Idea: Preserving those theater pre-movie/intermission bits...
Time

I have a tape somewhere of 50’s and 60’s drive-in intermission food ads and trailers. But I was wondering if anyone has anything like that from the 70’s or 80’s? And not just limited to drive-ins. Maybe the pre-movie bit that advertised the theaters, etc…

Just for nostalgia sake they would be fun to watch.

I bet most of these bootleggers don't watch all of the films they are re-distributing (selling) all the way through. They probably just skip through the chapters and get a quick feel. So maybe the fan editors should make up alternate versions of their edits and filter them to the bootleggers. These edits would start off fine but then maybe all of a sudden 1/2 way through switch to an episode of Little House on the Prairie. If someone dumped $20 bucks for the title they will be out for blood the next time they see that seller at a convention/show/ etc...to get they money back.

Unfortunately due to the fact that both edits have been issued to members of the film's cast and/or crew they are being kept "under wraps" you could say to prevent them from being sold by bootlegers. The X-Cut was produced specifically for cast members and given to them at a Phantasm "reunion" event I believe.

even use footage from multiple episodes to compile your own mst3k episode... hell, you could cut something and let them mst3k a simpsons episode!

yes.... thats what i need...

A recut with a different film might be a bit quirky. The jokes wouldn't make much sense. There is a guy who has done his own MST3K episodes. I came across one of Star Trek V that he did.

The Gong Show Movie (scroll down the thread for project info) (Released)
Time

I don’t believe this was ever released on DVD. So for those that might be interesed in preserving a copy I noticed over the weekend that one of the Sundance channels was broadcasting it. I’m sure it will have a few runs in the coming weeks. As far as I know this was only released on VHS.

I always see the same guy at shows and for years he has been selling boot copies of the Frighteners extended cut from the Laserdisc. Even now with the DVD of the Director's cut out there. And he charges $40 for it. According to him it is to re-coop the money he had to shell out for the laserdisc. Yah right!! And I'm sure in the last 5 years he hasn't made that money back yet!!!???

The jokes are so dated and the story is so boring... There is just no point.
I'll make a set with extended versions of "Strikes Again" and "Return of", and that's all.

"Trail", "Curse" and "Son of" need to be lost forever.

Good call.

In a similar vein, Star Trek IV with some Horner/Goldsmith instead of that christmas music would be interesting.

I second that. Although I always felt the children were more like the Ewoks in Return of the Jedi. Either way they need to go.

Info Wanted: What is the best Episode 4 Edit to incorporate deleted footage?
Time
I myself am contemplating a "virtual" lost cut as mentioned in another thread. I'm just wondering if it might go over my head and become too complex. The last time I did an edit it was 1 year from the time I started gathering footage until the edit was completed and burned to disc. I didn't work on it day in and day out. I spent a few months gathering....many months moving.....and two full months doing nothing but editing every night for hours until it was complete. This project would be more difficult. But allow for more creativity.

Also one thing I would want to have is a complete version (most likely a composite from many sources) of the original Jabba footage. And I don't think we have that in full. We have most of it but not every last bit.

Also, can you explain to me the few details unknown to a guy from non-English speaking country? It is not a joke, I really do not know nothing about the TV channel. In the LD archives they mention both CBS and ABC abbreviations. What is the connection between these two?

I believe it is:

American Broadcasting Channel (ABC)
Central Broadcasting System (CBS)

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

They are just 2 different, competing television networks.

I think we are at the point where this thread ought to be combined with the other one on "the best edit that re-incorperates lost footage".

This would be an edit that I would watch all the time. No joke. Convert the whole thing to a rough cut look, make it in black and white, add projector noise instead of the sound, the works.

That is exactly what I was thinking. Just an all out fun take on what it might look like. Knowing it probably isn't even close. But who cares. We could try to match all of the footage to the original cantina B&W footage.

Okay, Sluggo's posted so I will.

Doetzer's edits are as fascinating as they are silly. He's got some fun ideas, which are very entertaining to watch and the kind you'd get from listening to the radio drama while high. It's a lot of nonsense bearing no resemblance to the original Star Wars script, yet watchable.

I (with the vast help and research of Sluggo and others) worked as thoughtfully as I could to slap deleted and making of footage into the film in an entertaining manner. None of the deleted footage is finished or in releasable quality, and it's all quite silly, so it was necessary to give the film a more documentary/comedic tone.

I am offended when someone asks "What is the best Episode 4 Edit to incorporate deleted footage?" and then adds, "Oh yeah, besides that."

The Biggs footage can't be put into a straightforward movie version because it's crap quality and hasn't been released in the same quality and etc etc etc etc etc.

This is as close as you'd want to get. And yeah, I do feel slightly insulted.

I wanted to say that I in no way meant to insult you. So please accept my apology. Don't forget I provided footage for your edit. And I show it all the time to friends.

I have a buddy who I wanted to show an extended cut of ANH to. He isn't a die hard SW fan like myself or the rest of us. He has seen some of DM when he was over my place but wants something more basic. It doesn't matter if the footage doesn't match the quality of the released material. It is just to get a feel for some missing scenes and how they would have fit into the film. So my intentions were for him.

So to change my request. If I am looking for a version of ANH containing deleted scenes that is not done with a "documentary/comedic" tone what would I be looking for?

And just to mention there have been a number of edits I have seen that utilize footage of lesser quality. In many cases that is all that is available. And these edits are not intended for wide official release anyway so who cares. Actually Fox's extended version of Alien 3 in their box set includes footage of lesser quality even to the extent that the audio is near inaudible and requires subs to find out what they are saying. So if studios can do it why can't fan editors?
