It would be an interesting angle if Leia’s decision was portrayed as a failure, but this is supposed to be a hopeful scene, “Leia failed the galaxy and doomed us all by choosing a career in politics” doesn’t fit a scene that is supposed to restore Rey’s spirit. To be fair neither does a premonition of death but that’s why we removed that bit.>

I really don’t see it that way. She chose the path she honestly thought it was the best for her and for everyone. Her mother’s path. And she spent some three decades fighting her good fight, I’m sure she made tremendous good for countless lives around the galaxy while being a politician.

In the end, because of circumstances completely out of her control, things got out of hand. How does that make her a failure in any way, shape or form?

Also, this is NOT being implied by the AI, this IS the canon, she DID chose to be a politician instead of a jedi. AI would be merely trying to make a better sense out of it. I think changing that would be beyond aggressive fan-fiction, and that’s quite NOT what Hal9000’s edits are all about.

I think the big issue with Leia choosing politics over being a Jedi is that it comes off as a terribly foolish decision. In the end, diplomacy failed; by the time we meet her in TFA she’s leading an underground militia, and her sole hope lies on Luke’s return to help in the fight.

Well, that’s… the whole point of the sequel trilogy though, isn’t it? All three legacy characters (Luke, Han, Leia) failed miserably after RotJ. I don’t think anyone likes the direction they took with the story, but unless we rewrite and reshoot the entire three films, what can we do…

For the Leia training flashback, Leia’s face displays some emotion so I don’t think it would fit to just say she decided to go with her political career; there should be something there but I’m not sure what. >

I honestly don’t see any problems. She knows being a jedi means a great deal to Luke, to her father’s legacy and to the galaxy overall, so it would be very natural and expected that she’d had some massive inner conflict about “abandoning” the jedi path to follow a political career.

How about: “…bring about greater change through diplomacy, like our mother once did, than the jedi path”?

I love the idea of Luke referring to their mother. Padme gets no love in the sequels! 😦

Luke: “I started to train her, but Leia was reluctant to follow the Jedi Path. She knew she could better serve the galaxy and its people through diplomacy, like our mother once did. She surrendered her saber to me and said that one day, it would be picked up again by someone who would finish her journey. A thousand generations live in you now. We’ll always be with you, but this is your fight.

How about “She FELT she could better serve the galaxy…”

As for the second half of the fifth episode (Princess on Lothal), I felt like it cut WAY too much and made things move WAY too fast. IMO Leia’s little introduction aboard the ship (0:46-2:00 of the original episode) was much needed, otherwise we just have a legacy character randomly popping out at the scenery; also, it’s important in-universe 'cause it shows the Empire is very tired of Alderaan meddling in their affairs, which makes them going after it on EP IV a little more believable. Also Kanan and Ezra talking to Leia before facing off against the stormtroopers (6:05-6:50 of the original) was also quite important, not only to keep the pace a little slower but to give some more background as to how Alderaan and the Senate can keep supporting anti-Empire stuff. And for last, the cut pep talk between Leia and Ezra (10:54-12:19 of the original) was a pretty sweet moment of character development for both of them, I don’t see why leaving it out.

As for the third episode of your season 2 edit (Pirates of the Horn), since I hadn’t watched the original episode, I admit that I was quite confused with what exactly was happening here. After seeing the original version, I really thinks v3 cut a little bit too much from the intro. Starting with Ezra and Chopper fixing the ship (1:48 of the original episode) while seeing the rest of the crew going on their mission would give us more context and a much more valid reason on why is Ezra all of a sudden kind of running away to find his own adventures.

New intro for episode 1 got a million times better, nice!

However the transition from the Ginquisitor to Ezra on the rooftops (2:25) is still a little off-putting, and I’m guessing it’s because of the audio - goes too quickly from the ominous soundtrack to the casual stormtroopers on the radio. Maybe if you’d “slowmo” the Ginquisitor’s face just for a couple seconds while the music finds its pace to go a little quieter?

Is it feasible to divide this second episode into two parts? The first half (Fighter Flight) is… quite mediocre, to say the least, but the second half (Out of Darkness) is… quite alright IMHO; so it would be nice to not have to go through fifteen minutes of boredom on rewatches.

Also, taking out the part where Zeb and Ezra DO try and fix the ship (just didn’t notice the fuel thing) made things seem… awkward in here, like they were just lazing around and blatantly lied to Hera about having fixed the ship they knew she would be taking down to the planet in a few moments; it’s like they didn’t care she’d potentially die on a defective vessel or something lmao.

Ok then- let me know the time in my edit that she’s called by name and I’ll replace it with Stass Allie’s if I can, or cut around it if not.

Why not just change the episode number so the Citadel arc happens before the Pirates one? Or the opposite, having the Pirates episode after the Citadel arc? They’re very close apart already, shouldn’t cause any narrative problem. Otherwise, it’s gonna be very weird having “Allie” mentioned or just seen here and then… never showing up again.

That one’s in my “not ever gonna touch” pile, sorry!

…But, y’know, if I ever find myself with absolutely nothing to do…

That said, see my earlier post about how to stick TCW intros and outros onto a given episode, if you must!

You’re not a fan of the way TCW portrayed Quinlan Vos? Or is it because of the cartoonish hutts lazy plot that goes on forever on the first couple seasons? If it’s the second case, maybe just the Obi-Wan/Quinlan interactions could be cut around and fit nicely into another episode?

Spence's PT Edits Round 3 (V2 of AOTC Released)

I’m playing with the idea of removing Darth Maul from every scene after Tattooine until he shows up for the duel. I think it’s kind of a neat idea to sort of forget about him for a while and then those doors open. It makes him showing up a bit more epic. All he does in the other scenes is stand behind Nute Gunray anyway.

That’s… actually very interesting, might work really well. We don’t exactly forget about him for that long though, because Qui-Gon and the council do openly discuss him and the sith, or do you plan to cut all of that as well?
