Political correctness is a framework of how to “act” (big key word there) or what can be said or what can’t be said and what is safe and won’t offend anyone.

But by stiffling actors so nobody can be offended by anything they could possiblg do i.e. the script is made safe for political corectfulness. The actors look like cardboard wooden and rubbish.

They are actually capable of much more but the material and the framework within which they are confined and boundaries that can not be crossed. The performances are bland and stiffled.

Perhaps you should think about the loads of terrific actors and actresses whose ability to even get on the screen has been restricted for years and years by racism and sexism.

I cut the rest out because I don’t know or care what you are trying to say.

As I said it has nothing to do with racism or sexism it has to do with “stars” attached to productions and from the names attached a budget is formed i.e. prediction of profit based on how big the names are.

I like a lot of independant american films and i like to see new actors that don’t make the blockbusters. I did not make the system the way it is…

What is this even supposed to mean dude

Like

Seriously

Natalie Portman in Star Wars prequels i percieved as a bad actress. Wooden.

Natalie Portman in Black Swan I percieved as a really good actress. Amazing perdormance.

These blockbuster scripts confine all these actors to coming off like cardboard cut outs. Nothing wrong with the actors or actresses. The scripts are like being in jail.

Whenever a film is made, The names attached to any production give it a bankability.

South Korean films and Bollywood films in no way have the same amount of budget as Hollywood. So in terms of their financers they may only get a small pool of interested actors and the budgets that coincide with this. Hollywood has huge bankable names and is far more diverse than many other film industries in other cohntries particularly because they export their films world wide all the time.

Whilst people are complaining Hollywood should diversify further and i don’t have an issue if they chose to do so. The people complaining about diversifying are not the ones putting their money on the line, or taking a gamble with further diversity and perhaps less bankable names and smaller budgets. This could have a positive effect hollywood having to cope with much smaller budgets rather than overblown huge expensive big name productions. But it is all banking on the blockbusters these days.

So the people complainging have to ask themselves what they want. Big budget, big name productions or greater risk lower budget productions although they may still exceed budgets in Bollywood or South Korea. But also are the studios willing to take the risk too?

Perhaps foriegn film industries yearn for western actors in their films but simply can not afford the price tag attached to them?

Top tier actors and actresses would also have a dimished income if they were used less frequently. Basically. Hollywood actors and actresses would be taking a big hit and this would cause a scadal.

When ever you hear an actor or an actress is attached to a production. That means it has been regarded bankable and has a profit expectation on the name attached.

Something else that i have been thinking about as there are loads of terrific actors and actresses but their ability to act is being restricted by political correctness so you are not getting the same sort of performances as you once did in the blockbusters. So the performances have become restrained also compared with an older mindset.

I would like to add that i am not that keen on Bollywood it’s not my thing but I adore South Korean cinema and when I watch South Kordan films i don’t care that it has no white people or black people or how many women it has in it. I just enjoy the story for what it is.

No one here is saying Lucas is/was racist. As to the rest I won’t dignify it with a response.

The problem with this sort of analysis from people with an agenda is that if these people who claim something was not only white washed and also sexist. Why are they also not sticking up for the alien life in the film as well?

Why are they not complaining that because there was a wolfman then there should also have been a wolf woman?

The problem that these people with a political agenda fail to realise is the world was a different place in the 70’s and a country such as the USA did not have such a diverse population as it does now. This also relates to actors and actresses being bankable and big name stars give a film a projected budget and a measure of prediction of success.

The people that moan about these sorts of things fail to understand that it is far better to have the best actor or actress and that is bankable in a measure of success than to simply diversify something for the sake of it… If American money is making the film why can’t they just have americans in it?

It’s not like South Korea or bollywood films feel the need to stuff random white people in to their films for the sake of it. Why don’t these same people campaign for equality in films made abroad? So why should American films pander to these out cry’s by political agenda groups when the peoole who claim to be fighting for equality are in no way calling any other film industries out in other countries…

So yeah that is the hypocracy of it all.

Whoa boy. Cool off. Nothing personal.

No anger what so ever, the point is why does the cameo of the droids “feel weird” that is the topic pertaining to the whole fan service shots. And i am saying I think that there was more to it before the reshoots and stuff was changed and that is why it feels like it was just shoved in there. And it feels like fan service but it probably worked better in the other cut. Read back a few posts…

Leia was ostensibly not there yet, either. Organa says that he’ll send for someone he “trusts with his life.” Maybe she rendezvoused with him at the base and loaded up the droids before docking with Raddus. Or, the Tantive was sent to pick her up with the droids in tow.

It does feel like something was missing around this part. Yes we don’t see this rendevouz? And what i am saying is because the blockade runner was put inside Raddus ship it feels like we are missing a scene or most likely a different version played out differently.

I doubt you will see stuff like this happen in Han Solo though it seems as though from reports they reshot 80% of the film.

I didn’t say something was missing. I said there are multiple ways it could’ve played out consistent with the plots of both SW and RO! The absence of such a scene is not a problem. There is no inconsistency.

I did say something was missing though and this is “my opinion” if you don’t like my opinion that is fine. Perhaps you can make me change my mind?

I don’t mind people having a different opinion. I am not saying my opinions are always right. I just think it feels like something is missing with that part. That is all really.

Because if the Tantive is loaded on to Raddus ship then how do they get aboard Raddus ship.

What i am saying is the scene of them probably originally carried on to show them leaving.

