the potato. It starts in the middle of the frame and passes through the lower right of the shot. I don't know if it's true, but it looks possible.

"the bonus features from the "Definitive Edition" laserdisc"

What about the commentaries?

- That is a certain sacrifice in order to have a better audio and video quality, since we haven´t started to see dual layer transfers yet. Until that happens I´m fine with omitting the commentaries (which I haven´t heard great things about) in order to have a better a/v experience for my OT.

peace,

The supplemental disc in TR47's Ultimate Set contains the Definitive Collection extras INCLUDING the scenes with commentary, but not the trailers as they are spread out over the other three bonus discs. I know this for sure because I created these extras discs specifically to compliment the original TR47 Trilogy. Feel free to contact me for complete info.

Episode III on EBAY?

A lot of people don't "trust eBay" because of stuff like this, but it's not eBay. It's the seller. eBay has too many auctions to be monitoring to take crap like this auction down very quickly. I'm just an eBay seller who is a little sensitive to comments like that. Unfortunately, too many people who get burned by dishonest people though eBay, blame eBay. Remember, it's the seller.

OT bootleg DVD reviews
Time
Not to toot my own horn, but I am the author of the bonus discs for the deluxe TR47 package. They were made specifically to compliment the TR47 trilogy. It was my first attempt at authoring DVDs from scratch using a friend's Sony Vaio Media Edition computer and I had great fun doing it. Surprisingly, Jim Prillaman has gotten hold of the discs and has started a review shown here...

OT Bonus Discs Review

If anyone's interested in getting them, contact either me or TR47.

I'm just excited that "buzz" seems to be starting on something that I made. I hope you all enjoy them.

A question of simple curiosity..... (OT releases)
Time
Yeah. I have both the TR47 and the anamorphic OT single layered discs. I'd say the dual layered factory pressed SE DVDs are in the same quality range as the laserdiscs as the OT DVDs are. They look really good, but still don't match what an official release would look like. Definitely worth getting if you don't own the laserdiscs and/ or want an upgrade from the out-of-print VHS release.

The source is just my own eyes and the logic of it. In the shot it appears to me that after Mark Hamill lands, he then stands up from a crouched position. The scene cuts right when he reaches full stance. I have worked on films containing stunts and can't imagine that they would have him land on a trampoline for that scene. He most likely would have landed on some sort of padding that would not propel him back upward if it was not necessary. If you watch the scene without the landing sound effect and then see Hamill stand up, you can tell that the platform he jumps off of is about the same height as he is. I think the sound effect was meant to make the platform seem higher than it actually was.

Oh, and regarding the potato/ shoe thing... Although I can't quote the exact source (maybe it's the Ken Ralston or Dennis Muren commentary on the films), but I think the potato thing was in the Empire asteroid sequence only and they used someone's sneaker and maybe wads of gum for the VERY DISTANT battling ships seen through the Emperor's window in Jedi.
