Where can we get Episode 1?
Where can we get Episode 1?

No, not really. Have you any suggestions? I was thinking maybe "perfect edition" in reference to Ash calling the Alien a perfect organism, but I thought the reference was a bit thin.
No. I can't think of any really. If I had a good one I might save it in case I do another version of Redux. lol.
Any other ideas for the title? Since it is more of a final cut then "workprint" doesn't fit.
What did you do with Saturn 3? I love that b flick.

A first rough test of some concepts for Luke's view of the pursuit...
It's rough as hell. No animated laser blasts yet. The matte on the binoculars is a bit wonky. It needs extra info overlays and crosshairs etc. Plus I'll pan and zoom the shot around as if Luke is focusing in on the action. I might even try going in and out of focus.
Thoughts?
Looks good. But add a bit of shaking. There is no way Luke could hold them that steady.
I'm curious to see how this turns out.
You know you could use the color from the LD capture and incorporate it into the B&W image from the bluray for the best clarity. This process has even been done professionally to colorize old Dr Who episodes.
One think I want to suggest to both "Lost Cut" creators is to possibly replace all the space battle scenes with footage of models/toys in their place. Wasn't Lucas not pleased with the initial battle footage? So replace it with raw scenes. This would be for someone who is adventurous in order to make the edit more of a completely different film like the "Lost Cut" is supposed to be.
Just a suggestion.

This is actually one of my original plans for this project. The one thing I'm still thinking about is if I should replace the star fields during the Death Star battle with a blue screen or keep the stars how they are.
I say replace them. If you are going for the "Lost Cut" look go all out.
I really like this project idea. One suggestion I have is to remove any matte paintings by using photos from numerous books and magazines over the years that would show a scene without the final look to them. For example the Jawa Sandcrawler and the chasms of the Death Star.

I'm a bit confused. There are already tapes from the 1984 airing. Why would you need to recreate it?
I would sure like to check these out.
I hope someone extracts those clips and uploads them someplace.

Wow the list of clips looks amazing. I want to see all that stuff.

Are you going to add in some of the new rinzler ebook clips to the project?
What are these?

I have a copy of the Movie FX video magazine issue. I had more copies at the time but sold them.
I love this cheezy little flick. I myself have only the pan & scan version. I hope you can find someone to tackle this one.
Can I add some suggestions?
I believe the scene where C3PO is tangled in the wires on the falcon was actually shot for the beginning of the film. It would go at about 4:28 in your edit so far after he and R2D2 make it across the battle scene without getting blasted.
Also the Lost Cut is supposed to have a documentary feel with lots of scenic shots. You may want to add some desert scenes from other films.
And you may want to remove matte shots with images like these:

Well ones without the added text that is. LOL
Didn't Lucas use the battle scenes from Tora, Tora Tora in his rough edit? I thought I remember reading that someplace.
I am very excited about this edit. It is something I wanted to do but I don't have the expertise. I have been suggesting it for years hoping someone would tackle it eventually.
I love the idea of a movie of this novel. Probably the only way it will get made is a fan project. So we can only hope.

This is the black and white version with Han making out with the girl in the cantina, right?
Yes.

Are all of the Star Wars deleted scenes on the bluray? Like the shots of our heroes whistling with their guns behind their backs to look innocent as they stroll past imperial officers? I don't think all of the "Lost Cut" material is available.. is it?
Nope. So much is missing from the Bluray set. And the quality of some of the scenes are awful. But Lucas thinks we believe his bs that this is all there is and that the negatives all look that bad.

It sounds like The War Of The Stars without the gags.
No not really.
