Star Wars Rebels Recut - A Fanedit TV Series

I think your movie idea here is a good one. But, it might be cool to do both. Hear me out. My thinking here is, edit it as a series to fit in with the rest of your series, but also do your movie edit. For the series, keep the full screen and same style opening and text as the rest of your series. For your movie, do the cropping, film grain, a more traditional style opening crawl. And in this crawl, recap the entire series (as best as can be done in a single crawl), so the movie can be watched as a standalone. Rebels is great and a lot of people won’t give it a chance because of the animation style and the commitment it would require to watch it all. A single standalone movie, that is more cinematic, may attract more viewers and they may be persuaded to go back and start at the beginning and watch the entire series. Just a thought.

that is the way!

One thing I think we miss a bit in this project is the “Sabine was with the Empire for some time” subplot.

I think it’s just briefly mentioned once or twice, and then… comes the first episode of the fourth season with the big “Sabine is the one that built the mandalorian killing weapon” twist, and at the least to me it was… “wait what, Sabine was with the Empire? where’s that coming from again?”.

Maybe a little bit more of this subplot could be added? I think there’s an episode that was skipped that focus specifically on this? Don’t remember if it’s any good though!

Anyway, just brainstorming!

Can anyone translate the new line? Need Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Dutch, and Russian.

It’s in the context of Luke speaking to Rey, just after telling her that Leia chose to follow their mother’s path due to fearing Vader’s hatred.

“By training you as a Jedi, Leia confronted her fears and embraced love over hatred.”

Brazilian Portuguese: “Treinando você como jedi, Leia confrontou seus medos e escolheu o amor acima do ódio.”

Spence's PT Edits Round 3 (V2 of AOTC Released)
Time

Finally watched this version of TPM and gotta say that I just LOVED what you did here.

1 - the most perfect fanedit of the pod race I’ve ever seen
2 - keeping the underwater city, just removing some gungan over the top silliness
3 - removing 3pO entirely
4 - removing the dumb blood test
5 - having the deleted scenes, specially Ani beating up Greedo, but without being Greedo (so simple but I dont think it’s been done before)
6 - removing the stupid jedi etch-a-sketch test
7 - rearranging the final battle so blowing up the droid ship is actually relevant

as of now this is my absolutely to-go version of TPM!

Some suggestions for a v2:

  • Custom crawl to properly set up the mood for adventure? Original is not only a nonsensical bore, but with a glaring error (“…sent two jedi KNIGHTS” when obi-wan is still a padawan and only made a jedi knight by the very end of the movie)

  • 18:17 remove that weird homer simpson “d’oh” from the droids?

  • 28:54 - cut was weird/abrupt here, only time it felt “fanedited” in the entire view. Maybe cutting straight from qui-gon leaving the backyard to 28:58 with qui-gon passing in front of the screen could work better?

  • 40:45-41:28 - honestly could completely cut all jar jar stuff from here and nothing would be missed

  • 58:38-58-42 - possible to remove that thing/ship/balloon/whatever from the blue sky? that unfinished low-res becomes very distracting

  • 1:04:59 cut straight to 1:05:02? Just to not show qui-gon falling on his ass like a pathetic out of breath old potato sack after exchanging like 8 blows with darth maul?

  • 1:20:25 - a weird hiss in the middle of the “there is little more…” sentence?

  • 1:22:15 - cut that unnecesary jar jar scream?

  • 1:37:47 - how about changing Ani’s line to just “r2, get us off this autopilot”. More badass and determined?

  • Not sure about this one but, maybe cutting (or at least trimming/rearranging) the yoda/obi-wan scene at the end? Always felt horrible to me that obi-wan just went to train anakin just because he promised qui-gon, not because he truly wanted and believed in him; also, the funeral scene next already tell us everything we need to know (“the council gave me permission to train you”)

  • And the one big change I would suggest, as others said, is removing Jabba from the pod racing. Him beeing there never made much sense to me, because:
1 - he’s supposed to be this big underground gangster boss with enemies at every corner, why would he just be laying lown on public amidst thousands of people like that?
2 - this CG jabba has nothing to do with practical jabba we have and love from ep VI
3 - he’s supossed to be scary and intimidating just by sheer name, by here? nah, he looks like an overgrown worn-out old slug that falls asleep by itself and has to be funnily poked around by his assistant. Why would anyone care in the slightest to be on his black list?

For the newest S3’s Zero Hour, I would honestly keep the scene with Thrawn and Bendu, for two reasons: (1) bendu’s hint at Thrawn’s defeat is beyond vague and somewhat of a poetic riddle, IMHO it doesn’t spoil anything whatsoever (or you could just rearrange it to Thrawn shooting him before he speaks about his impending doom); (2) the way it was left in, it looks like bendu was killed when shot at the storm, which is not the original intent (and we never see him again in this show, so it will make things quite confusing if/when he eventually returns to the franchise).

Or maybe you could have two versions of the episode, “Bendu lives” and “Bendu dies”?

Otherwise, great finale, can’t wait for v4 of the final season!

From the new “The Darksaber of Mandalore” on S3.

31:25 - cut was weird, the hologram was there for less than a millisecond, so it kinda feels like Sabine’s mom just… entered the room, walked around, turned and left. I had to go back like three times to make sure there was a hologram closing. I don’t see a problem with us seeing that she is talking to Saxon, since we’ve just been told Saxon called her anyway, no? Maybe - if the intention is to leave the contents of their conversation more of a surprise till the next scene - at least leave the hologram opening or closing, or even them greeting each other, to flow a little better?

Other than that, it felt fantastic. Loved the new direction with the Sabine/Mandalorian arc! Guess having the Ahsoka series helps a lot on the long term.

This is a pick your poison scenario. We all know this movie (well, the sequel trilogy) is an absolute mess in terms of coherent narrative, character motivations and lore, so there’s only so much one can fix; no matter how we play with it, it’s always gonna be fundamentally broken at its core (unless we redo the entire movie, line by line, shot by shot).

So they have the chance to explore a new era, ages before everything we’ve seen in this universe! And they go with… EVERY SINGLE TROPE, VISUAL AND PLOT POINT we’ve already seen a MILLION times!! Looks like a random clone wars episode.

I’ll be honest, it looks and feels horrendous and left me with a barf taste in my mouth.

The Dr Pershing thing, a couple years ago hadn’t it been decided it would work better as a separate side-story in-between the books, like Book 5.5 or 6.5? That way we wouldn’t miss (IMHO) the best thing season 3 gave us AND we wouldn’t have it being shoved in the way of other character’s stories (since, sadly, it truly WAS an absolute side quest after all, which tbh is no detriment, 'cause it was still way better than the “main plot” of the entire third season, if there even was a main plot there).
