Well, nevermind. Apparently when I ran it through Handbrake, it converted the audio to Prologic II. The source audio sounds fine.

I don’t see why that would make it sound weird though, almost any stereo source for a movie you’ll find, and any official source for a star wars movie that is 2.0, is going to be matrix surround compatible. I mean that would mean the 93 laserdisc mix would have sounded weird if played in stereo.

Given that it into happens at those moments is a pretty strong indicator that it isn’t related to the pro logic encoding… I’ve downmixed a ton of 5.1 sources to pl2 2.0 using handbrake and they all sound fine in stereo.

However I have had downmixed done with avidemux have that issue. Maybe you’re using an outdated version of handbrake that has a different script for it?

Could the image in question be understood by description? I’m just curious what it was, not sure if I want to see it based on the reactions of others.

Think of Trump and Kim Jung-un.

Now think of the most despicable and disgusting act they could ever do.

That was the picture.

Well, third most disgusting if you want to be specific.

Nah man the 2011 colors are pretty much shit.

Yeah I’ve never actually seen anybody complain about them outside of this forum besides maybe fanedit.org. I personally don’t like despecialized colors (everything else about it is amazing), and yes 2.7 is better but I’m not going to say it’s shit. The 2011 colors bother me in a few places, but I would say less than 5 places.

I mean you’re wrong but that’s okay.

You’re right. I was wrong. I’m not really sure what was wrong with me that I thought that for so long but alas. I still don’t fully love the despecialized colors though and I don’t hate the 2011 colors so much to want a total retime, but I’ve found the settings JawsTDS came up with to apply to the whole film in one whack to be favorite solution. Gets rid of the red skin tones and overall darkness of the 2011 but without any yellow or green shift or shot to shot inconsistency. It’s definitely not accurate to the original colors but it at least makes the modern take on the colors much more visually appealing than what we got. It’s kinda what the 2011 grade was probably going for but failed at.

Possessed Star Wars Trilogy custom edition (* part-finished project *)
Time

I have decided to redo these mostly from scratch (mostly because I will probably just reuse the audio tracks and just try to sync the new video to them) using the settings described by JawsTDS in the thread below for video, but still using telecine7’s redone lightsabers and blasters. This is not a shot by shot regrade, it is not authentic to any source, it’s just a blanket correction that makes the existing timing much more natural looking and less dark, and no more magenta skin.

originaltrilogy.com/topic/Original-Trilogy-Blu-rays-SPC-Single-Pass-Corrections/id/54847

I don’t actually have Sony Vegas, I just used the values he gave and fed them into other programs, mostly avisynth, but it looks very similar. I’ll post some screenshots of anh once it’s done rendering. I never shared this anyway so nows a good time to do this so I only have to share it once. So just to recap, you’ll get:

2011 version but with JawsTDS improved color and gamma settings, as well as telecine7’s re rotoscoped lightsabers and blasters.

1997 sound mix sourced from dts converted to dolby surround (this way you can get most of the fidelity of the dts track but with the increased compatibility of an ac3 track, due to each channel getting a much higher bitrate, but still surround. Actually I used a PL2 matrix so it should actually upmix even more accurately than dolby surround from the 90s. Plus this should allow for easier use since the one track will sound good on any setup whether it’s stereo or surround)
Entire mos eisley sequence reverted to it’s 1977 state, so no jabba and no greedo shooting. Can’t remember if I used the 77 mix or the 93 mix for that.

Thanks for the assist. For the record I’m not saying those threads don’t deserve to exist, just that they serve no purpose beyond silliness like this one.

Although creating a “spoiler” thread for episode ix before episode viii is released is unnecessary. I’ve read the whole thread, and while it was interesting there wasn’t any spoilers because why would there be lol. Maybe just change the title to the nonspoiler thread.

Raiders was second in my viewing order. Yes it is a great movie, but strangely this movie does not age very well for me. Everytime i watch it, i see new cracks in its patina.

What?! What sort of cracks? Maybe I’m the one looking at the movie through nostalgia goggles, but I’ve never seen Raiders as anything less than a timeless, essentially flawless film.

Word!

That was a paragraph you dingbat.

Yes and you should probably stop bringing it up. I trust that you learned your lesson but there’s no need to keep dragging it up.

But I could care less about anything as long as the original “cut” is there and there’s no cgi. As long as there’s no added scenes, changed dialogue, and nothing cgid over I’ll be happy. “Should” they recomp the elements? Probably not. But if they did it would it actually bother me enough to want to recreate the original flaws? No. They shouldn’t recomp it, but if it’s already done I don’t see something like that being worth the trouble to actually undo.