I don’t mind if you don’t think there is anything wrong with? Perhaps they did just hang around there and joined the fleet later on. Like i said i am not sure i recall correctly but i am pretty sure Raddus is already up in space or something by this point if i remember correctly. It is due to the recut though i am pretty certain about that.

If you recall the droids are on the tantive…

I hope I ain’t crazy for finding the C3PO and R2 cameo to be stupid cause I groaned when that came on screen. It just felt so hamfisted.

If i remember correctly Raddus ship already had taken off by the time we see the droids… So it is a bit strange because how did they get up there?

But if my memory is faulty on this then i apologize.

I managed the whole star wars prequel trilogy.

I managed to stay for one star wars sequel trilogy and one stand alone film.

It is a diminishing spiral down a plug hole on these big money spinners tent pole films.

Before it went, the stuff i was reading was disgusting.

People ripping each others throats out again and again and the same people having the same arguments on different films. They were following eachothers posts. It was like a verbal riot. And it was a big crowd and it was spreading.

The fact a lot of new blockbusters are targeted by activists now also makes them undesirable to me

The film i was most looking forward to has been pulled from uk cinema’s also in the last few days due to a argument between the 2 producers. Apparently it was because the last part of the film was too intellectual. “Annihilation” Alex Garland. This is a really sad state of affairs we are in I think. It will be released straight to netflix… People generally comment “Ok saves me from having to go to the cinema… Fine by me” there was no upset shown about this really. Nobody said “Can I decide if it is too intellectual for me? Or do i need somone else to decide if i am clever enough…”

Yeah that is what i mean.

This whole crowd shafted the IMDB message boards and got it shut down. So i am not impressed. I never posted there but i would often enjoy reading things about films. Not in it’s final days though.

The whole forum there got oblitterared because of these idiots. Enough said.

I agree with equality though i never watched films with inequalty in mind. It never entered my mind. I get the whole thing in old horror films where a women would run away screaming then fall over for example ad infinitum. This was pretty bad really.

The thing is it’s become more about watch a blockbuster film and complain about all this political stuff. Perhaps we need a film about the suffregettes more than ever. It is perhaps needed more now than ever. Although people won’t see that as a huge profit maker…

To be honest that what i would hope…, I found out about this edit through internet news and various cast members commenting on it with tear drops again and again.

It is a sad state of affairs… I don’t know that is why i say the 70’s 80’s and 90’s did it right now i do think there has been a loss of direction relating to “real” people which is gone further than before because it is so “fake” in a way and even though older films were still “fake” they just were not as fake as it is now. It’s pretty much completely unrelatable for a normal person to connect in a normal way…

The motivation of this edit is the big question.

You’re right, the motivation of this edit isn’t actually to make it seem more “real” (scare quotes yours). It’s to make it more like the sausage fests of yesteryear.

But when those older blockbusters were made… I don’t recall hordes of women complaining about how the women are portayed. They were perhaps not that bothered. Men were not complaining about how the men were portrayed. Like wise nobody ever used to bring up these political issues when watching a film regarding gender and sexism. Because the people are characters they are not real.

But we now have even less real characters and people screaming about sexism and social issues feminism so on. Is this an American thing? Is this like an American political argument that is raging across social media or something? Agenda driven outcrys aimed at calling for all these different social groups to be represented in Media?
It’s all a bit odd right now… Looking back i can remember politics were not injected by outsiders in to entertainment like this.

I think it is weird.

And this bloke got given a whole trilogy as in 3 more films with this sort of dialogue… HA HA HA HA.

Oh right, ronster.

No mate what i wrote was not the sort of sycofantic trash that you gobble up like some sort of heroin addict.

I treat films for what they are. It does not matter if it is a franchise ora stand alone film. Actually i despise all the Marvel franchise and the best films from last year I would say was “The Witch” and “High Rise” both totally new ground covered not your run of the mill shallow churned out machine blockbuster. It’s over for me all of this crappy superficial nonsence I am most certainly done. I prefer films with some sort of substance that i can relate to as a human and even if they give a different slant on realty i can still relate to it and understand.

But i am not the person who eats popcorn and feels a desire to stuff my face relentlessly because i am watching a film. This is the truth. Read and weap if you care too…

Lay off the insults. Now.

To be fair other people were being insulting. I am not having a fight just stating an opinion. People here often insult themselves with their comments. I am fairly on the level and not aggressive.

I only wish we could have the 90’s blockbusyers back! I don’t hate blockbusters at all in fact some are my favourite but it has now gone too far.

It’s become a weird detachment from reality in some of these new films and honestly this for me is too much. I don’t want to know… I will stick with more relatable films that make me realize something or teach me something, or even change my perspective on something or as little as open my mind to something different. That is the beauty of film.

You could also argue…People go to work full of politics. People read and watch news more politics… then when the desire for escapism to watch a film and yet more politics!

Interestingly i just got chatting to a fellow that made a short promo film of 4:32 about water purification and was shown all over africa. He was talking about how a shakesperian actor was hired but did not capture the right message ultimately the normal message came from him as script and producer and he ended up in the film for the water purification device and the shakesperisn actor was deleted as in never known to have existed.

Russian scientist named “Vittel” which i actually think there are Vittel mineral water bottles in circulation now… Anyway “Vittel” agreed but the guy “Cluffy” never got any royalties. Only payment on production. The film was broadcast all over africa. There is something interesting about film making… But Cool life goes on and people do good.
