I’ll make you one. Shouldn’t take long to adapt my box set design.
I’ll make you one. Shouldn’t take long to adapt my box set design.
Right, well, I think I’ll just be crawling into my hole now and thinking about my life choices. That’s a magnificent set.
I’ll be posting my covers soon, just been having trouble with exporting from Affinity. For some reason it doesn’t handle rendering starfields reliably.
Man, that’s a shame. I haven’t had the chance to download the set yet, due to limited bandwidth, so I’ll have to track it down through this thread later this year or next year. I have just finished my cover and disc art for the set, though, and I’ll be uploading that most likely at the weekend.
It’s a combination of two separate fonts: the uppercase is Trajan, and the lowercase is Albertus small caps. I’d advise getting the originals.
Schrödinger’s troll: posts stupid annoying shit, decides whether he was “joking” based on the response he gets.
“Joking” or not, you’re being a colossal dick. Delete your account.
I had no idea it was a joke, because it wasn’t funny.
All these covers are making me feel quite inadequate, but here’s my own contribution. I’ve deliberately kept details of this specific release off the individual covers, so you could use them for any release of the Despecialized Editions. I’ve done a 10-disc version (for people who can only do 25GB discs), disc art and a simple 12-page booklet as well, and I’ll be putting them all in a single zip file and uploading them soon. They’ll be better image quality than you can see here, I’ll be exporting them as pdfs not jpegs; this is just for the sake of having a preview.
Any comments, suggestions or requests are more than welcome.
I’m also planning on a variant of this set including Adywan’s Revisited edits, for when they’re all finished.
I’m not sure when it comes to describing a shape, but when it comes to media it isn’t. In computing “disk” refers to magnetic media (hard disk, floppy disk) while “disc” refers to optical media (Laserdisc, Compact Disc, Digital Video Disc). I’ve no idea why that’s the case, but it is.
Mainly just posting here so I can keep up to date on the thread. I don’t have the data allowance to get this set as it stands, but I should be able to grab it later in the year. I’m also working on a case design for the set, which I’ll share here when it’s done. Planning on two- and three-disc versions as well as a four-disc set including these plus Ady’s Revisited for completists. Any other suggestions or requests?
Son, just don't.
I'm not wedded to keeping the eagles, especially if we can segue from the mountain escape to the beginning of the second film, but my first cut needed to be a real book-purist one. I don't mind if my final cut omits things from the book, so long as it isn't any worse in that respect than the LOTR movies. (I still haven't forgiven Jackson for leaving out THE ENTIRE FUCKING ENDING.)
I've been having a go at this over the last couple of days. My rough cut of the first film comes in at 103 minutes (without credits). That's mostly been chopping whole scenes, although a number of times I've had to make fiddlier snips. That's just a first pass, though; I've been as generous as I can, with a view to cutting more later. I'll watch it through to see how the pacing goes, and try to shave off another half hour or so if I can.
Changes so far (that I can remember):
I may cut down Thorin's mistrusting-Bilbo arc, which was quite exaggerated from the book, in which case I can cut down the last battle even more, eliminate Azog, and lose a minute or two elsewhere.
I haven't actually seen the second film yet, so I'm not sure what I'll be able to do with it, but at the very least I'll try to eliminate Legolas and Tauriel and Smaug's golden shower.

As soon as I came out of the first film I decided this needed to be done. I'm making a start on the first part, will upload a rough cut at some point.
I'll be very interested to see this. Question: which version of the films will you be using as a basis? It could be very cool to stick entirely to the original versions (rather than SE or Revisited) and make the thing look like it could have been made in the '70s.
Also, a film as long as this one is going to be deserves an intermission, like an olde-stylee epic. Thoughts on where this might go?
ANHR had an adequate disclaimer/anti-piracy message on the DVD right at the beginning. I've not heard that Ady's plans for ESBR are any different, so I don't see any need to fuss about it.
I agree with Brash.
Giggity.
That idea actually has some narrative potential — if Han came out of the carbonite having lost his strength and confidence, it could do a lot for his character — so long as his arc for the rest of the movie was dealing with it, regaining what he'd lost and developing as a character that way.
The movie as it stands only does the beginnings of this. I'm not saying it has to be done, or that it even could be done, but it would be one way to try to improve the film.
Agreed. It's not a matter of doing something realistic in the first instance; it's a matter of doing what works as a piece of film and then finding a realistic (within the story world) explanation.
I never noticed his name in ROTJ, and lord knows I've seen the film enough times. If Adywan includes him in AOTC:R, I hope he goes unnamed (and mostly silent) in that film as he does in this.
Agreed. Anything recognisable yanks you out of the movie.
I love the lightsabre mockup. I initially thought you were avoiding showing Luke's face altogether — which could work very well, dramatically speaking, and would mean we'd be able to shoot the scene with a stand-in rather than reusing footage.
Re timdiggerm's concern: I think it's another case of where the limitations of what we do can lead to a good dramatic outcome — Luke doesn't want to believe that Vader is his father, so he's been putting off asking until it's almost too late.
That's a brilliant idea.
Idea. *cue lightbulb*
I'm a linguist, and I've constructed artificial languages for stories before. If someone seriously wants to have a crack at this, I'd be happy to help out. It takes a little while to do, but it would give me an excuse to make another one. Of course, you'd have to be prepared to record everything in the new language from scratch.
Just an idea.
