Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker - Discussion * SPOILER THREAD *
Time

I used to get into debates online about things, but there is just no point. I’ve had multiple experiences where I have given someone verifiable scientific information from multiple reliable sources regarding an objective subject, but people will just reject what they don’t want to be true no matter what, and will believe whatever they want despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. Orwell was right, objective truth is dead. So debating something subjective like a movie makes even less sense. I pop into online threads and take in whatever joy I can find when i encounter it, and skip over the hate. I love The Rise of Skywalker. I had one of my very best experiences going to the marathon. I can’t wait to get it on disc. Your mileage may vary.

‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ Advance Ticket Sales Now Pacing With ‘Last Jedi’

https://deadline.com/2019/12/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-advance-ticket-sales-fandango-last-jedi-1202812274/amp/?__twitter_impression=true

“Advance ticket sales for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker are pacing with 2017’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the same point in their Fandango cycle. We heard from other exhibition sources that a $200 million-plus opening is within reach. Also working greatly in favor of business this weekend: 15% of K-12 schools are out on break Friday, with another 79% colleges. Those numbers jump to 96% and 97%, respectively, by Monday.”

‘Star Wars: Rise Of Skywalker’ Eyes $450M+ Global Debut
https://deadline.com/2019/12/star-wars-rise-of-skywalker-global-opening-box-office-1202810995/

“Disney will ring out its $10 billion-plus global 2019 with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, in what is expected to be a $450M global opening.”

“The expectation is at least $200M+ in U.S./Canada (with an asterisk — read on) and $250M abroad.”

“Stateside advance ticket sales are on par with Last Jedi four days before opening and indicate a $200M opening despite the fact that tracking has the J.J. Abrams-directed ninth-quel at $175M.”

Yes, it’s all just for fun, but people are naturally going to critique other predictions and how people arrived at their conclusions. Not all sources and methods are equal in my opinion. Of course none of us really knows, we haven’t even seen the movie yet and don’t know how good it is (or isn’t). I just think it’s fun to guess.

And somehow it will make lots and lots of money. I think I am just about alone on this notion that you vote with your dollars instead of paying money for the privilege to hate-watch something to, in turn, argue intelligently on a forum about why it sucked.

Same. Except for haven’t having watched TLJ; I did end up watching the first 40 minutes.

Maybe lots of people saw and enjoyed them both?

Do either of you have a box office prediction? (most recent list of predictions listed on previous page)
