i'm a firm believer that the classic Boba Fett voice is the only voice... the new guy sounds way too Aussie for me. you could always just make alternate audio tracks for people who prefer the new one. stick with Jason Wingreen's voice. unless Jango's son is a clone of himself it makes no sense to me that Temuera Morrison would play Boba's voice as well.

gotta say those open window shots DO have to go (Bespin).

In the first place, "the new guy" is a Kiwi, not an Aussie. In the second, what's wrong with his accent? The reason Ady's restoring the old voice is because Morrison's performance isn't up to scratch. In the third, Jango's son is a clone, although I liked the idea that the Star Wars: Reborn guys were floating around of conflating the two into one character. I think Ady's solution, however, is going to be treating the voice of Jango to sound more like Boba in AOTC when he gets around to it.

On the open windows... why? If there isn't any reason you want them gone other than they weren't there in 1980, then there are OUT restoration projects on here that would be more to your liking.

I don't have any special set-up myself, but a DVD cover is smaller in both dimensions than a piece of A4 paper. My box art would probably be too wide, but there are always ways. The trick is to get it to print at the right size, and I have no idea how to do this — I haven't printed out any of my covers yet — so I just worked to the same resolution scale as Sky_'s Revisited cover for all of mine.

Also, keep in mind that film one, "Star Wars: Reborn" will retell the events of ANH and AOTC.

Then, film two "The Empire Strikes Back: Reborn" will feature ESB and the first half of ROTS.

And film three, "Return of the Jedi: Reborn" will include ROTJ and the second half of ROTS.

Just double-checking a few things then: mainly, are you still going to use a very condensed TPM as the prologue to the first movie? Also, at what point in ROTS does ESB:R end and ROTJ:R begin?

I'd also really love to know how you're handling the crawls, but if you'd rather keep that a secret I can understand. :p

Hmmmm... I wasn't going to bring this up, but I've been working on a set of covers for the Reborn saga to complement my Revisited series. I haven't decided on how to treat the individual movies — if I can work up some skillz I'll attempt an original image for each one — but here's the WIP of the 3-disc box. The images are by Simon Zoltán (http://simonz.co.hu); the rest is by me.

ETA: Ben_danger, if you'd like, I could use whatever cover art you come up with for my covers.

Letting everybody know, I received my PAL DVD-9 from Adywan in the mail today and will be burning copies tomorrow; one is promised to Johnny Ringo but the other 2 PIF slots are still open. If anyone else in Australia or NZ would like a copy, PM me with your details and I'll probably be able to send them out on Friday.

Oh, I like 3PO, especially in this film, I just have a minor problem with the writing of that one exchange. Mostly they work around R2's inability to do exposition quite nicely, which is why this scene sticks out. You can replace R2's beeps with some piece of real dialogue most of the time, which is the test of how such a scene works. Eg. on Tatooine in ANH, the closest we come to this is:

C-3PO: "This way is much easier."
R2-D2: <beeps>
C-3PO: "What makes you think there are settlements over there?"

Here, R2's line could be something like "I need to find someone," whereas with the exchange aboard the Falcon the only plausible lines are basically identical to what 3PO says. Why would 3PO repeat it? He doesn't need to translate for anyone else's benefit.

I'll find some way to rationalise it if Ady keeps it, but I felt I ought to raise the issue.

I was watching the GOUT ESB today. Adywan, I know you're not planning to alter any dialogue in this one but there's one part that often irks me: When R2-D2 is fixing C-3PO and Chewie is fixing the Falcon, 3PO repeats R2's lines back for the audience. It's pantomimish (and not in a good way) and dramatically unnecessary.

C-3PO: "Why don't we just go into lightspeed?"
R2-D2: <beep>
C-3PO: "We can't?"
R2-D2: <beep>
C-3PO: "How would you know the hyperdrive is deactivated?"
R2-D2: <beep>
C-3PO: "The city's central computer told you?"
R2-D2: <beep>
C-3PO: "R2-D2, you know better than to trust a strange computer!"

To my mind, no information is lost with the removal of "We can't?", since it's obvious they can't, and R2-D2's next line is enough explanation; same goes for "The city's central computer told you?". I'd like if either or both these lines could be excised without affecting the rest of the scene. For the first, it would be sufficient to just remove the line; it wouldn't need any actual removal of footage. The second line would be more difficult.

