Making A SWVC YouTube Video on Han v Greedo

The shot of greedo looking over at the deal was moved… It should be placed directly before “I’m Han solo” and be dubbed with “nice moves old man nice moves”

There is also the informant that leaves after Ben says “A ship that might suit us” removing the wipe.

No time to type at the mo but that should help some more.

Edit:

I will send you a edit to show you what I can…

Perhaps talking about the fate of Ponda Baba (Walrus man) and his numerous death variations and then focusing on Greedo and there being a few various things that could be different leading up to his death but not that at any point was there a point at which he shoots.

It might be a good way to frame the argument that Greedo shooting at storm troopers if the actors tale is true is accepted but not that he got one off against han.

the still of the dummy is probably the placement of the Special edition angle and it should only last that many frames with Hans laser resized to fit the rest of the times he fires. If greedo did fire then a squib would have been placed in the wall.

Possible 'proof' that Greedo was always meant to shoot
Time

If you want to go a few steps furthur on the scene…

Han “over my dead body”

Greedo “that’s the idea”

Han " I don’t think they’d like another killing in here"

Greedo “I’ve been looking forward to this”

Han “Yes I bet you have”

The Special edition frames Hans laser is too small incorrect scale.

The cantina band don’t stop playing probably because there was no third piece of music to use.

Dashboard for the Landspeeder is done… It took a while and it will be seen for about 1.5 seconds but it’s cool and the graphic can then be restored to the greenscreen area.

I Removed a lot of clips that were bare placed the screen in portrait and added a 50’s chrome dashboard style for the speaker and control knob thinking American graphitti style so I made it a bit more plush but retained most of the original design.

For Comparison

I watched that video about his edit and it sounded good… He made alot of good observations ad gave good reasons for why and how he changed the structure.

But and this is a small but he was essentially treating it as that it had to be 2 hours or there abouts which is fine constraits are good for creativity but it would also be interesting to look at what he loped off also as he does not regard any down side to cuttig anythig.

I thought it sounded well thought out though…

I thought I would leave this edit here…

Leias rescue (Cell Block shoot out)

https://vimeo.com/479602804

It’s a small edit and it’s quite a good one I think… 😃

Let’s just say a mechanical menace is no more.

Enjoy!

Here is another… Red Leaders Demise

https://vimeo.com/479627710

Putting footage in correct order and a simple effect shot. Just noticed the Audio is in on the explosion of Red Leaders ship but there has to be a cut to make it synch agin for the dialogue in the following scenes.

Last one for today Mos Eisley Entrance

https://vimeo.com/479629408

footage matched to sound (almost) although I think I will re do this one as there is a small alternative before they get stopped seeing the red / white speeder in full is the trick… Also of note the “still image” looking at the dewback and the Cantina is probably replaced with live footage zoom of live action Jawa and model Dewback.

Lockdown got me bored…

Isn’t he doing a completely new Ben’s hutt matte? Could’ve swore I read that either on here or on his blog.

No Idea? but I thought it was worth sharing these 2 things simply because it certainly feels for bens hut, like a changed concept that may have been in consideration whilst the Special Edition was in production. And the Star Destroyer is simply just nice animation albeit with a flickering starfield.

This is the music part I am talking about if it was an attempt to restore the missing music part.

Ok here’s an interesting tidbit I found it’s from a game called Star Wars Force Commander… It was in development whilst the Special edition was in production and it has a different version of Special Edition “Ben’s Hut” Matte painting.

https://youtu.be/QZ7MIX70UXY?t=458

This video should play at the moment the painting appears.

The thing that sticks out is that it has a small rocky path leading up to the Hut which explains how the Landspeeder or if anyone should walk up there could reach the Hut. Once you look more closely you can see how they covered up the path in the release version of the Special Edition to make it a cliff but they left the Landspeeder facing the Hut as if it had ascended the path.

Futhermore after this there is a very nice animation of a star destroyer orbiting Tattooine although the starfield is totally messed up the animation is actually pretty clever and a nice motion about it. I thought to myself it could just as easily be Dantooine but anyway I digress… The real important find is how the matte painting was changed to remove the access to the hut which could be a good idea for a restoration?

The image from the game would need an AI upscale but I think it could blend after that.

As far as the Star Destroyer shot goes if it has any weight to it whatsoever It might have been an attempt to restore the Harp Gliss (missing music) before we cut to the crashed escape pod as an idea or concept that never made the cut.

Point taken but please coroborate the points I made about the audio (radio drama similarities and commander Bast) first before repremanding me, and don’t blame me for having a guess on placement with no hard feelings attached to it.

