Unusual Sequel Trilogy Radical Redux Ideas Thread

This one uses the music from Anakin and Padmé talking on Mustafar. But I totally remember seeing a mock-up with I’m So Sorry, I remember the music that swells up when it cuts to Mustafar lining up well when it cuts away from Ben and Rey to the Resistance ships blowing up.

I think he was referring to hearing the DotF chants as diagetic singing coming from the Sith cultists during the climax.

It is sort of ironic. John Williams and Abrams seem like they were going to make a new track for Luke raising the X-Wing, but many people around them said it just had to be the same music from ESB because the fans would know it. The Duel of the Fates track seemed like a no-brainer. It even showed up in the marketing, and the duel seems like a great place for it. Is it because it is the from prequels? Hmm.

Omni! I was just thinking about this again this morning. I wonder if it would fit well over the new shot Poppa made of Palpatine in the clone pods. Was it you that posted a version with a little reverb?

Yeah, I think idir is the only one that has tried to use it so far. I do think the clip could use more work if we wanted it to feel seamless with the rest of his dialogue in that scene.

It might be hard to totally replace the background, but I think it would be cool to use snooker’s mock-up of a Coruscant establishing shot where we see the Star Destroying looming over the temple. Maybe a large First Order banner could be hanging from its walls? Then, when we cut inside the board room, we could just show the cityscape outside the windows.

That looks really great jonh! Excellent job so far. I’m curious, how did you create the shots where they all raise their hands to help Rey?

On the topic of the score, although I don’t think Sideways does a great job at making his point (it feels more like a rant than any semblance of an analysis), I think the heart of the point he is trying to make, that the themes and motifs that are used throughout the film are often unmotivated or used poorly, is a really fair point that I think I do agree with. Sideways actually suggests an episode of the What the Force podcast that goes into this topic better than he does, probably. I do agree that looking into rescoring different scenes in the film would definitely be worth considering.

Here’s another random idea to throw onto the thread: When Kylo hears Leia’s voice and turns to look behind him, what if, for the briefest moment, he actually saw his mother? It already appears as if he is looking back at someone, so I wonder if we could create a single shot of Leia standing there on the wreckage with them.

We never really get a solid explanation for why Leia dies. It almost seems like just speaking to Ben killed her. With this idea in mind, maybe Leia learned how to project herself from the Sacred Texts, like Luke did. And the effort to do this, in order to stop Kylo from killing Rey, was enough to kill her. Plus, it was a shame that we never got a scene with mother and son together, so even though it would be for just a brief moment, I think it would be rather touching if the last thing Leia get to see before she dies is the face of her son.

It always amused me that during the temple massacre - at least, when we see him enter the council chamber to kill the younglings - Anakin doesn’t have the Sith eyes. It’s only when he’s on his way to kill Wat Tambor that he’s sufficiently evil to qualify. And then he has a good cry over all the dead Separatists :’(

This is why, if I could shoot new footage for it, I would love to have Anakin go to Mustafar to hunt down and kill a group of surviving Jedi.

This interpretation might not come across to anyone but me, but I think if you kept all the lines about Snoke the way they are, and then had these Palpatine clones, it gives me the impression that Snoke might have actually been a malformed clone of Palpatine himself. The Palpatine clones already sort of look like hybrids with Snoke’s body and Palpatine’s head, so maybe those are other malformed bodies. Perhaps Snoke was an early clone, and they have slowly had to perfect the clones overtime. But in the meantime, Palpatine used Snoke to begin his plans for revenge.

Sure, we learn that Palpatine made Snoke, but what, or who, was he made from? I think this could be an interesting way to provide a little extra clarity.

But again, maybe that’s just me.

Just to throw out some potential lines people could say:

“For Leia!”
“We’re with you, Poe/General Dameron!”
“[insert callsign], standing by.”

Callsign ideas: Phoenix, Ace, Phantom, Wraith, Red, Blue, Gold, Green, Wolf, Wraith, various planet names (like Naboo Fleet, Bespin, Ryloth, etc.). You could either say Leader or Squadron, or a specific number. Maybe people could think of some clever easter eggs to throw in at this point.

I think the “all wings report in” moment would be great for the reveal shot, as we hear all these people raise their voices in solidarity. Then throughout the battle we could get various lines like, “For Skywalker!” I do think add voices to the battle would definitely help make that incomprehensible number of digital ships feel more like real, living people joining the fight.
