Info: Clarifying The Mystery of Kenner's Last 17 & Other Stuff
Time

Most of this is probably old news to long time collectors, but here goes.

I’ve noticed (especially on other sites) that there is a bit of confusion as to what were or weren’t the so called final 17 figures. Well, I pulled out my trusty EV-9D9 action figure card and took a look. To the novice or uneducated it would appear that Lumat and Paloo are included as part of the last 16 figures (17 when you count Yak Face). However, this is not the case. Paloo and Lumat were part of the last series of ROTJ figures. Why they are shown in the line with the final figures is a mystery. So in actuallity there were only 15 final figures released by Kenner as their new Power of the Force collection. Picturing these two figures with the final series of figures has led to people thinking that Kenner produced a final 17 new figures. Just take a look at the listings on ebay and you’ll see what I mean. Has this erroneously lead to these two rather common ewoks to be priced higher on the open market? It would seem so. Although I don’t have any hard evidence to that effect. Of course anyone in the know would immediatly figure out which two ewoks were part of the final 15. Those are Warok and Romba not Lumat and Paloo.

So, if you are looking for the final 15 Kenner figures, here is a reference list.

A-Wing Pilot
Amanaman
Anakin Skywalker
Barada
Lando Calrissian (General Outfit)
EV-9D9
Han Solo in Carbonite Chamber
Imperial Dignitary
Imperial Gunner
Luke Skywalker (Stormtrooper Disguise)
Luke Skywalker (Battle Poncho)
R2-D2 with pop-up Lightsaber
Romba
Warok
Yak Face

Kenner also wasn’t consistent with how many figures there actually were. The POTF series lists that there are 92 action figures to collect. This is incorrect. There are 96 all together. 92 plus the original R2-D2, original C-3PO, R2-D2 with sensorscope and Yak Face. If you include the blue Snaggletooth (some count him but I don’t) then there are 97. Things can get really complicated if you start to count different variations of the figures. For example, Han Solo with a small head and Han Solo with a large head or Ben Kenobie with white hair and beard and Ben Kenobie with grey hair and beard. I don’t know of all of the different variations on the figures. I can say that if you got Bossk free versus buying him in the store, there are parts of the free one that isn’t painted (namely his costume around the legs) while the store bought one is painted. It would be interesting to note all of the different variations. If you know of any please go ahead and post it. I’d be curious to see what was done differently.

Klingon, your post didn't go unread nor unheard. And you're right. I shouldn't let this get to me nor should I be giving Jimbo the dignity of a response. Being who I am, I let it go as long as I could and then just had to speak up. Enough was enough.

However, at this point it's doing me no good to continue to battle the point with him. Ignoring him is best.

Advise taken. It's time to move on and let this thread die. Thanks for the dose of reality, logic and level headedness.

I have to agree with Luke and Obi-wonton on this. While Watto didn't bother me all that much, Jar Jar did. Using CG to 'supplement' scenery or armies is fine. LOTR did an excellent job of combining the old technology (modles and costumes) with the new (CGI). Using CG for backgrounds or space battles is one thing, but like Obi said, cartoon like CGI characters are rather distracting.

The main problem with both of the PT films is simply there is too much use of CG. Instead of Lucas constructing real sets and props, he's taken the easier road (some would say lazy) and just left it up to computer animators. True certain puppets like Sy Snootles didn't exactly give us that 'life like' quality but that CGI Sy Snootles looked even more fake than the puppet. Dex, just didn't seem to look as real to me as he could have. The character didn't bother me, except for the crack shot. Stupid stuff like that is just unneeded. Also the creature that farted in TPM. Aren't there better ways to get the kids to laugh than fart jokes? Anyway, I digress. LOTR has pushed the envelope for CGI more than the PT has. LOTR has shown that the proper use of CG can enhance the film instead of taking it over. Lucas has let his fascination with CGI smother his story, and his characters. He's sacrifised great story telling for mere eye candy.

While I support the use of CGI when appropriate, I dislike CGI just for the sake of CGI.

You are rude and hateful and we quite simply don't need it any more.

I'll second that.

Polls taken this year show 55% of the country is opposed to gay marriage. Which is why I wonder why the other 45% of the popultation take such a majority on this site.

This has nothing to do with proving that being gay is a disease or a mental disorder. Once again, you avoid answering the question by spouting useless information.

Being gay is a mental disorder. A disease. They are not normal. It is all psychological. They choose to be gay in the same way I choose to hate gays.

It's quite obvious that Jimbo hasn't done his psychology homework. Being gay was denounced as a mental disorder by the psychologists decades ago. All this is Jimbo, is your narrow minded bigoted view point. Hatred is the disease and you are obviously a carrier.

And further more, every psychological study done in the last 20 years has stated that a persons sexual orientation is fixed and unchangable. There is no 'choice' involved. Perhaps you should do a little research before you spout off about something you obviously know nothing about. However, doing research would mean that you're willing to educate yourself and judging by your previous blabberings I don't see that happening.

You're the one spreading the hate around here.

Thanks Sean. I've looked on ebay for them. I've just started to research them to see what they have gone for in the past so that I know where abouts my maximum bid should be so that I get them.

Bossk. The B-Wing pilot is from the ROTJ series. The A-Wing pilot is in the POTF last 17 set. The only one I have from that set is EV-9D9.

I've nver been a fan of the blue Snaggletooth. It's nice and all, but I like my red one the best.

Also, after the disaster of the first film, fans wanted a more 'action packed' film. Something a little closer to the series. Khan delivered that. I think at the time, if I'm remembering my Trek history, that was going to be the last one so they pulled out all the stops. They wanted to give the fans a great film to go out on.

Of course, it made so much money that they continued the franchise.

What I could never understand was, Kenner only produced 20 figures from the first movie. Only 20 for ANH? And besides that, they never made a Tarkin, Uncle Owen, or Aunt Beru figures. I can sort of understand Owen and Beru, but Tarkin? I just wish that there had been more figures for the first movie. Especially Tarkin. 20 just didn't seem like enough.

There were way more than 20 for Empire and Jedi.

Of the Star Trek movies, the best is Khan. Hands down. However, my favorite one is The Voyage Home. I just loved the humor in that one and it came off as just a well rounded good movie. I loved Undiscovered Country, but Sulu should have been on the Enterprise. After the disaster of 5, there was no way that the original crew was going to get a lousy send off. 6 had to kick some ass. Thank God, Nicholas Meyer came back to direct. I think that is what saved that movie. The Search for Spock I liked better than I thought I would. The Final Frontier is just dreadful. Something went seriously wrong with that movie. I'd like to blame Shatner, but something tells me that he's not totally to blame. And The Motion Picture, well, I have a better affection for it since the Director's Cut came out on DVD. The film still isn't good it is at least more watchable.

The Next Gen movies haven't been all that great I'm sorry to say. First Contact was really good, but for Nemisis just fell a little bit short. I think that a longer cut of the film could really help that one. Generations is just lost. That film went no where and did nothing. Insurection. Well, I'm sort of torn on that one. I like it on a certain level but it would have been better as just an episode of the TV show. That's been the Next Gen's main problem with their movies. They just play out as BIG episodes of the show. Which is fine to a certain degree, but it really doesn't make for top grosses at the box office.

I still say that as far as new movies or more TV series after Enterprise, Trek is pretty much dead. It has been beaten to death. We have more than enough Trek to last us another 30 years. Let it rest for a while. Not long. Maybe five to ten years, but let it rest.
