It contained 15 discs from all three radio dramas. Some say that these might have been edited but I am not sure. Will have to check it against my version.

There's actually two versions there on Amazon, if you go down to "product details" and click "all Editions" and the other version is significantly cheaper with the same amount of episodes and discs. The version you linked is the limited numbered version and has some kind of commentary and stuff like that if you click on the image of the cover you can read what it has.

Do you have the three separate Radio Dramas? Let me know what you find when you compare your version(s) to the one your friend gets. Thanks.

No, he's the number one man at Lucasfilm because he owns the company! The company was founded by him and is named LUCASFILM, not MurenFilm or BurttFilm or KurtzFilm or anything like that.

And regardless of how much "credit" someone takes, the film traditionally "belongs" creatively to the director, sometimes producer as well. Of course Lucas complains about Studio interference, and I agree with him there, but this isn't about credit, it's about preservation. I think our position should be that we don't care if he wants to fiddle with the trilogy, and tweak it until the cows come home and every five minutes offer the new version for sale---AS LONG as he keeps the original version available. I think that will be the most reasonable position that will appeal to both SW fans and film preservationists alike.

I do see where you're coming from. You think that if we focus on all that stuff, it'll end up being a jumbled mess. Trust me, it won't. All that stuff comes together to answer the "why" questions. If we don't have a "why," all this will be is a few star wars fans whining and complaining.

There are plenty of film preservationists out there who aren't star wars fans. Those are the ones we need to get a hold of. If we don't give them solid reasons to disagree with Lucas, they aren't going to care one way or the other.

I think that my approach addresses the concernes of the film preservationists perfectly without unneccessary insults, name-calling and, seemingly pointless, Lucas-bashing. Remember we don't want to come off as a bunch of bitter, disgruntled, Star Wars geeks just venting their anger towards Lucas. That approach won't win many friends, and will TOTALLY turn Lucas off, eliminating any chance we had (however infintessimly small) of swaying him.

Quote

It may sound like it will be taking on too much, but it really isn't.

If we do what you suggested, we'd only really have what you pointed out. That one quote concerning the colorization of The Three Stooges, and clips to show the differences between the OT and the '04 dvds. That's enough to tell people "we're star wars fans and we want the original trilogy." With all due respect, I think we need to convey a stronger message than that, such as "George Lucas has taken more credit than he deserves, and is a disgrace to filmmakers everywhere."

It's not just that your approach will muddy our focus and clutter the argument, its that it is unneccessary and counterproductive. When on the one hand you are so passionate about films that this man made and on the other are calling him "a disgrace to filmmakers everywhere" you come off as schizophrenic and kooky to the general public, including film preservationists who may otherwise agree with our main grievance of the suppression of the original cut, but don't identify with eccentric sci-fi fans. With all due respect, I really think that that is the wrong way to go. There's always time later for a bitter, scathing attack on Lucas, but aren't we trying to acheive something with this project?

Perfect 5th, that sounds great, thanks! If we could have it translated to French, that would be awesome. And what are your music composing & recording capabilities?

One last thing, Rattlehead, I don't recommend buying a generic brand computer for doing anything creative or professional. It will work, but you're limiting your options. Personally, I'd get an Alienware if I wanted to use a PC http://www.alienware.com/main_creative_pro.aspx. Think about it this way: Generic brand companies are targetting their products at home users who are interested in getting started, while the expensive companies offer what professionals actually need because they know professionals won't be scared away by the price. If you're comfortable with using a Mac (most people aren't for some reason) I highly recommend a PowerMac G5.

