So Did George Lucas Really Rape Our Childhood?
Time
Rennervision first let me say welcome to the boards. I too, was greatful to find this site and get away from all of the Lucas worship on the official site and other places. While I didn't post on these other sites, I did read and it became clear to me that my thoughts and opinions wouldn't be welcome on those boards.

I'm nost sure who first coined that phrase 'Lucas raped my childhood.' I don't believe that he has. There isn't any way to erase the memories that I have of Star Wars nor can Lucas alter them. They are mine. However, I have lost some respect for him. Not so much for the prequels, but for the Special Editions. While there are things in the Special Editions that I like and even some that I can live with, most fall into the 'why bother-we get it' category. At least for me.

Lucas' refusal to release the original version of these films on DVD is what really bugs me. But I have great bootlegs and I can live with those.

Info: I Did It! Completed My Kenner Figures Set
Time
Luke, well I'm not sure what I'll do with them. Since I don't have kids and I'm certainly not planning any, I don't know what will become of them.

Once I pass on to the great beyond, those things should be worth quite a bit. Especially since I have all of the boxes for the toys and they are all complete. The figures being mint and complete should be worth something. Maybe I'll just pass them onto someone to sell after I'm gone.

And I am taking very good care of them. These figures and toys have been with me since I got most of them in 78 and 79. I dug out the figures and it's amazing to me that they are in as good of shape as they are. Only the original Luke, Leia and C-3PO show any kind of wear to them. All of the others look like they just came out of the package.

I'm just glad that I finally have all 96 figures. Thanks to eBay.

Yep. That’s right. I now have all 96 Kenner action figures! Yeah! Thanks to my father who sent me a nice BIG check, I was able to swoop on all of the final ones at once. I also grabbed my fourth 24 figures carrying case so that I could store the last 24 that I didn’t have a case for. This is quite an impressive bunch of figures. I’m so gald that all of them are complete. I don’t have to hunt down weapons or anything else for them. I was also really impressed with their condition. They all look brand new except Barada. He’s got a few spots on his hands that are missing paint, but it’s nothing that I can’t live with. Hell, some of my first figures from the original 12 have spots where there is paint missing. That just makes them all the more charming to me. They’ve been with me since 1978. Well, after almost 20 years it’s nice to finally have the whole collection.

Good Lord. WTF... (Holiday Special)
Time
Ahhhh yes. Drag Queen Mark!

Seriously, though. The auto accident aside, did they really have to use that much eye liner and mascara? Not even Carrie Fisher is wearing that much eye liner on the Holiday Special.

It looks like I'm one of the few Holiday Special defenders out there.

Not really Galahad. I defend it, I just happen to think it's really, really bad. And that's what I like about it.

And speaking of the Holiday Special, I just got a great book on vintage Star Wars figures and in the book it shows the paper insert from the mail in Boba Fett figure. On the flyer it states that the character was first introduced on the 1978 Wookie Hoiliday Special or something like that. The print is rather small and hard to make out. I did find it interesting that Kenner mentioned the show even though they got the name wrong.

Wanted: Need A Little Help Here - Kenner Star Wars 1500 piece puzzle 'Corridor of Lights'
Time

If anyone sees the Kenner Star Wars 1500 piece puzzle ‘Corridor of Lights’ please let me know. It is the last one that I need to complete my Kenner Star Wars puzzle set. This is the puzzle of the Stormtrooper in the detention block corridor. I recently missed one on eBay and it went for a mere $3.99. I know that these aren’t the highest rated collectables but I’ve been trying for years to complete the set. Thanks to Cloud City and another on line store I managed to pick up four of the puzzles that I didn’t have. So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Discussion: I Finally Got One! vintage Millennium Falcon
Time
It arrived!!!!! My Falcon is here!!!!!! This is a fucking cool ass toy!!! I love this thing. Took me an hour to meticulously apply the decals (some of which weren't sticky anymore so I had to use glue) and put it together. Once I got it together and the glued decals had dried, the thing was beautiful! I love this ship. Oh the fun I could have had had I had this as a kid. My Vader Tie Fighter arrived earlier this week and it is just as cool. However, since my cousin had one of these, I wasn't as excited about it as much as the Falcon. Awesome, awesome toy. Sorry to gush, but I can't get over this thing.

What? How could he not know who the Princess was all of a sudden? Could he not see the hologram that well? Were his restraining bolts too tight? This freaked me out.

Yeah, that has always struck me as a little strange.

Best Bootleg DVDs
Time
I have the TR47 set and for me is the best. Since I haven't seen the anamorphic set, I can't judge that one. I also have the 5 Star set and it was my first set of Star Wars DVDs. I think the 5 Star set if pretty cool if you like the 97 Special Editions. At the time that I got the 5 Star set, they were the only things that I could find. I went the sneaky rought and actually found the a web site thus bypassing the whole ebay mess.

Also, I don't have a wide screen TV or surround sound at home. I do have a stereo TV that is 36" I'm probably not the right person to even answer this.

Plot Point Clarification---Please (re ESB)
Time
Thanks for the help everyone. However, since I don't rely on EU stuff for my answers, there has to be some sort of indication in the movies how suddenly Vader knows who Luke is.

I've heard that Lucas want to film (for the Archival Editions) a scene for Episode IV where Vader and the Emperor are talking after the destructin of the Death Star and Luke is mentioned or at least hinted about. If that were done, it could go a long way to fixing that little plot hole. It just seems strange (leaving all of the EU books, and comics out of the equation) that suddenly out of nowhere, for Vader to know who Luke is and is now obsessed with finding him. Also, in Empire, Vader knows that Obi-Won was helping Luke. I know that it's a minor plot point, but it has always bugged me.

Ok, I’m sure that this is going to be some conjecture, but there has always been something that has bugged me.

In the opening script crawl for Empire, it states that Vader is obsessed with finding young Skywalker. Why? What happened between episodes IV and V that suddenly Vader is obsessed with finding Luke? This has never really been explained. The only comment that Vader had about Luke in IV is ‘the Force is strong in this one.’ How does Vader even know who Luke is? Of course we can assume that Vader found out through the Force, but even that seems a little sketchy.

So if anyone has an explanation for this plot hole, I’m interested in hearing it. Also, I should state that I don’t read EU stuff and even when I have it has no bearing on the movies. For me, the movies are the only things that I feel are relevant. So, therefore the answer to this must be in the movies somewhere and I’m just not getting it. And you can’t use the Vader and Emperor scene either. Vader mentions the name Skywalker long before that.

Let ST drop for awhile

Klingon, that seems to be the consensus. Trek is pretty much dead. I think Paramount should either give it a rest or just let it die. It's been overkill.

I liked Nemisis, but it just didn't do it for me. There is a good movie there somewhere. I think that they edited the film down too much. In retrospeck, since audiences sat through 3 hour movies like LOTR and 2 1/2 hours for Harry Potter, I think that Paramount underestimated what the audience would accept in terms of length.

Hell, if people could sit through that long boring first Trek film and this didn't kill the franchise, then a 3 hour Nemisis sure wasn't going to kill it.
