This depends on whose point of view you are seing things from.

Both sides fall prey to the same linguistic othering of their enemy in opposition to what they see as 'right' as you just did.

The 'truth' "from a certain point of view".

Saddam was a bad guy and I'm glad he's gone but I'm also sorry to the 1.3 million estimated people he murdered that he was propped up and supported by successive US governments until he outlived his usefulness in the region. Hopefully Iraq's next American appointed puppet will agree to play ball with Big Oil or they'll come gunning for his head too.

True and I congratulate this Bush administration for correcting a mistake made by Bush Sr, Rummy and Cheney in the 1970s, 80s and 90s.

Quote

Villains like Saddam Hussein are made in the U.S. as rationale for endless corporate war profits. Saddam was placed in power by the CIA. For years U.S. government agencies, under auspices of George Bush Sr., supplied him with chemical and biological weapons. Our national nuclear laboratories, along with Unisys, Dupont and Hewlett-Packard, sold Saddam materials for his nuclear program. Dick Cheney was CEO of Halliburton in the late 90s when its subsidiaries signed $73 million in new contracts to further supply Saddam. The wicked villain of Iraq was nurtured for decades as a cash-cow by U.S. military-industrial piranhas.

Wall Street Journal, 8-16-90: The CIA supported the Baath Party and installed Hussein as Iraqi dictator in 1968.

CIA review finds no evidence Saddam had ties to Islamic terrorists

I object only to the lies used as justification for invasion and occupation of Iraq and the fabrication of a connection to September 11th. Is this administration teaching our children that the end always justifies the means? Because that is the logic of the Islamic terror groups also.

Well for some sicko the answer to the thread title question must be Jar Jar.

I urge you not to click here Jar Jar Porn.

I'm serious it's not suitable for children, workplaces, mixed company or anyone who wants to never have seen Hentai Jar Jar 'in action'.

The link was provided by Movie City Geek News. Why? I don't know.

Probably for the same weird reson I'm compelled to post it here.

Seriously if you're faint of heart or your name is Darth Chaltab do not click the link. I gave you fair warning.

I grant you that and I will go one further and challenge Bush to strike at the heart of the terrorist enclave, Saudi Arabia.

It would cost your country $800 Billion dollars to do so and that's why Afghanistan and not Arabia was deemed a good enough target to satiate the blood lust of a nation.

I hate terror groups too but I'd like to see someone go after the source not just the edges.

If the soccer milfs of America weren't so addicted to driving gas guzzling SUVs to drop the kids of at the mall before afternoon pilates then you wouldn't be so dependant on the groups who hate you all so much. Stop buying their oil and they'll have less money to plan attacks on our countries. If they had no economic power then we really would be safer.

This goes beyond the Democrat or Republican party blame game, it rests on all of us to develop an economically viable clean efficient non fossil fuel to replace oil and petroleum.

If we could do that we'd be cutting their balls off. But it depends on a leader who is willing to cost America $800 Billion dollars in Saudi investment money.

How much is your safety worth? Our world leaders place your value at far less than that amount.

Now you have a problem with the word 'blown'?

I really don't think that there is an insidious 'feminising of males' secret agenda. If anything shows like Queer Eye just want to teach you how to look after yourself, moisturise and clean up your house.

I don't think that allowing gays in the military takes anything away from the job or promotes femininity amongst the ranks.

Darth Chaltab:
Heck. If there was no 9-11 attack, then we probably wouldn't be in Iraq.

Maybe, maybe not. It's moot. The truth is there was an attack on September 11th 2001 by Saudi Arabian terrorists from Osama bin Laden's well funded Al Qaeda network and there was NO actual connection to Iraq and yet...

EDIT: Removed a superfluous 'y' from the middle of Sept(y)ember.

Call me a prude if you will but I still maintain that lies which lead to sperm stains are far less troublesome than lies which lead to blood stains.

Exhibit A:
One large blue dress with sperm and saliva stains.