Sky traffic to Cloud City should especially be added after Lando's evacuation announcement. When the falcon flies off there is little sky traffic at all, I think there should be a lot due to the evacuation announcement.

I like this idea. If it's doable, it would be nice to see a few other ships getting the hell out of Dodge as the Millennium Falcon is jetting off itself.

I concur.

Would that save you from having to do layers upon layers of color balancing from the get-go?

It would, but at the expense of picture quality. I think Adywan would have considered it for that very reason, but while the colours would be better, the other elements of the picture — clarity, resolution and grain, as well as all the SE enhancements he's keeping — would suffer. I believe Adywan's working from the HD broadcast of the 2004 version, making the difference between '04SE and GOUT much much bigger.

I don't know much about the technical aspects of applying the colour histogram from the GOUT to the '04SE; I believe it's been tried but I don't know what the drawbacks are. That's the method I would initially have tried but presumably Adywan has equally good reasons to reject it as well.

Darn it! Now I wish I had that for the ANHR DVD! I mean, Adywan's cover is good, but this would be an awesome alternative!

What symbols did you use for each film?

No need for wishing, go right ahead, download it and print it out. :D The full-resolution images are linked right there.

As for the symbols, you can see the Alliance emblem (they call it the "Starbird") from Luke's helmet for ANH. I used the Imperial crest for ESB, an Expanded Universe Jedi symbol for ROTJ, the emblem from the Chancellor's Senate podium for TPM, the eight-pointed roundel from Obi-Wan's fighter for AOTC and a symbol found on the Republic's Star Destroyers for ROTS.

It pleases me so much to hear that. That was the main thing I was trying to get at with these covers, and that's why I did them all together (all that's left to do is the blurbs). That's also why I chose Drew Struzan's posters for the covers; he's the only one I know who's done official posters for all 6 films. I decided on a colour and a logo for each film (eg. white and the Alliance symbol for ANH) — everything else is the same.

I got a PM asking where I found the high-res versions of the posters. I got them off a fellow fan-cover-maker, Ric Easton (which is why he gets credit in the little disclaimer text on the disc). A zip file containing all the images I used plus several others (some of which I'm using for a set of covers for InfoDroid and tjdavis1138's REBORN edit) is available from his website here. For the box I'm designing, it looks like I may be using a giant photo collage by Simon Zoltán in a wraparound design.

Hey guys, I've been working on a cover for this for a little while — a set of covers in fact, with matching disc art, for when Ady revisits the rest of the saga — and post a preview below.

Thanks to Johnny Ringo for compositing and rendering the above previews for me.

I have a couple of ideas floating around for a box for this set.

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: The InfoDroid Edit (Released)

I'm planning to do Last Crusade soon too. And yeah, Ben...I'm sure I'll end up editing Indy IV eventually... :)

I know this is not much more appropriate a forum than the Star Wars: REBORN thread, but I have a question for if and when you do get to #4.

I loved the movie, with a few niggles of course (mainly the silly CG monkeys and the OTT waterfall scene), but the title grated on me as much as the retitling of Raiders as "Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark", on the DVD case at least (I haven't seen the DVD itself so I don't know but I hope he hasn't changed it there too). "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" is just as unwieldy — compare these two to the original, much shorter "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade". In addition, what relevance is the Kingdom (ie. temple) of the Crystal Skull? It could be turned into "Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull", but I thought a simpler and much more fitting title would be "THE RETURN OF INDIANA JONES". It fits the B-movie ethos these films have always had so much better than the actual title. It's also appropriate given the 19-year gap since the previous film.

Would you consider including this retitling?

I'm so glad after reading the last few pages that I'm getting this edit on a physical disc to PIF. (Should be here any day now, if you sent it a week ago... I can't wait!) Call me old-fashioned.

The alternate opening was great, although after the campaign sticker on the back of the Star Destroyer in "Family Guy," I don't think any other slogan could have measured up.

Gotta be kidding, right? Spaceballs did the same gag 20 years ago and did it ten times funnier than Family Guy.