Thanks for the input on the computer, but a Mac just isn't an option for me right now. I won't be being employed as a video editor and don't have the money to get a mac just for that reason (and Macs are expensive too). Maybe in the future if I have enough disposable income, I'll get a Mac just to be dedicated for tha purpose. The Alienware, while an awesome computer, is just too expensive. I just don't have the money to buy computers that "start" at 3K right now. I wasn't planning on getting a "generic" brand either. I was planning on getting a name brand, either Sony Vaio, or Hewlett Packard. Those are both decent products, and right now my choice is basically narrowed down to the "media center" versions of those two brands. I really just need to know the pros and cons of each so I can choose between them. Thanks everyone for the advice on the comps, but so far they are way out of my price range, so telling me to get a PowerMac or an Alienware is like saying "Get an Avid." It's just not a viable choice right now. I'm aware that when I get a factory-configured consumer model I will not have the ultimate video editing machine, but that's fine, because that's all I have the money for, and it's not like video editing is my job, I just need to know the best choice of the models that are affordable to me.

Correct. I'm just waiting on some software that would assist me in cleaning up the picture for the anamorphic version. There's a lot of shit in frame that needs to be fixed.

"I was also under the impression that even though the 1995 THX "Faces" transfer was better, the 1993 Definitive Collection LD source was still higher quality because it was CAV format."

It only means the individual frames are cleaner. Plus, older LD players were only able to do tricks like visual pause/rewind/fast forward with CAV disks. Later players were better equipped to do these tricks with CLV as well. In terms of overall play, it really didn't make a tremendous difference (except in overall running time per side.)

"I was also wondering HOW LaserDiscs can be analog..."

Just because it uses a laser, doesn't mean it's digital. It's essentially like a record player, in that the signal is stored as the actual wavelengths. This is the one good things about using laserdisc for a master - the audio and video are not compressed, unlike DVD. (However, a laserdisc with AC3 or DTS does have a digitally compressed/stored soundtrack.)

Thanks for the explanations MeBeJedi. I can't wait to see your set. Keep us updated! How much do you think you'll be selling the set for? And do you think you'll be able to have them factory punched like the current Dual Layer set?

Thanks everyone for all the input on the computers. I still need to talk to Vaio (Media Center) owners and HP (Media Center) owners though.

Anyway, D0CT0R_W40, I don't think we should get too caught up in proving that Lucas has "lied" or contradicted himself, that's irrelevant. Besides anyone who has given as many interviews as he has will have some inconsistencies, and he is allowed to change his mind. Who cares if he said he was only going to direct one prequel and wound up directing all three? It doesn't matter, we don't even care about the Prequels anyway, we only care about the OT. So, I think we should just stick to our concerns about preserving the original cut of the OT and that's it. We should come at it from a film preservationists perspective. On that note we can and certainly should point out that Lucas used to say that he was concerned with film preservation (like the whole Three Stooges thing for example) and now is trying to bury the original versions of his own films. That's relevant, so it should be pointed out. However, if we just get into a pattern of pointing out Lucas' inconsistencies and contradictions whether they relate to our cause or not, the film will look like an unorganized, rambling, pointless anti-Lucas diatribe. We want to avoid that. We need to be VERY focused on our objective here.

Our objective: Educating Star Wars and film fans about the plight of the original versions of the OT and creating in the viewer a desire to watch these original versions, preserve them and own a digital copy of them. This will hopefully lead to an active fan demand and outcry that hopefully Lucas can not ignore which in the best-case scenario would result in Lucas relenting and releasing the original versions of the OT on DVD, and hopefully on all subsequent dominant video formats.

The tone we should take when pointing out a Lucas hypocrisy (such as the stooges example) is dissappointment and sadness, the first stage of emotion when your hero dissappoints you. We should not take an angry, abusive, insulting tone towards Lucas, because that is not exactly going to make him want to please us and it may turn off SW fans who don't mind the changes, casual SW fans and the like who, if given a choice would like to have the original OT on DVD.

Thanks Bossk! Do you happen to know what the opening week sale price was at Suncoast? Walgreens charged $69!! Damn! Well, at least the number was appropriate, because they were fucking anyone who bought it there! LOL!!

If anyone here has friends who bought it with cash and can get their reciept, then that would be awesome too. Any help is appreciated.