Exhibit B:
5000 approx Iraqi civilians killed since invasion
14000 approx Iraqi civilian casualties since invasion

1250 approx Coalition soldiers killed since invasion
8100 approx Coalition soldier casualties since invasion

I don't know about you but I know which lie I find more offensive and it has nothing to do with getting a blowjob from a heavy chick in the oval office.

Bush said that he isn't worried about bin Laden--he should be worried about us. That doesn't mean we aren't trying to catch him--but he belived to be in Pakistan where the troops aren't allowed.

Besides, Reg. Why do you, an Austrailian, care if he was misleading America. Isn't it sort of our problem.

Well I wish it was only your problem but unfortunately the job is self described as the leader of the free world and our toadying Prime Minister has his tongue so far up Bush's behind he doesn't seem to make any decision that his boss would disagree with, lest Bush should go over the UN's head and just bomb us too for not being with him and therefore being against him.

Truly I could care less who governs any other country in the world but like it or not the influence of the new Roman Empire extends far and wide and he who Presides over America Presides over the world. When the wrong man is in charge innocent people in far off countries die horrible deaths. They ought to just rename the position Emperor of Earth which it is until some other country steps up to the plate to play world policeman.

George W Bush is bad for America and what's bad for America is bad for the world.

Further to those so called 'exaggerations':

"I don't know where bin Laden is. I have no idea and really don't care. It's not that important. It's not our priority."

"I am truly not that concerned about him."

Now onto Iraq.

Rummy: An Immediate Threat

Some boring text.

Nuclear Weapons in Iraq

Assertion: In September 2002 Bush said, “I would remind you that when the inspectors first went into Iraq and were denied—finally denied access, a report came out of the Atomic—the IAEA, that they were six months away from developing a [nuclear] weapon. I don’t know what more evidence we need.” And on Meet the Press in March 2002, Cheney clearly claimed that Iraq was already in possession of “reconstituted nuclear weapons.”
Truth: In fact, the estimate to which Bush was referring was more than a decade old and was made before Iraq’s military capabilities were decimated in the Gulf War. Cheney later admitted that his claim, which contributed to the push for war, was false. (Pages 254, 263)

Bush Administration Spends Week Retracting Assertions about Saddam's Threat to the U.S.

The Bush administration this week backed away from three major rationales for going to war in Iraq last March, undermining its assertions that Hussein's Iraq posed an imminent threat to the United States and its allies.
September 11th
As recently as Sunday, Vice President Cheney, claimed that on the question of Saddam Hussein's involvement in September 11th, "We just don't know."1 But within days, both President Bush and Defense Secretary Rumsfeld each admitted there was no evidence that Hussein had any connection. On Wednesday, Bush maintained there was "no evidence" that Hussein was involved.2 Two days later, Rumsfeld, said, "I've not seen any indication that would lead me to believe that I could say that."3
Yet in March, Hussein's possible involvement in the terrorist attacks garnered support for the war from many Americans. At the time, the widely reported meeting between 9/11 planner Mohammed Atta and Iraq's security chief in Prague a few months before the attack was found by the CIA not to be credible.4
'Reconstituted Nuclear Weapons Program'
Recently, Cheney backed away from the assertion he made three days before the war began, that the strongest reason for going to war was that "we believe [Hussein] has, in fact, reconstituted nuclear weapons."5 But the International Atomic Energy Agency reported two weeks before that , "There was no indication of resumed nuclear activities."6 And six months later on Meet the Press, Cheney said simply, "I misspoke."7
Weapons of Mass Destruction
This week, Rumsfeld reversed earlier statements claiming that the U.S. knew where Iraq's weapons of destruction were located. When asked why the weapons hadn't been found, this past Tuesday Rumsfeld said, "What do you mean? You're talking about a country the size of California."8 Yet months ago, just two weeks into the war, Rumsfeld said, "We know where they are. They are in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."9

Not There From Operation Truth.

The mellifluous tones of Jesse Ventura.

