Spence's PT Edits Round 3 (V2 of AOTC Released)
Time

An updated crawl would be very appreciated to properly introduce the state of the galaxy, what the Separatists are after exactly, what is this “army” the Senate is debating, why is Padmé being targeted, Dooku’s role, yada yada yada. Movie does an extremely poor job at that.

Also IMHO 3pO not being here and then appearing in Clone Wars is not a problem at all. It’s just a manufactured protocol droid we see every corner, it could have come from literally any place in the galaxy.

Just…

  • Removed the Jango/Kenobi space battle. I love the sonic bomb things as much as the next guy, but we really don’t need another action scene here given the way I’ve recut things.

oh no! needed or not, that is one of the coolest things in star wars ever! trim it down if you must, but please please leave it! even makes the slave I bombing in the mandalorian so much more nostalgic and impactful!

Also, will you be using the updated sound effect for Jango’s blaster?

sounds a millions times more badass!

  • Remove the scene with Yoda and the Younglings

I would argue against that. I know that the younglings scene is very… divisive and just not very good, but nowadays it’s just so part of the main lore (mandalorian, kenobi, clone wars) that not having this here makes them showing up later on very confusing and out of nowhere. Also, it’s the only time in the entire trilogy we see Yoda more relaxed and even cracking a couple of jokes, which IMO makes him more in line with what we see in the original trilogy.

Anyway, can’t wait to watch this!

Sounds awesome! After so many years I’m still looking for my definitive version of AotC. I like Hal’s and Caleb Gamman’s works the best, but… there’s still something that just doesn’t click for me, I don’t know…

Loved the 3PO removal/repainting btw! And the Obi/Ani scene from the Kenobi show was actually a pretty nice touch, will you be using the deepfake version that deages him though?

Very very interested!

Nice, Acbagel! I’m very happy that you liked the suggestion of the anthology side stories in the project! Other than the Dr Pershing/Coruscant bit, sooner or later there’s definitely going to be more nice content that just doesn’t fit well in the edited Books format.

Seeing the Dr Pershing’s storyline getting cut is the most heartbreaking to me. I thought that episode was so damn good, very mature star wars in the likes of Andor, showing the everyday people adapting to the current new regime.

And, most importantly, it showed us how Coruscant was working post RotJ, and what exactly was this New Republic deal, something that not even the sequel trilogy had. So IMHO it’s very very important not only to this series but to Star Wars as a whole.

Well considering these scenes are completely irrelevant to the show and it’s only point I’d to tell the audience that the NR is a bumbling organisation that doesn’t know what it’s doing and is about characters that at most are bit players before this, it should absolutely be cut.

I’d disagree you with, friend. Yup, they did exaggerate on the New Republic’s officers stupidness and naiveness (like that mon calamari technician casually and proudly lobotomizing him at the end, that was… something), but that was like 5% of the content. Besides, some slight trims and cuts could easily solve or at least greatly improve upon this matter.

But I do understand that it gets in the way of a more straight to the point narrative. So why not make a “special”, like a half an hour episode out of this? Having a “The Way of Mandalore Side Tales” folder or something? Kinda like EddieDean made with his Clone Wars awesome project. This way it wouldn’t get in the way of the main storyline and those who liked it wouldn’t miss this bit of the story. And it would even help with future decent content that doesn’t fit well in the movie format. I know that we could just go and watch the episode, but… well, with some trims and edits, I’m 100% positive you’d make this side-story flow even better!

I agree that the rest can definitely go though, specially that dumb defective droids side-quest. Sadly even the baby raptors went absolutely nowhere at the end huh, either they left the poor animals to die in the cave or just ate them, who knows. Talk about a disconnected season…

So I finally sat down to watch the remaining of Book 1. I specially love how the action scenes flow so much better. Mando was such a badass by the end of it. The fight with the droids at the prison was so damn cool!

