I believe Handman once linked to that video in the “last movie seen” thread. A debate with Frink on whether or not it counted as a movie soon ensued.

That did happen. It ended with me taking a short break from the forum, it was so ridiculous.

Yeah… I like Frink, I really do, but honestly he can be exhausting and he probably needed this break for himself even if he didn’t realize it. There’s been a few times I should have taken a break but didn’t, it happens. Here’s hoping he comes back still himself, but perhaps a bit more mellow and less combative.

I wouldn’t normally say any of that, but since this isn’t a thread I’m sure nobody can read it.

Well for blues you should start with stevie ray vaughan. He’s very accessible while still being authentic but having just enough sense of pop to be easy to listen to. And he was one of the best guitarists to ever walk the face of the earth, and by all accounts super nice in person too. He’s got slow, painful blues as well as fast shuffles. Also has a little Rock influence. Pro tip: once you’re tired of his far too brief studio catalog look for life performances. Look for performances released posthumously. (There was only one actual live album put out while he was alive. Called Live Alive. It’s got a few good moments and starts on a high note but it’s a real mixed bag. It’s a compilation of several concerts but only one of them was recorded well. The common buzz was that the album sucked due to how messed up he was on drugs he was during the performance but further research points to it being more because they were recorded so poorly that most of the parts had to be overdubbed due to poor sound quality and with as spontaneous and fresh as his live performances always were, with large improvisational sections, trying to overdub specific live performances was a doomed process bound to sound lifeless. But all the performances from his 1985 appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival are great, but you don’t need the album for that as that performance was later released on its own at a later date. And there have been many posthumous live albums released from him and they are all fabulous, he was so good live the fact that he never made an actual good live album in his lifetime is a strange anomaly. But I REALLY recommend the live video “Live at the El Mocambo”. But something after he got a keyboard player would also be worth exploring as that provided a whole new layer that is worth hearing. But YouTube videos might be enough for you. If you want more specific performances I’d be happy to get you some.)

I also recommend Buddy Guy, Albert King, and Robert Cray as excellent blues artists.

If you want specific songs let me know.

Can’t help you with jazz.

And that’s my Star Trek.

Why does it have to be Star Trek? It could be some other series/franchise entirely, and let Star Trek be what it is.

Who said it has to be? I certainly didn’t.

If that wasn’t what you were saying then you would be pitching this as a new idea instead of saying you wish this was how star trek was…

Ms. Tran isn’t Chinese. Perhaps you could let this tangent rest.

Uh…yeah it was already rested. It was one post. And the only reason I even added to it was because you asked me to explain. And the part you quoted wasn’t part of the addition, the addition was purely an explanation of intent. I’m confused. If you don’t want people to explain what they meant then don’t ask them too. Either way I meant no disrespect to her, and for some reason I thought she was Chinese, and the only thing I was making fun of was the idea that she was the spokesperson for Asians. But again, you’re the one that asked me to explain, and I did, without even making a new post, and am only now making this post because apparently you wanting me to explain was rhetorical. Fun times.

Amd yes it was a stupid joke, but like I said you’re the one that asked me to explain, it wasn’t a “tangent”.

Edit again:didn’t see Jay’s post until after I posted this. Sorry.

To be even clearer I agree with the message of the OP. The fact that the staff behind these movies are being harassed is disgusting. And the whole “the ST is just made by SJWs” narrative is stupid.

He also doesn’t say he doesn’t remember R2, he says he doesn’t remember owning him. Actually be says he doesn’t remember owning ANY droid, which is just ludicrous, so with all the other white lies concerning his father and such I can easily in my head cannon believe he doesn’t feel like talking about it being Lukes father’s old droid.

If these guys

were changed from an extraterrestrial species into a human subspecies, it would change essentially nothing about the episode. Nothing about the series in general would change.

Really? Because I would wonder “how the fuck did that happen” since supposedly humans from earth hadn’t been there before? If humans have already been through the galaxy and altered the gene pool that actually kinda changes the premise of the entire series. If it were in TNG I’d buy it since much more time and space exploration had past but not in TOS.

It’s not a scenario which would’ve worked in the timeline as-is. Human colonization of space would’ve had to been going on a lot longer than a couple hundred years.

Which changes the premise of the entire original series…

I wonder if she would be offended by my brother and his wife giving their adopted Chinese daughter our last name and an American first name. (I am not sure if they knew her original Chinese name or not)

Come on warb. She’s not a spokesperson for every Asian person you know. She’s talking about her own life and experiences.

Are you sure? I was hoping she could give me her recipe for chow mein noodles. Mine are getting pretty good but they’re missing something small that I can’t put my finger on to make them restaraunt quality

Possessed - explain your statement.

I was having fun with the idea of KMT being the spokespeople for asians/Asian Americans. Chow mein is one of my personal favorite dishes. That was all, it was not meant to mock her or Asian stereotypes or anything like that. If you think it reads that way I wouldn’t have any bad feelings if you deleted it.