There's some fun Flash files here. The site is heavily biased but so are all the above sites, (biased towards the truth that is. )

And just so I don't get accused of being a total Commie bastard here's some Nazi propaganda too Kerry 'Lied'. Personally I fail to see how speaking out against the well documented atrocities that were committed during a wasteful and futile ground war in Vietnam can be construed as a lie but it does make him seem like a bit of a 'peacenik'... "Damned liberal hippy". The ad is the same old Republican rhetoric which anyone familiar with Jimbo's regurgitations would have heard a hundred times already followed by a really stunning collection of Vietnam war photojournalism and heartstring music designed to make one angry that a man could turn his back on his fellow soldiers when that is far from the truth.

It's interesting to note that the best the reds can come up with to attack the blues with are so called 'lies' (from a certain point of view) made some thirty years ago by an angry young man who served his country. Kerry served in Vietnam during a time when the current leader was whooping it up with hookers and cocaine instead of reporting for his soft option duty in the Texas Air National Guard.

Whether Kerry lied or not about the monstrous actions taken by some soldiers during the war the truth is that Bush is still lying.

Bush Lies about watching plane hit:

QUESTION: One thing, Mr. President, is that you have no idea how much you've done for this country, and another thing is that how did you feel when you heard about the terrorist attack?
BUSH: Well... (APPLAUSE)
Thank you, Jordan (ph).
Well, Jordan (ph), you're not going to believe what state I was in when I heard about the terrorist attack. I was in Florida. And my chief of staff, Andy Card -- actually I was in a classroom talking about a reading program that works. And I was sitting outside the classroom waiting to go in, and I saw an airplane hit the tower -- the TV was obviously on, and I use to fly myself, and I said, "There's one terrible pilot." And I said, "It must have been a horrible accident."
But I was whisked off there -- I didn't have much time to think about it, and I was sitting in the classroom, and Andy Card, my chief who was sitting over here walked in and said, "A second plane has hit the tower. America's under attack."

There is a problem with the above statement. There was no live video coverage of the first plane hitting the tower. There couldn't be. Video of that first plane hitting the tower did not surface until AFTER the second plane had hit.

Since they can't seem to make Bush look good all they can try is to level the playing field by dragging Kerry's image down to meet Bush's.

True he didn't KNOW that the WTC would blow up, although intelligence reports stating "Bin Laden Determined to Attack Inside the United States" had been ignored (on purpose?).

And not true that his puppeteers didn't know about renewed US fighting and eventual occupation in Iraq as that little war was among their first day plans.

But I don't want to get into all of that again.

I hate the wool that has been pulled over the eyes of the public.

An exaggeration?

exaggeration, to exaggerate:
To represent as greater than is actually the case; to overstate.

Nope. Not an exaggeration. More like the truth, mortal enemy of the lie.

I'd like to see this thread become not so much a futile debate between opposing ideologies but more of a place to post VIDEO or AUDIO files (or text if you must be so archaic) of either side of the fence caught in a lie.

The Next Superman
Time
He's young because it's a three picture contract and they don't want to give teen idol hearthrob status to anyone over thirty, gotta get the young girls moist for Superman and woe-be-tide any executive who dares to suggest Superman could ever be mature AND sexy at the same time.

But in interviews the writer and director have stated that the character will be in his late twenties which is the age that Superman was in the first two Donner films. This doesn't exactly make sense alongside the missing for several years storyline but whatever.

They also stated that the earlier films will be referenced as a vague history and that clips may be used.

At this point I'm not even sure that after such a long gestation period WB even gives a crap anymore as long as they have a reason to slap Superman logos onto plenty of merchandise in a few years time. Not that I blame them, if anyone actually added up the expensive decade long preproduction on this puppy the budget would surely tip the scales as the most expensive movie ever made which has to be better than the most expensive movie never made.

Different is good.

Superman is a very malleable character.

Personally I think they should go with a hybridised John Byrne's "Man Of Steel" and Mark Waid's "Birthright" WITH McG at the helm.

Ric your very cynical and jaded outline of the potential McG Superman sounds a LOT like how the prequel films were made, with the exception of test screenings.
