What's the best order to use when watching the Star Wars saga?

There are a lot of people here who prefer Ep 1 over 2 and 3, mainly because it is closer in tone to an actual Star Wars movie.  And there's CPY, of course.

 Is understandable indeed;
and what's CPY?

Creepy Puppet Yoda (in Episode I).

I find Jar Jar to be significantly less annoying than Hayden Christensen's wooden Anakin performance. I'd take "meesa" and "yousa" over "I don't like sand" any day.

With that being said, I think you'll find that many around these parts prefer Episode I over the other two. I think it has more to do with our opinion that it feels more like a Star Wars movie than the others, despite its overall low quality. This is probably due to its tone and the fact that it visits a planet (namely, Tatooine) very familiar to OT fans.

I don't like Episode III because I believe that its attempt at a dark tone feels artificial and forced. I also don't enjoy 45-minute-long lightstaber duels. The following post might help you understand why I like Episode III the least. http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/topic.cfm/Episode-VII-Discussion-WARNING-HEREIN-LIE-SPOILERS/post/731906/#TopicPost731906

I understand why TPM is more appreciated for hard OT fans as an overall SW movie but as far as the SW plot the Ep. II and III contributes more to the OT storyline, and is not necessarily because those are better movies but because they happen to be the closest episodes to the OT. Also I saw your post and well... what can't be ''hyped'' these days? Sad but true.

I personally prefer ROTS over the other prequels, followed by TPM then AOTC. Had Jar Jar never existed, it would be my favourite of the prequels. Jake Lloyd's acting isn't great either, but then neither is that of Hayden and Natalie in much of the other two movies.

I would recommend, like everyone else, Harmy's editions if you want something close to the original, but Adywan's, if you want a better special edition than the one we got and something that helps tie the OT and the PT together, visually.

As for the PT, I enjoy watching them occasionally, but don't think they really add much to the saga, storywise (in fact, storywise, I think they detract from the saga). Visually, however, they're a fun addition with all the new planets, environments, spaceships, and of course the war aspect of it.

I'm afraid the referee is going to have to intervene now. There is a gross imbalance of power at the moment, and I think it is only fair that we switch up the teams a bit. Ender, please trade your promoted rook, one gold general, one silver general, and one knight for one of Post Praetorian's lances. Remember, this is about having fun, not winning, and we want to make sure no one feels discouraged.

I would recommend watching the OT first, then the PT. I don't know if you've seen Adywan's Revisited edit of Episode IV, but if not, then I recommend that over the Special Edition. Unfortunately, he hasn't yet finished Episode V or VI, but they're coming...eventually.

I've never seen any edit of any kind, only official DVD/BR releases so far so I'm open to recommendations . What is the difference between the official release and the Adywan's Revisited edit?

Well, for starters, he colour-corrected the whole thing to remove the awful blue tint present in the SE, but he also did cool things like adding blinks and other facial movement to the cantina creatures (and it doesn't look fake at all), removed some of the sillier moments of the SE while preserving some of the better aspects, added background dogfights and several other improvements to the Yavin battle, updated some displays to look more futuristic and jive better with the PT, etc. Very little he did looks fake or doesn't match the rest of the movie visually, aside from a new Death Star intro he did, which is still cool even if it could be better.

The only downside is that he sourced his edit from the DVD version, so it isn't in HD, though I don't know how much that matters to you. He has plans to redo the edit in HD in the future, however.

Oh God, I just read Bingowings's post....no wonder you guys are confused.

Don't listen to Bingowings, he's  so wrong...NO! DOOKU DOES NOT WANT OBI TO BE HIS APPRENTICE TO OVERTHROW PALPATINE.

You are so off. it's not even funny.

 LOL!

We aren't confused, we just don't see Star Wars in the PT, but rather a comparatively lousy three films that contradict the OT both in spirit and story. Also, why does it matter if Dooku wants Obi-Wan to help him overthrow Palpatine or if he just wants to turn Obi-Wan against the Jedi, or something else? And what does he want, according to you? Bingowings was just trying to make sense of a senseless trilogy.

Anyhow, you won't convince us to love the PT as most of us, even those who enjoy watching them, are convinced that the PT is vastly inferior to the OT.

Like I said, that's why I dislike Phantom Menace but you see my love for Star Wars runs deep and like it or not the events are canon and that is why I promote DARTH PLAGUIES because it literally retells everything from a hardcore, violent, and adult perspective. It covers only the most important events in PM and shows us Palpatine' motivation for everything.

I'm not sure you realize this, but official canon is only really relevant to the creators of Star Wars material. To everyone else, they have a choice to go with it, or read whatever they like. Many people here don't include the PT in their personal Star Wars canon (if they have one) because it doesn't really make a lot of sense. Please explain to me how Anakin's fall to the Dark Side is even remotely believable as portrayed in the film, or why the PT contradicts the OT on points like Anakin and Obi-Wan being friends, or Leia remembering her real mother or Yoda training Obi-Wan.

And by the way, Darth Plagueis isn't even considered canon anymore.

but other that that Ep. 2 & 3 don't need any additional outside sources to understand. You don't really need to watch that Clone Wars Episode to get that plot point regarding the creation of the clones.

No, but see above.