Am open minded about it.

Good work would be great to see the scenes just cleaned up…

Even though the scenes themselves are the main focus I have a feeling the Vader deleted scene on the death star goes inbetween C3P0 entering the Lars Homestead and then emerging from the bath tub.

The fact that it blacks out is a bit telling.

As for Audio, the audio spoken by Vader used in the holiday special is actually meant to be for the scene aboard the tantive and the line spoken by Vader in the film aboard the tantive is for the deleted scene… It was swapped because the scene was cut.

Hope that helps 😃

Swap = “well done commander there will be no one to stop us this time”

Have you even watched the deleted scene? It’s clearly meant to be placed long after Luke meets Ben, when the’re at Mos Eisley. The clue is in the very first line spoken; “We’ve closed the spaceport at Mos Eisley and started a search operation”. And the dialogue for Vader can also be heard spoken by Dave Prowse. None of it corresponds to anything said aboard the Tantive IV. And the Dialogue for that scene that Vader speaks in the Holiday special was specifically recorded for that special. long after the film came out. It was recorded at the same time JEJ recorded his dialogue for the cartoon section.

EDIT: According to the novel the deleted scene with Vader & Tagge takes place right between the Han & Jabba scene & Luke & co reaching docking bay 94.

If you listen to the radio drama Vader says a line very similar to which is similar to the holiday special about “I want the rebels located and identified even if it means searching every house hold in the system”

Then when Vader walks with the commander Bast the line “Well done commander they’ll be no one to stop us this time” because the guy on the Tantive is not a commander that is the give away.

It is similar to the moved line when Luke is on the cliff “I’m ready for anything” which was moved to just before entering the cantina.

The placement of the scene was to be honest a guess but the space port was shut when they got there (discard the ships in the special edition) and the storm troopers do destroy the sandcrawler and go to Lukes house and Mos eisley is blockaded when they arrive… So it was a sense of what part feels like it’s missing a cut away, and that is the only place. So even if I am wrong which I can accept, it would not actually hurt it being placed there because there does not feel like any other natural place it would go and it still has no conflicts. I can’t say it feels like much missing from the space port part the most I ever found was a alien selling a sort of UFO ship as a market trader and a few alternate angles. The ship seller is a shot that still yet to be seen but there is a photo only.

Anyway try to swap that line that is the main point really but the placement take it as food for thought.

I suppose you can lump the unused deathstsr with lights image as the reveal beforr the scene also… You know the one on the game mat it is unused model shot. Or it swaps with the tarkin conference death star reveal.

One last thing in the on set audio of C3-PO coming out the oil bath the sound of the dripping oil is missing as he emerges (from the sound mix). If you did agree with the placement putting the sound of the dripping from the outtake would be the final bit of that part which is missing if it can be isolated.

4. Get volunteers to add dialogue for the expanded battle sequence (if it remains).

I offered (via Facebook) to attempt to extract sound files from “SW: Rogue Squadron II” a while ago, a gamecube game for which Denis Lawson (Wedge) recorded new lines. And obviously, there are other usable lines in these games as well. Never received an answer from Ady though, so I never started work. Could have failed, could have succeeded, who knows…

But I am with you, that sequence is great but lacks dogfighting dialog, no matter how nonsensical.

Seriously give it a go… The actual sound effects are available but the dialogue is not. There is also a good impersonation of Bobba Fett original voice. Would be great to extract the dialogue from this if you can.

Enter the Dragon (a WIP)
Time

Ok so the dust is starting to settle on the virus pandemic my life has taken a turn back to some semblance of sanity…

Thankyou for changing the title to (WIP) because although the goal has been reached for the theatrical version realease we are still coming up empty on the Special edition that I personally was hoping would finally get done but the courage to actually do a new special edotion faltered and wained even though the UK has had 3 different versions of the Special edition and the TV broadcast which also differed.

Criterion although a a hugely reputable company have perhaps decided not to go the extra mile…

With things as they currently stand internationally at this time in the world I could not possibly find a better title that is an exempler for Chinease and American co-operation and also something that contains American / Brittish and Chinease interests and is a hugely entertaining one of a kind grindhouse classic.

I think although ypu can see something like Enter the Dragon as small in the grand scheme of things and still albeit their has been some movement with this release of the theatrical version we still must double take the Special edition for not being entirely adequete and a bodge, hodge podge release.

I can not think of a better time than now to find the cut footage and audio that seem like left out by accident, not intentionally.

