Info: Star Wars Executor Boxset VHS (1995)

No. The two documentaries never made it to laserdisc in the USA. They were only released on VHS and the video quality was not that great. In Japan, the two docs were released on laserdisc with SLIGHTLY better quality, but they also had burned in Japanese subtitles. After seeing the quality of both the USA VHS tapes and the Japanese laserdiscs side by side, I think that the masters used for the video transfers of these programs were "soft" looking. I also seem to remember seeing From Star Wars to Jedi when it was originally broadcast on public television and noticing that it didn't look that great.

I'm a SW fan from the netherlans my whole life. I have a question about the extra disc. Is there a torrent and has it some of the containt in it from the VHS EXECUTOR Box...

I'm not familiar with all of the torrent names, but if you look for something called Dr. Gonzo Bonus Disc or Definitive Collection Bonus disc, you'll probably get most of the stuff from the Executor boxed set. The television documentaries (The Making of Star Wars, SP FX, etc.) will probably be under their own titles.

Help Wanted: Upgrading from CD-to-DVD - Which preservation project version is best?

Based on this description, the best trilogy for you would be the TR47 RowMan Remix (as Rikter has named it). It's basically the TR47 original transfer with PCM audio (awesome sounding!). I took that and added a title screen and "fixed the glitch" in TESB. For what you're asking for, I think this is currently the best one available.

Rikter has non-subtitled laserdisc transfers of The Making of Star Wars and SP FX: The Empire Strikes Back. (In fact, I used his transfers for bonus discs I am creating for the EditDroid set.) I don't believe Classic Creatures and From Star Wars to Jedi ever became available on laserdisc in the States. Hopefully, a PAL VHS transfer might look better than the blurry looking official NTSC tapes.

widescreen presentation
optional isolated music score
pre-production paintings gallery
theatrical trailer

The missing DVD-ROM content folder is supposed to contain:

pre-production paintings jpegs
the script
movie sound effects in wav format

Maybe we can just recreate this folder instead of waiting for it to materialize?

Changes that you like (from the 1997 SE and the 2004 OT SE DVD release)
Time
I've grown to accept the changes to the original films, but in certain way...

The ORIGINAL versions of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, as it's own trilogy

and

The Special Edition versions of the above films along with episodes I, II, and III as its own "saga."

I think keeping them separate like this allows me to sleep at night.

Help: looking for... Return of The Jedi Cut with Alternate Workprint Ending???

I've seen this. It is footage from a workprint of the ROTJ 1997 Special Edition. With rough computer animations and drawings, it only depicts the scenes of the other planets celebrating the fall of the empire cut into the the original ewok celebration. Really no big deal.

digital projection is RAD - ROTS

Aside from being annoying, they lacked the sense of depth the film had. I'm more sold on digital projection suckage because of it. It just didn't look right. I go to a theater to watch a film, not a glorified DVD. That's my experience though. ^_^;;

I'm not sure, but I think the commercials you're seeing may not be from a proper digital projector, but a regular video projection system. My local theater does this and I can always tell when they switch from the video to the film projector. I don't think they would really spend the money for a real digital projection system just for the commercials before a movie. When AOTC was out, I saw the true digitally projected version and I thought it looked better than the film version.

RiK, myself, and a few others can help you out on that when the time comes. Just PM one of us.

Rik, were those making of´s taken from a laserdisc source or vhs? What is the quality like?

I know that Rik just recently obtained The Making of SW and SP FX: TESB transferred from the old DiscoVision laserdisc. The quality is excellent. A definite step up from the VHS transfers we've seen in the past.
