I agree, I think it's a much better idea. So much of the plot of ROTS got changed after the film was supposed to have been shot, it's clear Lucas didn't have a detailed idea of what he wanted to happen from the get-go.
Of course, this might mean a gap of several years between ROTJ:R and TPM:R, but hands up anyone inclined to whine about this?

Ady — if you're planning to make A:R:SE with options for added music in the duel scene, would you consider doing the same for ESB:R? I've seen the ESB duel as originally scored and it'd be awesome to have as an alternative on the disc.
Also, taco_fox: Adywan put together a "theatrical restoration" cut of ESB, colour-corrected and with SE elements removed, while he was starting work on ESB:R. Track it down if all you've got is the Laserdisc rip.

1) If you go into the EU, they're not literally lasers, but plasma projectiles.
2) It's Star Wars. If we wanted to list the number of things that don't make scientific sense, we'd be here all year. What matters is the story and the pretty pictures. Actual physics can go and take a running jump.

Love the look of the new bacta tank. I was never fussed about the idea that it should be a different colour, but it looks very cool.
Out of interest, how much more effort would it be to render the special features as a PAL disc as well? I just find NTSC jitter extremely distracting, even when the focus isn't on the picture quality, and it would "feel wrong" having a two-disc set in different formats. If it's a lot of extra effort on your part, then don't sweat it;but if it's mainly out of concern for viewer confusion, I think having the film available in both formats and the special features only in one would be at least as confusing.

It's mainly a matter of changing the name, so that its destruction in ANH is more effective. Back when I first heard about the prequels in '97, I thought we'd get to see a fair bit of Alderaan, but as it is we see one side-character from the planet, who's only really important in the last act of Episode III, and maybe thirty seconds on the planet itself.
Interesting — the only thing that annoys me more than a DVD which jumps straight into playing the main title is one which plays the menu once, THEN jumps straight into playing the main title anyway.
I still think Naboo should be conflated with Alderaan. It sort of turns that part of the PT into a bit of a shaggy-dog story, but it would heighten the effect of its destruction in the OT.
I loved the photo that came up on this thread YEARS ago of Gen. Veers waiting outside Vader's chamber. I'd love to see that worked into the menu somewhere.
More just that all those things are things which have been discussed here and which Adywan doesn't want us to waste time on when he's already categorically decided not to do them.
Maybe he did, before Obi-Wan was in the loop. You could pull dialogue from another Lee film — lord knows there should be enough of them — as a sort of sequel hook in TPM.
