Star Wars OT & 1997 Special Edition - Various Projects Info (Released)
Time

As far as footage goes, we've only seen 3PO mention Leia, but not actually encounter her. The very moment he walked in on her and R2, she jumped away behind a colon. I'm pretty sure someone as 'unimportant' as 3PO, at least on that particular consular ship, never got to see its consul. Therefore, he probably knew of the Princess, and her history, since it was common talk amongst the crew members, but never got to see her in person, which could perfectly explain why he did not know who the lady in the hologram was. Not to mention he got his memory wiped in ROTS.

The top shot looks like Luke is at the beach on a sunny day. The bottom (v3) shot looks Luke is on a cold freezing stormy tundra.

Evidently the v3 hits the mark. The original SW filmmakers may have color corrected this particular scene toward a bluish tint to suggest coldness. This is an artistic application of lighting.

I couldn't agree with you more, well put.

Of course I agree as well, but I was only asking :)
Thanks for the feedback d_j.

Hey D_J, quick question.
I compared your ESB GOUT v3 to ady's ESB Theatrical, and noticed a remarkable difference in brightness, contrast, etc... (see below).
What was done differently exactly?
Ady's original OT post (also see below) mentions he used the colour-corrected version, so are we to assume yours isn't corrected?
(I left out his original screenshots btw)

Specs:

Video:- NTSC DVD 16:9 Anamorphic DVD-5
Audio:- 5.1 dolby digital surround
Subtitles:- None
Menus:- None

Created using the colour corrected ESB version used for my AVCHD '97 SE, elements of the GOUT and other higher quality elements to improve theatrical scenes eg. matte painting scans

Now this isn't a 100% true theatrical version as i didn't want to use the low quality GOUT to replace the newly zoomed and cropped cockpit shots that appear in the SE version but all of the SE elements have been removed. There are a few shots that i had to use the GOUT but i have used some filters and mixed in other higher quality elements where possible so the change in quality doesn't jump out at you like it would if i had just replaced a shot with the GOUT.

The audio has been created using the laserdisc SE 5.1, an upmix from the PCM laserdisc track, surround channels from the 2004 DVD & music soundtrack.

I know that there is some projects going on at the moment that are recreating the theatrical versions, but with the 30th anniversary of ESB getting so close it doesn't look like any of them will be appearing in time so i hope i don't piss anyone off by jumping in with this version.

It will be a barebones DVD with no menus or subtitles

Now the mpeg rendering and DVD authoring will be completed overnight and will start appearing in the a.b.starwars newsgroup Wednesday evening and should be completed uploading the following day, so plenty of time to get it for the 30th anniversary on Friday

STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW

I bought my original 'fat' PS3 launch model back in 2007 in Belgium (aka PAL), and have been playing burned DVD5s, DVD9s, fanedits, etc.. etc.., both in PAL and NTSC format. Never had an issue anywhere. Not with any single disc.

The only thing I do is burn all my DVDs through Nero Recode, because for some reason DVDShrink doesn't recognize my Nero installation anymore.
Not that I care, since Recode works fine.

this will be my bowing out gracefully to anything SW, IMHO this set will be a GREAT companion piece to go with the retail Saga release this Fall, again this is ONLY my opinion, I know this will not be for everyone, I am sure just a select few.

and for the V3, they are done and final, I just need to find time and upload them, not sure if I am going to upload the VIDEO_TS folder and let everyone do there own layer-break, or if I should upload the image file with all that done for you, all you have to do is burn, I also moved the chapters manually to put them in line with the retail, and tweaked the menu's a bit as well.

So there you have it, my next update, who knows.

And what a final curtain call it will be, I'm sure.
Companion piece? If my fears become reality, it will most likely become a replacement!

I'm okay with an image file. I'm sure it will work out fine the way you created it.

I let my enthusiasm get the best of me, I suppose.
It slipped my mind these edits haven't passed the test fase yet.
Come to think of it, only 1 person reviewed them here as of yet.

NEVER said the V3 could not be shared, I only said it should not be shared until ALL have checked everything over, and we all found nothing wrong, so you sir, have been mis informed.

Makes perfect sense.
Out of respect for DJ's immense work, and to sort of assure myself I don't misinterprate stuff anymore, I'll just keep reading along from now on.
As opposed to ESB:R, there's nothing for me to contribute here anyway.

What the hell DJ? You've specifically denied people permission to share V3? What the fuck? I thought this place was a community?

Wow. Serious buzzkill.
Many people (if not all), frequently visited this thread in the hopes of an online upload.
Isn't that what every editor here does at the end of the day?
Upload their stuff for fellow OT's?

2004 version looks awful. Some pictures only show a slight change between the avchd and revisited, but a change for the better nevertheless.
I love the new crater. Yet another logical addition by ady which GL and his team missed. Of all the things that make so much sense, yet they didn't add, this ranks the highest... so far...

I just watched the 1080p clip on my computer with VLC. At any rate, on my 22" monitor alone it looked fantastic. Maybe it's just my imagination, but the image seems just a bit crisper compared to any earlier clips you've shared.

Bar the small notifications, same here.
Image was fantastic.
And I watched it on a standard HP Compaq LA1951g 19" monitor (at work!).
Wonder what it will look like at home, on my superior 22" :)

Alright, well, I've received the discs in the mail. Preliminary report (I've only skimmed a bit of SW):

- Image quality is simply awesome compared to the letterboxed GOUT. The MKV sample is a very good indicator of the overall quality of this release.
- Subtitles are perfect!
- Chapters start slightly too early each time. It's like the chapter stops are timed for the PAL GOUT instead of the NTSC, so while they start just fine, by the end they start about 10 seconds too early.
- There's a little bit of a blue tint to the stars in some scenes, but it's hardly noticeable, and it's nowhere near as bad as the ROTJ GOUT.
- I really wish that choosing an audio option either took you back to the main menu, or started the movie, but that's a nitpick
- I've spot-checked every audio mix at each chapter stop, and they all seem to sync perfectly

Further updates as I have them. I will say this, though - from everything I've seen so far, this by far the definitive GOUT enhancement project, and possibly the definitive representation of the OOT on DVD.

Your updates are making me drool, Ash...
Not a good thing, 'cause my desk is over-flooding and the floor is all wet.
All I have is Ash' words to go by, but I'm getting ridiculously excited!!!