Making a new Special Edition of Entet the Dragon can and will heal divides and truly be something special and do good in a world that has gone somewhat stange. Pulling back into a world we can all be familiar with and cast away imposition of being told we must divide from other cultures and so on.

So my thoughts and sense of purpose will turn back to this again at some point although it is hard to find the motivation this moment still It will come and it will be when we need it most.

Ah… Well a man contacted me about the audio for the Monk Scene and the Audio for Bruce Lee’s voice.

I tried to explain a way to do it so you could put Bruce Lee’s voice back by an edit as all the dialogue is not available.

It’s also why I made the long post about the deleted scenes because they were hoping to get access to the archival reels or OCN and any other sound sources because of the differences in sound effects in the dubs and missing sound effects.

So It was somebody from criterion sniffing about for info although he did say although he was a big fan he could not influence any deciscions he could and would pass the information on.

The main thing was the Bruce Lee dialogue on the Monk scene but I told them about quite a lot of other stuff I had noticed but it looks like it never went further than an enquiry and an idea and no archival extra material or sound from Golden Harvest vault.

And perhaps the music for the monk scene on the Turkish version was just a dub and not OST lalo Schifrin unreleased music or anything like that…

But still good news.

My edit

Criterion

not too shabby my attempt 😃 I am available for Hire Thanks.

Info: Cleaning up the Apocalypse Now workprint!
Time

I have been watching the Redux and special features yesterday and a few things sprang to mind about footage from the workprint.

I feel at the start as Willard narrates about the walls closing in… Instead of showing Willard at the Kurtz compound from the end of the film this should be the sex scene with the prostitue while Jim Morrison is saying “Fuck Fuck, Yeah” before Willard has his mental breakdown about his wife.

Pretty much everything is ok so far as Redux is concerned but without the French Plantation and some parts at the end.

To me It feels like we should get the Booby trap “floating Baby” scene and the Monkey Sampan scene instead of the plantation scene.

There is also a small part missing for which Lance shoots at a Water buffalo near the Red Banners before the gun fight from the jungle that kills “Clean” (Lawrence Fishburne) The machine gun fire actually gave their position away. Potentially you could have the burial at the french plantation and then carry on up the River.

I think what can be inferred by the workprint is to do with Willards BLack Shirt so possibly Willard may have Killed Colby and Dennis Hopper photo journalist quite quickly and then Kurtz let’s Willard go after a while?

Hydrodoxychloroquine has been succesfull at stopping the viral pneumonia developing. It has been cited that quinine and zinc are both important ingrediants to tackle the virus. Think Gin and Tonic and old colonial drinks from india. India is a good friendly country so a specific targeted variant of this drug or similar will be created with a view to lessen side effects. There will also be a fluid produced from Zinc that will be intraveinously fed through the ventilators. The search for a treatment is far more important than a vaccine. Anyway a test and treatment and social distancing will irradicate this virus quicker than a vaccine ever could. At the moment we are in a war with guns that are firing blanks. Once we have a treatment we have real bullets.

https://fever-tree.com/en_GB/article/quinine-and-coronavirus

Test Treat and back to work.

This is the slogan I hope to be seeing appear rather than the current one although the social distancing measures are obviously having an affect. Gradually we can wind things back to normal I hope. Stay safe and use common sense and follow the advice.

Yes the Guardian is probably the best of the bunch and imperfect as you say oojason.

Although earlier in this thread I said about a scare from my Dad having coronavirus and testing negative in Spain. It now is being stated that the test kits the Spanish bought are unreliable. So he probably did have it and the test was useless. Thankfully he has recovered.

We are also now entering the time where as things are on an upward curve that the stats can become distorted. Deaths that have transpired over 3 weeks ago are being added to the daily death toll registered on top of the NHS stats.

There is also a case for can some of these deaths be 100% accurately attributed to coronavirus and can we be totally trustworthy of the figures atfributed by these extra deaths.

All in all the point I wish to make is that we will never truly know the actual number of deaths, cases and people that recovered. It is not a pointless excersize and as a guide with missing data it is adequete but it is unfortunately futile data at most. The media organizations can’t grapple with this problem that they really don’t have anything solid to provide and although they must keep people informed we all must just stop the spread and kickstart all our economies.

We all rely on eachother in this world. Stats and testkits and vaccines will only go so far towards solving this problem. It all comes down to common sense and just stay safe. I thunk we can all accept both good and bad will come from this situation but we must strive to get back to normal or a new normal.

Well Done Ireland.