Those are my only nitpicks:

1 - I really liked having the prison episode here, but maybe trim down even a little bit more the secondary characters? Maybe the chit chat at their introduction, or they walking the corridors? idk, felt like we spend too much time with such expendable characters.

2 - 1:42:28 that cut was VERY abrupt. Maybe a classic wipe transition would help a lot?
However, IMHO, how about moving that scene to just after mando leaves arvala-7? 'Cause we haven’t been with Kuiil for pretty much an hour, so it’s really weird and confusing when he just randomly pops in for a 40 second scene that doesn’t even pay off (in this Book 1, of course) after that.

3 - Din giving Grogu the little ball thing was perfect for the closing moment, however… just the next scene and it’s back at the top of the lever, which kinda completely ruins the moment lmao.

Anyways, onward to watching Book 2, and anxious to getting Book 3! As always, outstanding work! Wish I could be that good of an editor…

Star Wars Saga Fan Edit: Prequels Simple Edition & Original Trilogy Prequel Edition
Time

Sounds great, best of luck!

I’m still on the wait for my definitive version of Ep I and II (Ep III Rebalanced does it for me), so count me anxious to see what you’re gonna cook out of these two.

Have you watched Caleb Gamman’s Ep II (AoTC Fixed)? IMHO it’s the best one yet, just suffers from the horribly low-quality deleted scenes, and IIRC could edit some 3pO CG slapstick childish humor out. But pretty sure that’s easily doable these days.

Oh, but…
“The fish attack is still there, but trimmed.”
PLEASE don’t. I’m more than fine with showing the underwater city and a bit of the gungans, but the “let’s go through the planet core” is some of most nonsensical thing we’ve ever had in science fiction, and adds nothing to the plot whatsoever. But hey, your edit, your calls, of course.

Mando EP4: Return to Mandalore 4K [RELEASED]
Time

If this whole “New Republic buried in bureaucracy and being eaten from the inside without even noticing it” ends up directly leading to the First Order, then this whole Coruscant plot is gonna be harsh to edit out of any edits.

Anyways, I really don’t like the way they are portraying the New Republic as stereotypical incompetent clueless morons, but oh well, ever since TFA, can’t say that’s surprising.

I’m in the middle of Book 1 (just about to start the prison episode), and I have to say you truly did an outstanding job, man. I really love smudger9’s work, but IMHO he has to cut a little bit too much in order to fit the whole thing in a single-shot narrative.

I specially love how you managed to make the action flow better, taking out the childish out of place humor and, of course, Mando leaving Grogu, then going to the prison job, and then returning was a stroke of genius, it just works so well!

Some minor nitpicks:

  1. 39:05 ; Mando says “I THINK it’s a child”. Oh, you think, dude? Could this be changed to a less dumb “it’s a child” or something?

  2. 42:24 ; There remains a weird jawa chant (“egg! egg!”) from the removed bit.

Also, I’m kinda split on the new color grading, half of the time it works really well, but the other half it makes everything a little too artificially warm, bright and redish. But oh well, guess this is up to personal taste. I do however will say that:

  1. The opening cantina scene looks WAAAAY too bright, the color skin of the bearded guy looks so red it’s almost he became a different species.

  2. The black scenes/details are a little low quality video-wise? Very blurred, like we lost some details.I don’t know how to explain, I’m really not into video editing jargons, but maybe it was the black crushing in the processing?

Anyways, will finish watching ep1 today, can’t wait for the next one!! Thanks for this gem!!

Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released)
Time

Since you’re making a new version, is it possible to edit out Obi-Wan hearing Sidious explicitly calling Anakin “Darth Vader”, from that holocram archive scene? Maybe just leave them mute? I think the imagery of Anakin bowing to Sidious is more than enough for Obi to figure out what happened. That way that absolutely dumb plothole (from the Obi-Wan newest series) of Obi not knowing that Anakin was Vader could… well, be made a little less nonsensical, I guess.

