Episode VIII : The Last Jedi - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

The Last Jedi does not ruin anything set up by The Force Awakens. Everything in TLJ fits with exactly what Han says happened: “One boy, an apprentice, turned against him and destroyed it all. Luke felt responsible. He just…walked away from everything. There were a lot of rumors, stories. People who knew him best think he went looking for the first Jedi temple.”

Luke was not reverted back to a previous version of himself. Just because you have success in your youth is no guarantee of success later in life. On the contrary, experiencing great success earlier in youth can make INEVITABLE failures that much harder to cope with.

Losing a child can rip a family apart. It is compounded exponentially if one of the family members blames themselves for the loss. You can hear the anguish when Luke laments how Leia trusted him with her son.

Yoda does say Luke is looking away at the horizon again, but it’s different this time. When he was younger, he was obsessed with the future and adventure at the expense of the present. He needed to learn focus. Now in his old age he is dwelling on the past at the expense of the present, and missing the opportunity that Rey presents.

Luke is not even honest with himself about exactly what happened. He tries to unburden himself by blaming the Jedi way. Only when he accepts his own mistake and finally forgives himself is he able to learn from the experience. This is a hard lesson to learn. Sometimes it is harder to forgive ourselves than the forgive others because we hold ourselves to an unattainable perfect standard.

Luke then puts on an awesome display of Force mastery in one of the most beautiful and poignant moments of the entire saga.

The Last Jedi is an absolutely wonderful movie.

Star Wars: Resistance (animated series) - a general discussion thread
Time

I’m enjoying this. The Clone wars and Rebels both started out slow and ended up becoming great. I consider both to be essential Star Wars viewing. I’d say Resistance has started out stronger than both of those. I like the Deep Space Nine/Babylon 5 feel to the setting of life on the Colossus platform. I’m guessing in an episode very soon, Starkiller is going to fire and destroy the Hosnian system. Then things are going to get very real for the sheltered Kaz.

It’s all anecdotal, but everything I’ve experienced says the majority of fans still like Star Wars as much as they ever did and enjoy all of the movies. Sure, they may enjoy some more than others, but the state of the franchise is fine as far as the fans are concerned.

The issue is that the most negative personalities tend to be the most unrelenting and vocal. The internet and social media have given everyone a voice and some have chosen to focus their voice on things they hate instead of things they enjoy. That is incredibly puzzling to me since there is so much out there now.

ANDOR - Disney+ Series - A General Discussion Thread
Time

Rogue One is great and Cassian Andor is a great character in it. It was interesting to see that not everyone on the side of the Rebels is a white knight. Everyone gets dirty in war and Cassian demonstrated he has no problem doing whatever he feels must be done. He definitely shot first. He’s lost everything and the fight is all he has. A character that is willing to win at all costs is a great basis for a series. I can’t wait to see what seedy dives he goes into.

Is Star Wars "Better Than It's Ever Been"?
Time

The Original Trilogy is still tops, but this is a really great time to be a Star Wars fan as well. We live in a world now with smartphones and instant streaming of content. The current output isn’t excessive, it’s just keeping up with modern expectations. I think it’s great. A little something for everyone. I love it all so far. Lots to look forward to. A live action series, more Clone Wars, new Resistance, Episode IX, and trilogies from Rian Johnson and the Game of Thrones producers. Yep, great time to be a Star Wars fan!

Solo: A Star Wars Story — Official Review and Opinions Thread — SPOILERS

I really liked Enfys Nest too. The train heist was entertaining and her theme section of the score is great. I loved it later when she jumps from above, hits the ground with her weapon, and sends a bunch of people flying. Her hinted at backstory was interesting as well. Excellent character design.

Sounds like a great way to get fired. Unless Lucasfilm and Disney just don’t care at this point? The closest Lucas ever got to trolling was wearing that Han Shot First t-shirt on set of Crystal Skull. Nice way to make a buck off a phrase unhappy fans coined.

The GOUT was the sickest troll move of all time. It belongs in the Guinness World Records of trolling.

This is what our culture has become. We live in a social media driven word where clicks matter most, and what gets the most clicks? Negativity. All that negativity has actually had an affect on how people process entertainment. They don’t go into a movie to enjoy the hard work, talent, and imagination of others. They go in on a seek-and-destroy mission to find everything wrong and blow it out of the water, because that’s what’s cool now.

I am certainly not advocating the switching off of brains. Nothing wrong with examining something critically, and it should be able to stand up to normal critique, but it has gone to a detrimental extreme. People think they actually know better than highly paid, award winning professionals. Much of their criticism is more personal taste and not artistic merit, but the bashing is all that matters.

If people would just go into things with a different mindset, one of a desire to appreciate, not nitpick. If they could stop thinking about how they would do it better and just enjoy the work of art that thousands of people came together to make for them, I think they would enjoy themselves a whole lot more often.