Bossk-- I see your point about bandwidth. But the bootleg list wouldn't be a problem, would it? If we wanted screenshots and maybe even cover art created specifically for that bootleg, they could be linked to another site where someone else could volunteer to host them.

Rebel Rouser -- Good idea about the freebies. I don't have any covers that I created myself, I'm just looking to get a complete idea of what is out there. I found a lot of cool stuff on http://www.cdcovers.cc/ but that site is the slowest, buggiest, most tempermental site I've ever encountered. Plus, a lot of the covers weren't that high res. A lot of the covers I downloaded from there I'd like to get better copies of.

Info Wanted: What versions is Rikter trading?
Time
Honestly it's taken me hours and hours to sift through the threads here to gather what info I already have. I'm sorry if adding another thread is so distressing to you. I guess I'll PM Rikter so I don't add to the clutter. But honestly its quite a daunting task to sift through the hundreds of theads in here, many of which run on for pages and pages and pages. I'm getting frustrated at this point. The Webmasters should put up some informative pages with some basic facts and lists so we don't have to sift through millions of posts to find the info we need....or bother someone with PMs when they probably get hundreds of PMs and we aren't sure if we will buy anything from them. I didn't want to waste Rikter's time but I guess I'll have to add to the many PMs I'm sure he's getting.

EDIT-- I PM'ed Rikter so I guess the mods can close this thread. Thanks.

MeBeJedi -- So are you making both anamorphic and letterboxed (non-anamorphic widescreen for anyone who is confused) versions or just the letterboxed version?

What about Zion and Laserman? What are they making? Anamorphic or non? Or both?

And, are all of you using the "Faces" LDs? Some of you? Which ones? What is the source for the other ones if they aren't using the "faces" set?

I was also under the impression that even though the 1995 THX "Faces" transfer was better, the 1993 Definitive Collection LD source was still higher quality because it was CAV format. I found it odd that LFL would put a superior transfer on LDs in an inferior format but that's what I understood to be the case. So, do you guys feel that the "Faces" LDs are better quality and will produce a better DVD transfer?

I haven't bought any sets yet and I'm wondering which ones are worth it. In the meantime while you three are working on your transfers, I will definetly get the TR47 version, but maybe I'd do well to wait until you three are done before I get any additional sets. What do you think? Obviously if your Anamorphic sets are better than there's no reason to waste time/money with the Dr.Gonzo or Farsight versions.

Have any of you thought about getting your versions professionally pressed? I would love the chance to get factory pressed OT DVDs, and judging by the excitement surrounding your transfers they sound like they certainly deserve that treatment. Being that we can buy professionally produced slipcase tins it would be great if the discs themselves looked that good as well.

Also, does anyone know anything about the new set TR47 is making? I say set, but I only saw one reference to it somewhere in these forums and I can't remember if he said he had this great source for all three films or just ANH. What exactly IS his source? I remember the phrase "Master tapes."

Sorry for the million questions but I just have so many, I can't help myself! lol

I was also wondering HOW LaserDiscs can be analog...I just assumed because they used optical laser technology that they must be digital like DVDs and CDs. How exactly are they analog? I never had a LD player or even knew anyone who did, so all I know about them I learned from this forum and various other sources online. I have no firsthand knowledge though.

Thanks THX and Obi.

As far as covers in general though, I've noticed that many of the links on this thread have been taken down or are broken. Where can I find all the covers that are being produced here? Who's site has all of them and how can I go to the site? Are all the covers collected in one place? Anyone offering a CDR with all the covers on it?

We should really have OT.com host all the covers, that way they'd all be in one place and easy to find and download. They should be not in a thread but permanently in another section of the site.

This site should also have a non-thread section with a list of all the known bootlegs with their common names, their specs, screenshots and reviews. This way all the bootlegs would be listed in one place where we could compare them. The amount of different versions are increasing at a dizzying rate. People are mentioning ones that I haven't heard of constantly and I can't keep up with them. I can't even remember all of them. We really need to have a sort of bootleg catalog.