Mando EP3: A New Path (A Book of Boba Fett Edit) [RELEASED]
Time

This week’s content was amazing IMO, so awesome seeing Coruscant post-RotJ. And not only “seeing it”, but the story / character development was actually pretty damn good as well! This is just how I love Star Wars!

Maybe it could be trimmed a little and put in between Grogu with Luke and Grogu being back with Mando? That way we wouldn’t lose this preciosity of some much needed New Republic antics, and it would even help with that weird timeframe S2/TBoBB/S3.

But - and it’s a big BUT - we’ll have to wait and see how it ends up being relevant to the overall plot of the season, I guess? Maybe it’s gonna come back big time, maybe it was a one-off thing and we’ll never even see these characters again, who knows…

The Force Awakens: Starlight (V1.1 Released!)
Time

So I finally sat down to watch it and…
buddy, you NAILED IT. Made the movie so much more enjoyable. Kudos to you, really! This is 100% my definitive version of TFA to have on my collection from now on.
Out of all things, I was vastly impressed on how much better the climax / final act got to be with the rearranging. Rey’s sith eyes was the cherry on the cake.

Hope you don’t mind some nitpicks, those are my notes of things I thought could be improved whilst watching it:

  1. The “from the shadows of an imperial fortress” at the opening crawl doesn’t make any sense. What fortress? There’s never been anything in that regard afaik. Also, this kinda of implies that they all came suddenly from a single place at a specific time, and there’s no way the first order hasn’t been around for at least a good while and scattered all around. I mean, they turned Ilum into a giant space weapon, right? So I feel like something on the likes of “from the shadows of imperial remnants” would be more simple and effective, and less in-universe confusing.

  2. Literally the only rough edit I noticed in the entire flick was the first time Rey interacted with Unkar Plutt. Could really tell something was amiss there.

  3. It’s been a while since I’ve watched the original, so maybe that’s on me, but I didn’t really notice much difference on Jakku’s new color grade, still looked the same to me.

  4. With this new AI voiceover around, would it be possible to change “the republic” to “the new republic” whenever it’s said during the movie? Or at least here and there, a couple times? I think they only say NEW REPUBLIC once, and that’s kinda of the name of the new regime, so it always bothered me.

  5. Any way to improve / modify the infamous “a good question. for another time” line? Still feels like a middle finger hurled at the spectator’s face that went absolutely nowhere at the end.

  6. The one big change I would suggest. The reveal of Kylo being Han/Leia’s son when these two first gather didn’t really do it for me. Hard to explain, maybe the soundtrack, the pacing, the cinematography, but to me that was blatantly not the intended moment of the reveal. If you take their conversation - “I saw him. Leia, I saw our son. He was here” - and remove the middle (leaving “I saw him. Leia, he was here”) to keep the suspense for a little longer and then reveal it to the audience when Snoke teases Kylo be calling him Solo, I feel like that would be way more impactful. Again, just a suggestion. Maybe it wouldn’t work at all, idk lmao.

  7. How does Finn know that Rey was taken specifically to Starkiller base and that they must go there to rescue her?

  8. Possible to reduce the massive THUMP sound effect from when Kylo first puts his mask down? That exaggerated sound effect made it look like he wears a helmet that weights about 2000 pounds.

  9. Kylo’s “forgive me” while visiting the falcon is SO unnecessary and it really ruined the moment to me. It was a very strong scene that needed absolutely nothing said. It actually reminded me of Vader’s infamous “no…! noooo…!!” from RotJ bluray.

  10. TOO much time between Chewie blowing up the oscilator and the x-wings noticing the new hole they could now enter to attack. Maybe split that scene up and put the first half before Rey and Finn face off against Kylo?

  11. I loved the MCUish dumb humor trimmed down. Only joke I would have tried to remove was the “that one, no! no!, no!” between Rey and Finn at the falcon. But I know that humor is extremely subjective.

Anyways, I hope you don’t take these “criticisms” the wrong way. Just trying to get us fans the most absolutely perfect version of TFA possible. But you already made a marvelous job, have no doubt!