I read an article from italien citizen explaining the various stages and denial.

Basically people carry on like it won’t affect them until you have an exponential explosion in cases. Mind you places like Spain and Italy have a lovely greeting of kissing both cheeks is also one of the worst things you can do when a virus like this is doing the rounds.

Do what you are told, get rid of it. Then fingers crossed and touch wood we can get back to something normal and get the economy going again with as little loss of life as possible.

So today I am going to help my mother do shopping for her and cut the grass in the garden. She is in the High risk category but it upsets me that all I will be able to do is be some distance from her whilst talking and drop the shopping on the floor. This is what we must do to try to stay safe. She will have to be inside the house for around 12 weeks in the UK is the current advice.

I have to do this but the issues are all very complicated surrounding the contagion as the experts still seem a bit mystified on truly how it spreads only that it spreads fast.

I’m in the same boat as you mate. A concerning time not just for ourselves - but our loved ones too.

The old girl lives on her own, is 70+ and deaf, and has several underlying medical conditions - including heart failure, and requires a range of medication just to keep her ‘going’. The local GP has been superb - though there is only so much they can do (already stretched to breaking before this coronavirus) and they admit the Govt leadership on this has been lacking, confusing and of little help (to say the least).

12 weeks is a long time for anyone in isolation, yet it has to be done. I’m just worried she’ll start chatting to the neighbours over the fence, and because she’s deaf and needs to read lips to help communicate… will get too close to them and void the isolation and potentially endanger herself / others.

Good luck to you and yours mate.

Thanks oojason I hope you and your family also stay well and stay safe… The hardest problem I am currently encountering is persuading my at risk elderly mother to stay at home and not catch it.

Old people get set in their ways and as horrible as it may sound to my mother… Stay in, stay away from catching a highly infectious disease that might kill you, is an awkward discussion. She is over 70 diabetic and a smoker.

We have had arguments but she does know I love her and I don’t want any harm to come to her but psychologically I will do my best to try and shoulder that mindfuck for her that this invisible threat might threaten her life.

The best advice was “do you want to be in intensive care with a load of tubes down your neck?” in response to her attitude of “If I get it… I get it” I can’t blame her for this attitude it is normal but she can’t afford to catch it she is in the high risk group. Please all take this advice, it’s not about scaring your loved ones but trying to make them understand that it “IS” very dangerous to be complacent. I am scared she just want’s to gamble on the trip out and I just really hope she can stay in and be safe until it is safer to do so. I stocked up her food for 2 weeks I will see her before then hopefully. I will speak to her every day on the phone.

Meanwhile my Dad is in Spain and had a scare that he had caught the virus… He has bad flu but not the virus but pretty much the same symptoms now his partner is caught it also. Health is important but in the case of Spain when will that be open again? All on lockdown pretty much everywhere. I will have to go ASAP to see him too if I can. Both He and his partner are not as high risk though but still getting old.

I have a few vids lined up but really I just want to put things in a correct order of sequence and add obvious missing stuff to be honest without going overboard. Nothing flash.

As you say it’s not something that needs saving because it is actually really good. Mostly I find the way the action is edited is all wrong but the story and the dialogue are all good.

Simply by editing the action better this film will “get better” not that it is bad the story does not need to change.

Interestingly whilst working on the canyon sequence the 1997 TV cut is edited differently from the 97 theatrical version in a few places (a few trims) but the purpose of this thread is to try and figure stuff out really at the end of the day and find a “workprint” type edit that put’s jumbled sequences in a better order and try to figure out integration for the deleted scenes.

I think it is a serious problem this virus… The major problem with it is that you can have contracted it and not even know you have got it. Then it can spread to elderly and if they have pre-existing condition like COPD, Diabetes, cancer or some other serious illness it can kill those people very quickly they can not fight it and also the virus is very contagious.

Then before you know it the hospitals are over run. People are in panic mode and a lot of people are losing work due to no demand for social interaction Sports, conferences, exhibitions, travel and tourism and restaurants. It’s not just a Health problem it is a hammer blow to the economy which now simply is not functioning as it should because of Banned activity and little demand.

Although the first reported cases were in February in the UK there are people that think they had it already in December and early January going by the symptoms and a lot of my colleages work in Events where potentially Chinease will show up to exhibit or even tourism in London so it could have been around far sooner than is being reported. So it could be that the journalism now spreading panic might be a bit late and slow if this is the case and although they are masqurading as purveyors of what you need to know they actually were asleep when we already had the problem; But it’s also the nature of the virus.