I remember listening to my friend's ANH set on cassette. And I bought a ROTJ set on cassette on clearance at Barnes & Noble. They were both good, but the ANH was better. It was awesome. I don't think I've heard the ESB set.

Anyone know where one can buy these sets on CD, new preferably? And preferably other than Ebay.

Now, I know there were separate CD sets of each one, but was there one big set or something too? Meloveu mentions a combined ANH and ESB set. What sets are available?

Will Suncoast give me cash back without a receipt? Thanks for your help.

Anyone have a more detailed explanation of how to print Scara's covers on foil paper or transparency or whatever, and where to get these things? I've seen transparency sheets in Staples, but never foil paper. And are the regular "overhead projector" type transparencies the right type?

Ramandu -- we'd all appreciate the correction of the typos. I could probably fix them too, but I don't have that much training with photoshop and it'd be a pain in the arse to fix the text and preserve the background. If you are good enough with the program to do it relatively painlessly, we'd all appreciate that. And maybe you would know how to deal with this foil and/or transparency deal too.

Where are the full-res images for the boxes? That shot of the spines lined up is of the slipcase spines, right? And how does one make a box for the keepcases (like a slipcase)? The only way I could think of is by cutting it out of cardboard and bending and gluing it by hand. Sluggo had a good question, is there anywhere we could buy blanks like this?

I posted this on the SE Vs. OT forum, but in case some people here don't frequent that forum here it is again:

Did anyone here buy the official DVD set and pay cash at a major national retail chain such as Sam Goody, Toys R Us, Circuit City, Best Buy, Coconuts, Tower Records, FYE, Wal-Mart, Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc.? And, if so, did you save your receipt? If you did save your receipt and are satisfied that your set is free of defects, could you mail me your receipt? I received a trilogy set as a gift and the person who gave it to me lost the receipt. So, now if I try to return it, they'll insist on giving me store credit without the receipt, but I don't want store credit, I want the money. So, obviously the more you paid for your Trilogy, the better! lol. I know some places have them as low as 41 or 42 dollars (like Best Buy) and other places, like Scam Goody, I think, are selling it as high as $51.99 or something like that. If anyone can help, please PM me. I'd really appreciate it! Thanks in advance for any help!

I believe that one aired right after Episode I came out or when it came out on video or something. I remember it focusing mostly on Episode I and the effects breakthroughs that led up to it (like Jurassic Park), correct me if I'm wrong. I think I taped it off TV when it aired, but I don't think it was ever released commercially in any form.

That's the one where he says "The double bladed lightsaber. When you absolutely have to kill every droid in the room." Which was an adaptation of his line about a machine gun from "Jackie Brown."

Does anyone know of anyone offering the famous (and hopefully not-so-famous) deleted scenes on DVD? You know like Anchorhead, Wampas in Echo Base, Sandstorm, etc? And is that VCD with all the trailers available as a DVD?

Darth Mallwalker -- Is that the torrent site you're talking about. And, pardon my ignorance as I'm new to this, but what exactly is a torrent? Is that the only way to get that version or is it available on disc?

TR47 -- I would like to order your 7 disc set. Are you swamped, or can I PM you and place my order now? Also, you seem to be familiar with that set that 120inna55 posted the link to, what "deleted scenes" are on that set and are the same ones on your supplemental discs? Speaking of deleted scenes, is anyone offering a disc that contains all the famous (and maybe not-so-famous) deleted scenes like Anchorhead, Wampas, sandstorm, etc?

Jetrell Fo -- This 1997 DVD9 Widescreen SE dual-layer set, is that the 5 Star set? I would like to get an SE set to use for my edit. Also, is the Farsight set available on disc? And, can you link me to this main review thread?

Thanks again for all your help, guys and gals.
