What do think of the EU and what do you accept as Star Wars canon?
Time

I'm fully sane, but playing make-believe. If SW was based on historical events from a different galaxy such as in the opening line, then realistically the truth would be a mixture of fascinating and outright disappointing.

The Virgin Mary probably wasn't a drop-dead gorgeous supermodel dressed in blue and white. She would've been an everyday woman.

Maybe these are embellished stories based on information found in a time capsule from a now dead galaxy.

Scientists took devices from the capsule and reverse-engineered a lightsaber (the experiments are rough; the saber blade stays on for a few seconds, flickers out). "Jedi Knights" are the hypothetical warriors who would have wielded these. Translators worked tirelessly on a holographic card with scattered reports of war with an Empire and a devastating weapon. We have names of people, planets, species, technology, but it's difficult to piece it all together into something coherent. For all we know, Luke, Leia and Han lived in different time periods and never actually met.

Return of the Jedi: Radical Re-Edit (Released)
Time

Sounds like a plan!

Two new scenes I will adamantly defend in all future editions: Coruscant at the beginning and the sand storm. The details of the first may change in the future, but it does need to be there. Virtually the entire OT happens in the galactic sticks. For the film to be sandwiched between Coruscant shots, however brief, is to connect the major war to the galaxy at large. It helps to see the Emperor on his throne on the city planet. Far as the sand storm, that was shot because viewers needed a breather after the action-packed Jabba parts. We still do. It feels like a necessary break.

The extra scene of storm troopers versus rebels in the forest is interesting. The battle feels more wide-spread on Endor and overall bigger as a result. I feel we need one more added scene like that to help balance this one out. That feeling is abstract, yeah. We're seeing a battle that's borderline isolated from the bunker. In the future, when more high-quality material is available, I'd really want to see a second battle happening on the "border" of it all.

Why does no one read threads?

And the Thread Derailment Award goes to. . . AntcuFaalb?!

AnctuFaalb plays the part of Lois Lane. . . even though I think they're male. . . and coltonlolz would be Clark Kent trying to maintain his secret identity. In a thread about the Holiday Special.

What do you LIKE about the EU?

I listened to the ROTJ radio drama last evening and early this morning. I hesitated for the longest time because I knew it was half the length of the previous two and follows the film's story closely.

I almost abandoned it midway through CD 2. It added little up to that point.

But then I decided to keep listening, and glad I did.

The Ewoks become almost background after the village scene. They arrive to distract Imperial forces as they did in the film and that's pretty much it.

Luke and Leia's conversation on the bridge is easier listening.

The encounter between the Emperor, Vader, and Luke was an improvement over the film, even though those are some of the more classic scenes.

Vader's "No" in the blu-ray re-release of ROTJ was among the most meaningless and cringe-worthy changes. The drama does add lines to that scene, but the intensity and emotion of the actors won me over. It's superior.

EDIT: If someone would like to hear the final confrontation, I can upload a sample onto YouTube.

Star Wars: Episode VII to be directed by J.J. Abrams **NON SPOILER THREAD**
Time

1. New Jedi Order pioneered their gritty and brutal nature in the Star Wars universe and proved it can be effectively done. To the films, however, it will be new and fresh.

2. Religious extremism. I don't need to elaborate on that.

3. We're on a "creepy creature" invasion trend in films like these. Marvel's Avengers and Thor are great examples. Note: Marvel.

At this point I'd rather be left in the dark until it's all fucking done and over with.  This is ridiculous.

Meh. I'm more excited for the 2K Super8 scans I'm getting from poita.

(The Super8 grain makes the trilogy look more otherworldly than it already does, so I'd actually prefer to have a Super8 trilogy preservation over a 35mm trilogy preservation.)

Why not just unsubscribe from the -1 threads?

I thought I was the only person here who preferred a less than perfect picture quality to Star Wars. Especially for ESB.

I can't even think of an actual problem I've really encountered that it solves.

Our HTPC allows us to:

1. Watch things we download from Usenet on our TV; e.g., a 1.5GiB episode of Modern Family downloads in less than 5 minutes

2. Watch "webisodes"; e.g., Cinemassacre.com videos

3. Retrogaming (mostly NES using the Nestopia emulator) – we have USB NES controllers, so it mostly feels "real"

4. "Modern"gaming; e.g., we're playing the AVGN game on Steam right now

We don't use our HTPC exclusively, of course. We have tons of equipment, physical media, and video game consoles. Our HTPC does, however, act as a really convenient supplement.

This guy might as well have sent us a bag of dog s**t with "Star Wars" written on it.
